"Bloody vampire," Wesley was saying at the top of his lungs. "What the hell were you thinking? Have you totally lost your mind?" Spike stopped in the middle of the hallway and blinked at the sight of Wes' arse covered with toothpaste. Then he snickered. He couldn't help it. "Oh, right," Wes said sourly. "Laugh it up." Spike chortled and leaned against the wall as Wesley started to scrub at his bum with a dampened flannel. Wes shot him a look of complete disgust and folded the cloth in his hand to create a fresh surface. "What the bloody hell is this all about?" "April first," Spike managed to say between snickers. The toothpaste was an odd shade of blue and it seemed to have gotten, well... everywhere. "Of course. Because that date alone is good enough reason to cover the toilet seat with toothpaste." Spike gave him a look of momentary horror. "April Fool's Day," he said. Wes gave him a very different look in return. "Yes, I'm aware. You couldn't just short-sheet the bed or put salt in the sugar bowl?" "I sleep in the bed, too," Spike told him, reasonably enough. "Plus that's an affront to a decent cuppa tea." "And yet somehow, you think this is an acceptable substitute." Wesley sighed and tossed the flannel into the sink. "Well, the least you could do is help wash this off of me." Spike raised his eyebrows as Wesley started the hot water running in the shower. He hadn't thought of this unexpected benefit to his little prank, and he should have. He must be slipping. Getting old. Getting... nah. He stepped into the tub behind Wes, pulling the curtain closed behind him. They discovered that, even though vampires didn't need to brush their teeth, a vampire's tongue did a serviceable job at removing toothpaste from human skin.
After their shower, Spike went down to start the kettle while Wesley toweled himself off. It wasn't until the second shriek of the morning split the air that Spike remembered that he'd also switched the antibiotic cream for Wesley's toothpaste, having used up all of the latter on the toilet seat.
