Bischwind

We journeyed to the edge of the Poconos, to a little town called Bear Creek and one of the most elegant B&B’s we have ever seen.  Bischwind was built in the 1890’s by a lumber and ice baron. It was rescued from neglect in 1957 by the current proprietor’s family and beautifully restored.  We stayed in the Theodore Roosevelt Suite (yes, he stayed there, along with President Taft, and Sikorsky of helicopter fame).  This was the largest suite we have ever stayed in and is nicely appointed with overstuffed leather chairs and an English library full of medical books. The owner’s father was a dentist. The bed is a twin of the one in the Lincoln Room at the White House. There are many walking trails, a huge porch overlooking the back lawn, and a pool.  The host, Billi, grew up there and has lots of great stories. She is also a terrific cook and makes sure you do not leave the table without one of her cheesecakes or chocolate cakes ... for breakfast no less. We WILL return here.

View from the rear of the estate.

Pool and porch.

Bedroom and dining room.

Sitting room of the Roosevelt Suite.

We discovered this huge ballroom right under our suite. We kicked off our shoes and practiced our ballroom dance routines for an hour.

This waterfall is right next to the property and very short walk.

The lake is private property, part of the Bear Creek Association.

The walking trails are not at all rugged, just secluded and safe. One takes you on a three-mile journey around the lake.
