Arizona

Our August 2005 trip to Arizona (104 degrees in Phoenix. What were we thinking?) took us to Tempe, Scottsdale, Sedona and the Grand Canyon.  For pictures of the B&B in Sedona, click here.  We took a harrowing jeep ride around the red rocks (Carmella had her eyes closed for a large portion of the trip. So did I.).

The Grand Canyon was predictably awesome.  We did not (NOT, I tell you) walk to the bottom of the canyon.  We did not even get below the rim.  We are built for leisure.

I’ll keep the narration to a minimum.  The pictures tell the story.

Fairly typical arid Arizona scenery, about 50 miles north of Phoenix on the way to Sedona.

Below are the famous red rocks of Sedona.  When not gawking at the rocks, we strolled the shops and had some very good meals.

Oak Creek Canyon stretches out for miles in between Sedona and the Grand Canyon. I stitched this panorama together from four pictures taken at a rest stop.

For a really well written history of the Grand Canyon’s geology, check out this site.
