Kennebunkport and Gloucester

Kennebunkport, ME

Gloucester, MA

Kennebunkport is a quiet little village on the coast of Maine. At least it’s quiet when George W. Bush isn’t in town. His dad (#41) and mom summer at Walker’s Point.

We stayed at the Cape Arundel Inn, just down the road from Walker’s Point.  We had a charming room with a view of the ocean and the Bush estate..  The dining room features gourmet stuff, so we just HAD to eat there one night.

So here it is... Walker’s Point. We watched every morning as George Bush took his cigarette boat out for a day of striper fishing. In the late afternoon , while sipping martinis on the porch, we watched him zoom in, chased by a secret service boat. We just missed seeing Barbara drive into town past our B&B.

The Rachel Carson wildlife preserve is just outside Kennebunkport. It’s a great walk.

Kennebunk Book Port. OK.  I get it.

Mystery House, just down the road from the Inn.

Lobster traps at Cape Porpoise.  This is one of the last real fishing villages in Maine.

We took a side trip to Cape Porpoise, ME.  This is at low tide.  You could have walked all the way to the lighthouse.  We came back later that evening and all this was quite under water.

No, we did not eat here.

Sounds like a Winston Churchill line.

On the way to Maine, we took a side trip to Gloucester, Mass, the site of the book and film “The Perfect Storm.”
