Key Largo

So in February 2006 when the temperature in Cherry Hill was dipping into the 20’s Carmella says “Florida. Now.”  So we booked a hasty trip to Key Largo at a small resort called Kona Kai.  What a great idea.  This is a very mellow place.  Key Largo is the “Dive” capital of the world... that doesn’t mean sleazy bars, but snorkling and scuba. We did neither, preferring instead to lay about on the beach and take a wacky side trip to South Beach. Anyway, we got warm and relaxed and saw four perfect sunsets. Here are the pix:

Ballyhoos right across the street: great grub

Caribbean Club is where the film “Key Largo” was filmed.  It is now a dive bar.

Kona Kai’s owner raises orchids.

We took a side trip to South Beach to see the Art Deco buildings and people watch.

We went back in 2007 and spent a wonderful Sunday afternoon listening to Kim Bankston, who also sings with the Platters.
