What made you
realize you were a Fangirl?
I think I
realized I was a Fangirl when I went to the Mystery Science
Theater 3000 Expo-Fest-A-Rama in 1994.
Just the year
before, I had attended a huge Doctor Who convention in
Chicago, and while it was fun, I still felt like an outsider.
But the next year, at a hotel outside Minneapolis, I found my
people. MSTies, hundreds and hundreds of them. We watched old
episodes together in packed conference rooms, we waited for
hours to get autographs from the cast and writers, and we had
the joy of seeing “This Island Earth” performed live at a
downtown theater. I’ve always struggled with shyness but that
weekend, conversation with strangers was easy because we already
had an established common interest (and believe me, once you get
a MSTie talking about MST, they won’t stop). During the very
surreal Masquerade Ball on Saturday night, I stood there in my
Creepy Girl costume chatting with Kevin Murphy while Mike Nelson
and Jim Mallon were within arm’s reach, Frank Conniff was just a
few feet away, and Trace Beaulieu and Paul Chaplin were in my
sight lines. That was when I knew I was a Fangirl.

If you
could be any character in any movie or TV show ever made, who
would it be and why?
Aeryn Sun of Farscape. When viewers first met Aeryn, she was a
soldier, living her life completely by the Peacekeeper rulebook.
But when she was discharged from the Peacekeepers, Aeryn found
herself adrift and confused. But not alone. Her compassion for
her crewmates on Moya, as well as her love for astronaut John
Crichton, made Aeryn one of the most complex and compelling
female characters ever on a sci-fi television show. I would love
to have her resourcefulness, her skill with a Pulse pistol and a
PK Prowler, her compulsion to keep herself and others calm in
stressful situations, and her ability to look that good in tight
black leather. Plus, all the making-out with Ben Browder would
be a nice bonus.
