Barbizon Cottage, France
This is a typical residence alongside the cobblestone main street of this small town that owes its claim to fame as the painting laboratory of breakaway painters of the mid nineteenth century. Sisley and many others found refuge in this sleepy village bordering on the Fontainebleau Forest near Paris where they could work out their new ideas. This groups efforts are known as the Barbizon School; a few years later they astounded the art world with a new look that was called impressionism.
