China, Yangtze Half Full
By 2006 the 3 Gorges Dam had raised the level of water above the dam only one-half of the total increase anticipated for when the dam is completely finiished. Places like this coal mining facility will then be submerged. The Three Gorges area is usually foggy, cold and raining, so vegetation is green and plentiful, even growing out of small crevases in the rocks and cliffs. Coal will no longer be carried to plants downstream in boats powered by the wind.
