Chinatown, San Francisco

This is a 1997 painting done in acrylic using mostly palette knife application. The scene is Grant Street, the heart of the district. I used to walk through this area about 8:00 a.m. when the duck cages with their loud cargos were stacked up on the sidewalk outside the markets and delicatessens. I would pass by them again in the evening, but the ducks were then hanging on hooks, dripping fat and ready to become a gourmet dinner main course.
