Patterns
This five-tiered pagoda, the tallest in Kyoto, is part of the Toji-Temple complex that was originally built in 794, destroyed by fire in 1486 and rebuilt in1603. As I walked through the extensive temple gardens, the beginning, large raindrops of a new shower began to fall leaving a pattern of various sized circles on the calm pond waters, and, when I started to work on this painting, I realized that the scene contained several sets of patterns including, rocks, flowering bushes and the tiers on the pagoda themselves.
