Port Costa, California
Located on the mouth of the Sacramento River, Port Costa was an important supply point for the gold seekers of 1849. There remains only a small cluster of buildings of which the warehouse, hotel and Bull Valley Restaurant are a part. This plein air oil painting from 2000 required five trips and 20 hours on site plus another 20 hours of studio time to complete. I will never forget all the people who came over to talk to me while I was there.
