Just outside the town is a bucolic, agricultural countryside. Point Reyes Station is the primary destination for visitors to the National Seashore and Pt, Reyes National Park. In the summertime the coastal fog penetrates a few miles in the evening and then retreats the following morning. The coast mountain range is heavily forested and the seashore is penetrated with many inlets. The sloughs are popular stopping places for migrating birds and home for many. The park abounds with wildlife and is Mecca for hikers and ornithologists.
