An excursion over Sonora Pass, north of Yosemite in California, produced scenes for four plein air paintings. This first one is a closeup of the intruded granite rock that is the basis for the Sierra Nevada mountain range. At the 11,000 foot height level the trees struggle for existence and some manage to survive.
