GTD with Outlook     |     home
Here's the third way to view your Projects.  This method gives you an expanded look at any Project ideas, notes or outlines that you have entered in the Notes section of the Project form. (Remember:  All Project views that I suggest rely on this location for the "outcome", so I recommend that you get in the habit of putting this kind of info in the Notes section of the form).  As I think you'll see below, this is a very powerful view to use during your Weekly Review.

Step 1 ... Select Preview Pane for Your View
Navigate to your Projects folder, and display the Project list view that you created from Tip #2.  From the menu, select (View, Preview Pane); or in the alternative...

Click the Preview Pane button on the Toolbar.

Step 2 ... View Your Projects with Notes and Outlines in the Preview Pane
Outlook will display your Project notes, ideas and outlines in the window below your Project list.  When you highlight a Project in the list, the notes for that Project will show up in the pane below.  In the example at the right, you can see that for my Project of producing this series of tips, I've jotted some possible tip ideas in the Notes section of my Project form.  You can also see how these ideas are reproduced in the Preview Pane.  (Note that you do not have to open the Project form to achieve this; I've just opened it here to help with the illustration.)

Here you can visualize the power of this view for your weekly review.  As you work your way down the Project list, your notes for each Project pop right up to kick-start your thinking.  There's no need to pull up another document or file to refresh you memory.  More than likely, after glancing through the Preview Pane, you are ready to "process" this Project for the week.

A Note About the Preview Pane
Note that you can "Copy" text from the Preview Pane, but you cannot edit any text in it.  Highlight some text, Right-Click it, and you will have just the "Copy" command available in the drop-down menu.
