Good Day
by Leloi

Kagome sat up on hilltop overlooking the village.  It was a good day, not too warm and not too cool.  She stared thoughtfully at the farmers below her, tending their fields.  Absently she picked up the brush in her lap and began to untangle her hair.  The slight breeze caught it and played with it.

Shippou wandered over to her and watched with interest.  When she was done he took the bow out of his own hair and climbed into her lap.  She delicately worked out all the tangles in his shoulder length hair and fluffy tail.  He sat still with his nose up and his eyes closed, smiling at the sky.

Inu Yasha noticed the attention being paid to the fox boy.  He sat down very closely to Kagome and draped his hair over his shoulder.

Kagome finished with the fox boy and pulled the hair out of her brush.  Inu Yasha stared pointedly at the brush and then looked up into her eyes, back down to the brush and to his own white mane.  Kagome sighed and casually tried to run the brush through his hair.  It got caught on a snarl.  Inu Yasha turned his back on her, presenting her with a whole cascade of snarled, white tresses.

Shippou abandoned Kagome’s lap as Inu Yasha tried to move in.  Kagome gently placed her hands on the dog demon’s shoulders to keep him at a workable distance.  Using short strokes she managed to untangle most of his hair.  By the time she could do long strokes he had his nose up, eyes closed, smiling at the sky.  A deep purr resonated from his throat as she used her brush and fingers to massage his scalp.  She abandoned the brush and used her fingers to scratch behind his ears.  He leaned back farther and farther until he was resting against her.  He stared up at her with his amber eyes.

“Comfortable?” she asked with a smile.

“Very,” he responded and closed his eyes.

She leaned back on the hill with a demon on her chest, watching the clouds race by.  It was a good day.
