Opportunity

Inuyasha stood beside Miroku, who lay sprawled beside the fire.  “What the hell are you doing?”

Miroku grinned and held up a bottle.  “Here, DRINK!  To us!”

Inuyasha took the bottle and sniffed at its contents.  “Sake?”

Miroku nodded and tried to sit up.  His body decided it liked being horizontal and he fell back with a groan.  “I hate to drink alone…”

“Why are you drinking, Houshi?”  Inuyasha asked sitting down across the fire from his traveling companion.

Miroku made a face.  “Does there have to be a reason?  Drink!”

Inuyasha sighed and downed the remaining contents of the bottle in one long swig.

Miroku stared at him in sadness.  “You downed almost the whole bottle…”

Inuyasha winced at the taste and wiped his mouth.  “Yeah?  Well… You offered.”

Miroku chuckled and pulled out another bottle.  “No matter… I have another bottle.”

“Why are you really getting drunk?” Inuyasha asked, finding it a little difficult to keep his vision in focus.

Miroku rubbed his face and took a sip from his bottle.  “I found a girl who would have given me an heir,” he said quietly.

“You did?” Inuyasha belched, feeling a little light headed.

“I did,” Miroku nodded with a sad look on his face.  “Unfortunately she was slain by that youkai we battled today and…” Miroku trailed off and took another sip.  He wiped away the tears that had formed in the corner of his eyes.  “She was so sweet and beautiful… why did she have to die?”

Inuyasha shook his head.

Someone approached the two.  “Miroku, what’s wrong?” Kagome asked, sitting between them.

“Inuyasha… you never know when these things will happen,” Miroku moaned.

“What things?” Kagome asked, looking confused.

Inuyasha looked at Kagome.  He blinked rapidly, trying to focus on her.

“One minute you are in bliss and the next she is food for some terrible youkai…” the monk wailed.

Inuyasha nodded, still staring at Kagome.  Kagome gave him a look as if to say, “What?”

“Inuyasha… if the opportunity comes up for you, just take it.  You never know… what…” Miroku promptly passed out.

Kagome stared at the monk for a long moment before turning to Inuyasha.  “Inuyasha, what…?”  She stopped, seeing the look in his eyes.  It was the look of a starving man who was being tempted by a rice ball.  “Inuyasha?”

He snarled and pounced on her, knocking her down.

“Inuyasha?  Sit!”

He fell against her, his head landing heavily on her stomach.  He moaned and reached down, trying desperately to untie his pants.

“What are you doing?”

Inuyasha growled in frustration and began to thrust his hips on the ground between her knees.  He reached up and wrapped his arms around her thighs.  He whimpered, burying his face against her belly.  He gave one last thrust of his hips and went limp above her.

“Inuyasha…?” Kagome cried, shaking his shoulders.

He gave a soft snore.

Inuyasha woke up feeling terrible.  Both his head and his back hurt.  He seemed to be resting against something soft and warm.  He opened his eyes to see Kagome sleeping beneath him.  He was on her stomach.  A faint scent of his musk touched his nose, mingled with hers.  He sat up quickly.  “What did we…?”

Kagome opened her eyes and looked up at him.  “You’re awake.”

“What did we do?” he asked.

“What do you think we did?” she asked carefully.

He looked around wildly.  “Holy shit… I hope I didn’t hurt you… Did I hurt you?  Oh crap, Miroku is right there!”

Kagome smiled at him.  “You didn’t hurt me.”

“I didn’t?” Inuyasha looked down at her in something between relief and hope.

She shook her head.  “No, you didn’t.”

He relaxed and fearfully glanced at Miroku who was still asleep.  He looked back to her with a hopeful look in his eyes.  “Good.  Did… um… you like it?”

She smiled at him.  “What do you think we did?”

“I… don’t remember,” he said quietly.

She sat up and reached out to comb his bangs out of his face with her fingers.  “We didn’t do anything.  You tried, but I said the ‘S’ word and you couldn’t get your pants off.”

He looked to the ground.  “Then why do I smell myself… and you?”

“I think you may have…”

Inuyasha looked down at his still knotted pants and sniffled.  He turned red.

“And me… I guess I was a little… excited that you wanted me like that.”

Inuyasha looked up at her.  “You were?”

She nodded and blushed.

He listened to the night sounds around them.  He felt slightly disgusted with himself for the mess he made and what he had almost done.

“Shall we go back to sleep?” her voice broke through his thoughts, her scent sharpening in his senses.

“I should go clean myself up,” he replied.

“It can wait for tomorrow.”

He nodded and lay beside her.  She snuggled against him and he held her.
