A couple of years ago, I applied for and received the Professional Wildlife Biologist certification through The Wildlife Society. It was a task to assemble all the requested work history, experience, college coursework information and references, but the rewards are well worth the effort.

While you are thinking about becoming a  Certified Wildlife Biologist, take this simple 4-question test and find out if you are a "certifiable" wildlife biologist. *

All joking aside,  I highly recommend that every biologist consider this valuable certification. If you are a student or have recently graduated and do not meet the minimum 5 years of professional experience, you can still apply for an Associate Wildlife Biologist certification while you gain the necessary experience. This step will make the latter application much simpler and will help you to document your experience.
