¨ September 14th, 2005 Meeting: Doc Wally Myslewski on "Steelhead Biology and its Impact on Angler Success". Even a cursory understanding of steelhead biology can make a positive impact on angler success rates. Doc Wally is a retired surgeon with a marine biology background who is now a full-time guide and fly fisherman. He guides on both Elk and Walnut Creek. Steelhead will soon be running up the Erie tribs, so mark your calendar, because the doctor will be “in” on Wednesday September 14th and you don’t need an appointment.
¨ October 12th, 2005 Meeting: Steve Hegedus on The Lure and Lore of Fly Fishing for Trout in Brooks. Tri-County Trout Club’s own Steve Hegedus will present a slide program about fly fishing for trout in small streams in PA and the Blue Ridge region of North Carolina. Topics will include info on the quarry; tackle and necessary gear; techniques and tactics; fly patterns; and why even bother with small streams?
¨ November 9th, 2005 Meeting: Ted Fauceglia’s writing can frequently be found in magazines such as Fly Fisherman, American Angler, and Fly Tyer. However, it is Ted’s photographs that have really brought him notoriety. Simply put, Ted’s photos are incredible. If you aren’t familiar with his work, his favorite subjects aren’t pretty outdoor scenes or trophy fish, instead, Ted trains his lens on some of the more minute residents of the wild. His subjects are many of the insects that fly tiers attempt to imitate, such as mayflies, caddisflies and stoneflies. His new book, “Mayflies” is packed full of the incredible photographs that he is known for. TCTC is proud to host Ted Fauceglia as our November 9th, 2005 guest speaker. Ted will give a PowerPoint presentation entitled “Mayflies”. It will give everyone a chance to see some of the best of more than 200,000 mayfly photos he took over several years to complete his book. Copies of his book, “Mayflies” will be available for purchase at the meeting at a discounted price with the proceeds going to TCTC.
¨ December 14th, 2005 Meeting: Fly Tying Demonstrations. Our December meeting will feature several fly tyers doing fly-tying demonstrations. So far our tentative schedule includes a couple of well respected local tyers. Dave Schmezer will demonstrate fly patterns that he has developed or modified to become some of his signature flies. Dave is a very experienced fly tyer and has tied flies for several area shops, including International Angler and Ligonier Outfitters. Ken Vallino will also be there, demonstrating fly patterns utilizing foam. Ken is the president of the Forbes Trail Chapter of Trout Unlimited and has lead stream improvements on Linn Run and Mill Creek in Ligonier. Ken earns his living as an art instructor, and his art includes creating wildlife sculptures from ceramic and wood. Ken is going to show us how to craft some tiny “works of art” out of foam. Hopefully the trout won’t be too critical of his work!
The plan for the evening is to have 3-4 fly tyers, each demonstrating a small number of fly patterns that they will tie in order, then repeat through several times. That way, we can divide the audience up into small groups and everyone will have a chance to see each tyer tie all of their patterns. If this works out okay, hopefully everyone will be able to see better, without a big crowd making it impossible to get close enough to see what the tyer is actually doing.
The TCTC Board of Directors wants to provide high quality speakers on a variety of interesting topics. It continues to be a challenge to find affordable guest speakers. If you know of any fishing-related speaker or could give us any leads, please feel free to inform one of the board members. If you like the speakers we have had, please let a board member know. We appreciate your feedback. If you have a suggestion for a future speaker or a topic you would like to see addressed, please pass your idea along to one of the board members or drop it in the SUGGESTION BOX at the monthly meeting. If there is someone or something you think the rest of your fellow members would be interested in seeing, let us know, and the board will consider it.

¨ Thank You Note to TCTC
WCO Martha Mackey sent a note thanking TCTC for what she called an “outstanding job” float stocking Bull Creek again this year. TCTC members are invaluable in the float stocking of local streams Bull and Deer Creek, lead by our longtime stocking coordinator, Don Orlowski. Thank you Don and all members who donate their precious free time to make sure the trout get dispersed along these streams. They will soon be busy again as the DHALO areas are scheduled to be stocked on Wednesday, October 5th. If you are interested in helping out, contact Don Orlowski at 724-335-1537, home email at orlo3_20@msn.com, work email at orlowski@freeport.k12.pa.us, or Don Stanko at 724-337-1496, email at Donald.Stanko@alcoa.com.

The Fisherman’s Net
The “net” we are referring to is the Internet. The Internet is a great source of knowledge if you know how to find it. Countless subjects are covered and angling is no exception. With that in mind, we will periodically provide you with some web sites that may be of interest to the angler.
Thanks to Garry Wiles, TCTC has its very own website. Garry has updated a web page with some current info on the club and an internet version of the newsletter. The club also has an email address: tctrout@earthlink.net
To see the TCTC website go to:
http://home.earthlink.net/~tctrout
This link may be of interest to TCTC members. It is a Westfly Bulletin Board article with some incredible photos of aquatic insects. Thanks to Garry Wiles for providing this link.

Members’ Classifieds
We are trying something new starting this month. For TCTC members only, you can run a free classified ad in The Leader. The general idea is to list 1-2 used items, no business advertisements. The listing will run for up to 3 months. The listing needs to include the description of the item you are selling, asking price, member’s name and contact phone number or email. Submissions may be edited for length. Contact newsletter editor Steve Hegedus with your listing. Phone 724-335-2679, email hegedussj@upmc.edu. The deadline for submission is the 20th of the month to get your item listed in the next month’s newsletter.
Here is the first Members’ Classified Ad:
