This lovely
vessel is based on the 12’ boat “Heidi” by Richard Kolin. Its framing is
oak, planks are clear white pine, the floor is marine plywood, and the
mast is Douglas fir. The sails were made by Dabbler Sails. The boat was
launched in the spring of 2005 and sailed all summer. This spring it was
repainted and re-varnished.
The boat has
many fine details, some hand carved, that make it a real head turner.
There is a coin (Canadian dime with a picture of the famous “Blue Nose”)
embedded in the mast step; an old ship building tradition for good luck.
The boat also
has a secret hidden compartment that contains a key that opens the
locked “treasure box”. I put clues in the box that lead to buried
‘treasure’ somewhere on our lake, but you make up your own mystery. This
is not just a sailboat, but a puzzle and an adventure as well! |
