Wilmot March 2007

Old in Years – Young in Spirit”

Dear Wilmot Neighbors,
This is the year! It’s finally here! For more than 7 years the Historical Society has been talking, thinking, and planning for this 200th year celebration! Your Bicentennial Committee has been hard at work to produce a fun agenda!

Here is how many people have visited this site! >> <<

The March Town Report featured a Bicentennial supplement including updated histories of the library, churches, Wilmot Community Association, Volunteer Fire Department, Garden Club, and Veteran’s War Monument. Dorothy Evans, 93, the oldest native-born citizen, will be honored in the report with her biography. Also featured are Tony Caruso, the oldest male resident, and Clara Langley, the oldest female resident. If you add up the years these three people have lived in Wilmot, it’s more than 200 years! Make sure you receive and save your report as a memento of this celebration.

Also available as a token of the bicentennial is the beautiful colored pin available from any committee member. They make a nice gift for only $3. All proceeds help fund 2007 activities and events. The Friends of the Wilmot Public Library also have a few calendars available for $10. The theme “School Days” is a real treasure which includes old school history and the 1976 town map.

Also save your pennies for the quilt raffles, bonnets, cookbook, and note cards!

“BIRTH OF A TOWN” by Olive Morey Chase, will be presented Sunday, July 22, at 2 and 6 p.m. at the Town Hall, North Wilmot Road and is directed by Meg Cowan. It is only the third time the play has been produced in 50 years. The other occasions were in June 1957 for the Sesquicentennial and in July 1976 for the United States Bicentennial. Clayton Nowell is the only person who will have participated in all three productions! Two shows on a Sunday, with a meal in between, will make for a fun time for all!

VETERANS’ WAR MONUMENT - If you have not purchased your granite paver for the Veterans’ walkway – now is the time! It’s a great way to honor anyone and makes a great gift for Fathers’ Day, Mothers’ Day, birthdays, anniversaries, or any occasion. The order blank is included on this site. A beautiful gift card designed by John Swindell will be sent to those giving a paver as a gift. Be apart of the next 200 years!

PARADE - Aug. 18th (rain date Aug/ 19th) – start planning now to enter your family float in the great event! With the theme “Old in Years – Young in Spirit,” we encourage Wilmot individuals, families, organizations, businesses, schools, and camps to enter a float. Kelsie Lee is parade organizer.
