Got up, got outta bed, dragged a comb across
my head. Said it's been
awhile since I been fed, but first I gotta hit the head. So then, since
it
was our last night in Dusseldorf we went out to a nice place for dinner,
to
celebrate our vacation, knowing that we wouldn't be able to do it often.
There was a place across the street (and the
trolley line that
connected Oberkassel to downtown) from the bar where we were the night
before, looked good, so we went inside. Got seated right away, and
started
on the Alt, switched to the weizen (the Alt yesterday spoiled us),
and
finished with Berliner Weiss Green, which was wild. It comes in Red,
Yellow,
and Green. There are actually two bottles, one with the sour beer,
another
with the sweet Color mix that is added to the beer and served in a
big
goblet of a glass with drawings all over it to advertise the beer.
The
result is a colorful tasty fun beer for dessert. We had a few, but
let me
tell you about dinner.
I had a steak with a peppercorn sauce, potatoes,
little roasted guys,
and string beans, french cut with little pieces of ham mixed in.
Mmmmmmmmmmm. Tony had fish with red rice. Ohhhhhhhhhhhh.
Zeke, although had the killer. The waiter, when taking our order, told
us
that it was "the time of the asparagus" and they featured a few dishes
with
the white asparagus as the main course really, even though there was
a meat
served with it. In our travels around town the last two days we had
seen
numerous stores selling the white asparagus, it was thicker than the
green
we usually see and looked quite delicious, if you like that sort of
thing.
Anyway. Zeke got Weinerschnitzel with the white
asparagus, and almost
had an orgasm at the table tasting it. So we all tried it and wished
we had
ordered it. If you ever have a chance to eat it fresh, jump on it.
I'm told
by a friend who works down the food distribution center, that it is
very
expensive though. Oh, by the way there was a couple sitting at the
table
next to us, the tables were pretty close, who just stared into each
others
eyes all night. I mean they ate and drank but never more than a couple
of
seconds would pass that they weren't locked in the longest staring
contest
I've ever seen.
I went back to the Hostel and crashed, Zeke
and Tony, being younger,
and not having to drive to Koln (Cologne) the next day went on to bigger
and
better things.
They found another bar. With a guy who spoke
English behind it. The
Oberkassel Bauhaus it was. They closed it drinking Dusseldorf Jagr,
Asbach,
Helles and Dunkle Urtyp (what the hell is that? I'm not sure, it's
in my
journal). But you get the picture. The next day it's breakfast. Make
a
couple of sandwiches from the lunchmeat and rolls they serve for breakfast,
for a later lunch (we found out later that they frown on this). And
we're
outta here. Adios, farewell, auf weidezien .(I'm not sure how to spell
this,
anybody got a Cheap Trick Album?)
P.S. It turned out to be Aass Bock beer a product of Norway, the Helles
and Dunkle are light and dark and Urtyp denotes that this beer is
typical of the style.
