Jonathan Brown was born in Devonshire England in 1878.Orphaned at a young age he never knew real love until he met Elizabeth Sutton, daughter of the Duke of Windsborough.Though a pauper Elizabeth was drawn to this aspiring writer for his good looks and charm. She quickly won his heart and delighted in breaking it.Johnathan's lament was found crudely written among his personal belongings when he died in 1899.
The cold wind blows and the rain begins to pour I stare blankly out my window
And realize,I don't love you anymore
The wind is as cold as your heart
And the rain is the epitaph of the tears I cried Washing away the love that has died
My mind wanders to the day when first we met In the village woods we were beholders of that glowing sunset That set the tone for many a warm and happy day I had been lost for so long
Now at last,I had found my way
I wasn't lonely or sad anymore
You opened a new door
To love,light,joy,and reason
The winter of my life faded into a new season The chords that had been all wrong
Turned into our song
And my heartstrings became as a violin in spring Two became one and soon church bells would ring That day all my dreams came true
The flower of love had bloomed and now I had you I cherished and nourished you for many a day But my Blossom wilted when another came her way I guess Love must exit to enter
Today she is like the dead weeds of winter She is now in someone else's heart
Maybe she will bring him spring like she did for me Maybe they can watch the same sunsets under our favorite tree Picnic down the hill by the sparkling brook Steal a kiss in our secret little wooded nook Today she is but a memory of yesterday's rose A chapter in a book I must close
But it hurts so much I want you to know
Can I ever forget the golden sunset's glow And the joy you brought to my life
The day you became my wife
I don't know what lies ahead or may be in store
As the cold wind blows and the rain pounds on my door
A flower blooms on some distant shore
But not for me
I don't love you anymore
POET'S HEAVEN
Last night I dreamed that I died And God sent me to a place for poet's that tried For bread to rise it needs leaven He sent this chaff to poet's Heaven First thing he said was that you may not be here long The poets that are here will judge your song If they like it perhaps you can stay If not,you are on your way I was as happy as a baby at birth When first I saw William Wordsworth He smiles and began to recite My heart was pounding and my chest was tight "A pagan suckled in a creed outworn. So might I,standing on this pleasant lea, Have glimpse that would make me less forlorn; Have sight of Proteus rising from the sea; Or hear old Triton blow his wreathed horn." "A sample" he chuckled as he walked away I was speechless, not a word could I say Then Elizabeth Barrett Browning walked through the door Her lovely words filled my pores "A creature might forget to weep, who bore Thy comfort long, and lost thy love thereby! But love me for love's sake, thats evermore Tho mayst love on,through love's eternity." Leaving without a sign Poe's piercing eyes next were on mine " But our love it was stronger far than the love Of those that were older than we, Of many far wiser than we. And neither the angels in heaven above, Nor the demons down under the sea, Can ever dissever my soul from the soul Of the beautiful Annabel Lee:" A raven flew in as he disappeared And my body shivered in a state I feared I didn't know how long I had to tarry My breath returned when I saw Phoebe Cary " Suppose the world doesn't please you. Nor the way some people do; Do you think the whole creation Will be altered just for you? And isn't it my boy or girl, The wisest, bravest plan, Whatever comes or doesn't come, To do the best you can?" "Come my dear Winston, you must have something to say, If in Poet's Heaven, with us you want to stay" So much I wanted to be chosen But not a word could I utter,my lips were frozen Then Ella Wheeler Wilcox spoke to me "You never can tell when you do an act Just what the result will be, But with every deed you are sowing a seed, Though the harvest you may not see. Each kindly act is an acorn dropped In God's productive soil; You may not know, but the tree shall grow With shelter for those who toil" She took my hand and kissed me as I cried For a fleeting moment I was in Poet's Heaven And only in dreams will I ever go there But at least I tried
Sometimes I Cry
For all the joy I have ever known Laughter often than not is not the emotion I have shown It may seem odd that the tears that are shown for sorrow Are more often then not joys for tomorrow I cried tears of joy when I first met you I cried because because I couldn't believe it was true That you cared about children, animals and our Earth No matter how small, everything had its worth No amount of money or fame will ever change that fact So forgive me sometimes if foolish I act Sorrow is not the burden that makes me sigh More often than not I'm happy when I cry
You and Me
YOU and ME
Some things were just meant to be Most of all you and me Together like the clouds and the sky Saturn and her rings way on high Texas and her bluebonnets Shakespeare and his sonnets Italy and Rome With you I am Home No more mountain summits thrill Or dream of castles in Seville Sail the oceans wide One more time the pampas ride These things I no longer miss For I have found Heaven in your kiss The stars in your eyes The moon even sighs When we embrace The Earth pauses in space And gives a gentle smile Love reigns forever and a while That is the way it will always be Together, you and me
Princess CornBlossom
Long ago in a land called Kentucky, home of the bear, deer and opossum Lived an Indian Princess known as CornBlossom Fair as the yellow of the corn and the tassels in the morn Her beauty was boundless,no man could scorn The shining star of Chief Doublehead A beacon to the tribe she led In August 1810, under Yahoo Falls The dream dies and death calls Women and children of the Cherokee Nation would cry in pain As their blood flowed marking forever history's stain Mocking the peace cry of the white man's refrain Massacred in cold blood under a refuge they sought By evil white men and the justice they brought CornBlossom was mortally wounded but for two more days she would live This flower from Heaven had no more to give Before she died she screamed these words So loud even the eagles heard "WE ARE NOT CONQUERED YET" The sun on her memory will never set And sometimes on Lookout Mountain in Tennessee An Eagle flies and I know CornBlossom is free
LOUISIANA
The spanish moss grows on cypress tree Where the mighty Mississippi flows into the sea This lonely bayou land which I love so much Is surely a place God had to touch From Baton Rouge to New Orleans Southern Belles and Cajun Queens Blessed from God up above Louisiana, land I love
EAST OF THE MOON AND WEST OF THE SUN
There is a place just for you and I Where the joy replaces the cry A place so far away You have to travel many a day There are no sign post to guide Only a rainbow to ride Your journey has just begun And your destination is East of the Moon and West of the Sun No road or path showing the way Once you leave you must stay So come and go with me Where our love can be forever free I am going now and I will meet you there Where the sun never sets on a care And the culmination of a million dreams undone Finally come to pass, East of the Moon and West of the Sun
KATHLEEN
The cold wind blows the dunes of the shifting sand As I stand here in the Desert of Man And in the distance like a mirage I see A lovely and graceful tree And it brings to me a vision I've seen Of a beautiful life force named Kathleen Here in this oasis where the springs sing their song Amidst miles and miles of desolation long It grows from the barren soil in this land extreme A windblown and timeless evergreen When my book is read and my story is told The desert winds whisper"some things never grow old" Love.grace and beauty through the centuries unfold As I look into the shining star sky and ask "what does it all mean" Heaven smiles above the canopy Queen As the moon lights the evergreen And the wind of love replies "Kathleen"
MELODY OF LIFE There is a melody of life and as I watch it go by it softly speaks to me of years past ,a song with the refrain why the chords of love, honor, trust and duty filled the air and once I thought they would always be there to use and cherish in our own life song the melody remains but the words are wrong love has turned to dust from the sandstone whence it came and the sweet lyrics of honor, trust and duty are now just a game the lost notes hauntingly fill the air as I intently listen for a song that never comes while teardrops glisten oh,compose it all over for me again and keep those sweet lyrics as it was then but as the violin is silent without the bow true love needs a fertile field to grow then Life's melody will always be heard as clear and happy as a songbird so when your music fills the air and the clouds sing in the sky gone like the stardust of yesterdays refrain, why
FALLOW FIELDS
oh weep would I for dreams never true of a vanished yesterday for me and you in fantasies fields with hope planted deep a promised harvest for a growers reap with skyward eyes I watch and wait as the fiery orb seals my fate my crops unplanted for I've no water doomed as the son of destiny's daughter oh love come back to field of fallow together plant the seeds in dreams so hallow wayward and wandering spirit return whence you belong to the soil of happiness and roots so strong the sun rises and the dream dies love fades in eternal skies water my soul and let it grow banish every care that I may know whether fields fertile or fallow love never blooms fair and callow in a heart grown to stone so wishes defied and memories gone the wind blows the sand from the fields time passes and time heals the bleached bones from yesterday's tallow llies in wait in fields of fallow requiem for a lover's trust till we meet dust to dust
BRANDON AND THE MONEY TREE
Brandon and I took a walk one day A money tree we found in the woods far away I promised him and he promised me Never would we tell about the money tree we used it for a lot of things Toys, bikes, and diamond rings The rest of the world may live in poverty Brandon and I have the money tree He's going to buy Mom a house on the hill Anything he wants for brother Bill It will always bring a smile, never a tear But don't tell anyone Papa or it will disappear I have never told anyone until this day And though I promised I would never say Where we found the money tree that day Now that Brandon's grown up and gone away I look up and see his picture in a frame I have to tell them Brandon, it was just a game But worth something far more than the money tree Are those precious memories and the love you have for me For all the gold and silver on this earth Could never measure up to Brandon's worth
IF
If I could have been someone else and not me I wonder If I would have made any difference in the world that we see Could anyone have possibly known or given a tinker's damn what I might have been or who the hell I am would I wander just as aimlessly as I do now or If I could have been another would the world differ somehow the significance of who I am doesn't really matter in a world filled with pettiness and clatter so I will just stumble along and try not to fall and someday quicken my pace and stand so tall so proud of me my presence you would always miss and the rose you caress tonight would be our eternal kiss miserably I have failed and happiness has not prevailed but crawl I must before I run and run must I before I am done to find that elusive me or that someone I might have been or be caged forever in the serpent's den my chains unschackled and now I am free not to be you,I can only be me so listen to me my little lad all in all that is not to bad perhaps we should be thankful who we are for a road not crossed is a bridge to far and a life ain't worth living if the taking exceeds the giving so forgive me for repeating this riff and forget I ever asked "what If"
WHO AM I
I look into the mirror and see the same face every day But who is the man in the glass who reflects my way How well do I really know him and what truth will he tell Is he of Heaven or headed for Hell Oh answer me my friend and be honest once in your life for you see integrity is sharp as a razor and can cut like a knife into the evilness and degradation in a world filled with strife of what mettle are you oh lonely eyes who gaze back at me can't you just say something even if it is a lie can't you just be a man once before you die do you know who the hell you are or don't you have a clue of where you are going and what you are going to do dusk is falling and the day is late the ticking clock awaits your fate oh destiny, friend of mine I drink of thy bittersweet wine and see my epitaph carved in stone for me and me alone the inscription I will not say for it is a price to high to pay but the winds of life will not blow forever and mercy not ceaselessly granted by the Caregiver so take heed soon before you die and answer soon that face, who am I
FROM WHOM THE BELLS TOLL
To whom much is given ,much is required of deeds, words, and love desired my cup runneth over and I pour it in the reservoir of your soul and as the poet asked, for whom the bells toll you level your eyes and stare at me with trembling lips utter"they toll for thee"
GRAINS OF SAND IN THE HOUR GLASS
There are just 365 days in a year you know treasure each one down Life's path you go 8760 hours within this frame so quickly they fly,it's a shame 525,600 minutes down the hour glass they fall so enjoy each one before next year's call and in parting remember these words of rhyme there are lots of days, weeks, months, and years in time many like grains of sand on the beach by the sea washed away no longer to be but gone from our memories they are not time dies, but friends true never forgot savor each minute of this year so new and be happy in each and everything you do
THE WATERS EDGE
In the autuum I wandered upon the cliffs ledge and gazed into the distance to the rocks by the waters edge With uncertain steps I trod down the path that leads to the sea where the crashing surf pounded the boulders and sent a chill through me The placid waters that had been my life seemed so lonely and far away down the sand I ran and ran till night disolved into day The waves had died and a stillness enveloped my being through the quiet and drifting fog I could not believe what I was seeing Beneath the gulls where the limstone caves come into view strode a misty figure that had to be you The beguileing graceful gait of that someone who long ago had disappeared was now running into the arms she used to know As the clouds raced across the moon and the stars shined through space I stood there in awe as I looked into your beautiful face It was still there ,the lovely smile and that twinkle in your eye and those lips that could never utter a lie You held my hand and eased me towards the waters edge then I saw a strange sight upon the cliffs by the rocky ledge Someone calling out to me in a far away voice do not go.do not go ,you still have a choice If you go any farther than the waters edge I fear you may be lost is the price you are going to pay really worth the cost I struggled to break free from those lovely hands that held me but I had waited to long, now I belong to you and the deep blue sea As the waters engulfed us I saw one last glimpse of the sky and thought about my life and whether I was going to die Then suddenly you were there like you have always been holding and caressing me though you knew my sin The sea is still once more as we move away from the waters edge and make our way home past the cliff by the rocky ledge
DESTINATION
Once upon a midnight moor while walking neath the moon A voice whispered out to me,where are you going so soon Do you have a place in mind, perhaps the village or the town Are you taking the road over the hill or the one that goes down The one that leads by the ocean where the rocks rise in the sea Where we alone went, just my friend,my friend and me Where we would stay in a world all our own where time had no meaning and all our cares were gone she is vanished now as quickly and quietly as the fog that appears and disappears in this mysterious bog where she went I know not though life lost it's meaning it did seem I reflect back on it and ponder the question, was it real or just a dream maybe it was just my imagination or like the games I played as a child where you could be any thing you wanted to be,no matter how crazy or wild so my friend I ask you which way are you going, which path will you take the one over the hill or the one down by the sea, where my heart did break who are you and what do you mean I demanded to know I know where I am at and where I am going to go what do you want whispering to me like this so late at night where only the moon I have my path to light I my friend he did reply am the face you see in the mirror when you do look the reflection in the water down by the brook I know all your thoughts and everthing you do you see my friend I am really only you the whispers that you heard were just the wind drifting in your mind back to another place, another time tryiny to capture what once might have been if you had taken another road way back then so I am glad you know which road you may take the one over the hill and down by the lake the one where a good friend does reside where truth and goodness and beauty abide where the flowers always bloom and the sky is forever blue where all the dreams you've ever dreamed always come true
MY LITTLE ACORN
In our life we see and do many a thing and share in the good times our friends bring yet we have just so much time to do the things we want and leave behind in the junkyard of life the things we don't all the fears and the dreams that never came true and it seemed to be so little time to spend with friend's like you there is a finite time to the number of our heart beat just so many days we are blessed by Sol's heat so I will get to the heart of the matter of what I am saying to you no not like crumbs to the birds when you give of yourself as you do but little morsels of goodness spread not to just a few tis been said "the pen is mightier than the sword". with more power than any warlord so in closing I pen this to you and I mean it very much thanks for being a friend, for spreading the sunshine for our soul to touch I've always believed one smile.one word, one person, could a difference make born of a tiny ripple into a mighty wake you may never know all the good you've done down the roadway of Life's long run unless someone told you and I am telling you now like the tree with many a branch and bough like the Oak that rises so tall till one day the little acorn did fall and you know what that seed turned into so as your leaves blow in the frosty dew I look up to the heavens and thank God for giving us a little Acorn like YOU!
THE SUNSHINE TRAIL
Come with me down the sunshine trail Through the meadow, across the brook to the dale Where the whippoorwill sings his love song every night And the moon kisses the mountains till the dawns morning light Where the flowers grow wild and free And it's quiet and peaceful as the soft breezes caress the leaves on the cottonwood tree And suddenly the years melt away You are a kid once again and you have found a place to stay Off go the shoes as you pull on your pigtail And stick your toes in the dancing waters by the sunshine trail Wondering how many raindrops or snowflakes did it take to create this brook that journeys to the ocean's lake counting the stars in the faraway sky Gazing at the heavens and pondering why Can't I just stay a kid again And live here with the trees and the wind Where the doe and her fawn graze in the distant light And the bear and her cub feign a fight And though I am alone I have a million friends From all the stars in the sky to the foxes in their dens Here I am a note in the chord of life Amidst peace and harmony in a world without strife Where I can sing my song and just be me in a life without travail Down by the brook, across the meadow by the sunshine trail.
MY FRIEND RICH
The measure of a man and his worth Are oft times judged by money or status at birth But if virtue were silver and goodness was gold There walks a rich man among our fold And if the thought was on whom could you depend It would be this person, our Marine and our friend So take your money, prestige and status; the race wouldn't be close Let us salute and applaud this destined trove,Richard Campos The fire that melts butter only tempers him And his guiding light will never dim Thanks for the rays of inspiration when the going got tough No quartz, ruby. or dimond in the rough But a real gem is a person I know No pretense, bravado or show A friend to Kings or a beggar in the ditch Here's to a good human being,my friend Rich
THE ALPHABET
26 letters make up our alphabet I think they are all important and to them a toast I drink without them our written language would be in the tank and the world would be cold, dark, and dank I could never write;I love you or look at those eyes so blue or something I couldn't say to your face because it might seem out of place there would be no books full of reason and rhyme and history as we know it would be a thousand years back in time the holy Bible might never have been read Tolstoy's War and Peace light never shed Joyce's Ulysses just as dead or Lincoln's famous quote "The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here (words we hold so dear) but it can never forget what they did here" a poigant message that brings a tear So I hold my glass high and toast a salute and hope the point is well taken and won't be moot "Here's to 26 little symbols that changed the world from the foreboding rock of ignorance into the shining wisdom of the Pearl
WELCOME TO MY WORDS
Once Upon A Time
Once upon a time
Is the opening line
In many a fairy tale rhyme
It speaks in a magical way
Of when the child had his way
Of Kings,Queens, and Princess galore
Fairies,witches,gremlins,goblins,
And oh so much more
A time of innocence and flowers
Of castles and towers
Rainbows in the day and stars in the night Jack and Jill,Cinderella and Snow White
Little Red Riding Hood and The Little Red Hen The Sun and the Wind
The Three Little Pigs and The Gingerbread Boy Take me back to that joy
Peter Pan never wanted to grow up and I don't think he ever did
He never kept the child in him hid
He opened the jar and threw away the lid So his dreams could fly like he
And that's what I want for you and me
Age is for old people
Ancient churches with their tall steeple Redwood trees, rocks, and the like
You may dam the river with your dike
And turn the soil with your plow
You may steal my future and ridicule me now Raise the bread with leaven
Build your towers to Heaven
That may be part of your schemes
But don't ever take my dreams
For my dreams are you
Past,present and new
Just like the fairy tale without reason or rhyme
May the child live forever
Once upon a time
Poems
JUIN VITICOLE
In the spring time through the Forest of Ardennes the Semois River flows It is a beatiful green world where time is as slow as the water that seaward goes Here in this enchanted land a damsel by chance I was to meet The Great War was long in my memory and the vintage from that era was bittersweet Hardened by death and stung by life the years had taken their toll In the mid of June in the village of Chally` along the Semois shore ,I found my gold A lassie that glowed even in the twilight's gleam sunsets and moon light dissolved into a pikers dream the white wine of the Bordeaux tantalized the buds of our taste smooth as the river ebb and as I kissed her neath Venus's shine I was drawn into her webb and there I stayed where the grape was oh so sweet untill the Reaper piped me from this retreat she lives on in solitude by this river so fair in this pastoral setting where sadness fills the air In mid June a strange ritual by the waters takes its place as she cradles the white wine and tears of sorrow caress her face the wine in the water did go all but a sip and one lonely drop she touched to her lip I can drink of this harvest oh no more for this vintage is not of my lover's lore the silent bells of happiness that rang in our souls is now posterity's din and the joy and love we shared on the river Semois shall not pass this way again and alas one more tear did she cry as the wine of love slowly flowed away, with a broken heart she did die
THE RAIN
I listen to the rain outside my door and it takes me back when I was poor to a little shack out in the country where the creeks ran wild and free the sky so black and the thunder so loud and lighting flashed cloud to cloud I always wondered why Thor was so mad did he not like this place because it's bad now that I am older I think I know why with such force his trumpet did blow it was with joy what the rain drops would bring the first red rose to bloom in the spring and the promise from the sky above that it would be a symbol of our love Thor is silent where I live now but the memory lives on somehow of those long ago days with Mom And Pop as I sit here reminiscing with every rain drop I know I was rich even back then I had you ,the sky,and the wind so may our spirit forever blow free like the water to the rose.like you to me

TYLER AND HIS CAT
Here is a story about a boy and his cat A story of love, fate, destiny and more than that Born by the tracks in a patch of weeds on a cold autumn day In the latter days of November when the winter winds began to make their way A kitten was born doomed to a life in the slums and eating out of a garbage bin With his mom and siblings the future looked like a man in a lion's den The question was never what we are going to eat but when But as fate would have it,they were found by a kind man named Paul And he took them in,yes he did, took them in one and all Fed them ,cared for them and the future begin to look bright Mom was gone now,but it was warm here and we could sleep at night What to do with all these kitties became a concern And now the plot thickens as we will learn Some nice ladies from the land of the Grove Had already adopted a kitty from this unlikely trove On the south side where the trains rumble through and their night whistle's blow Where life is hard, especially for a kitty you know Simba is her name and these kitties are her brothers and sisters albeit the father not the same These ladies learned once again of these south side kitties that lived in Stockton town One had a little boy who wanted a kitty and she said "oh please bring them around' Two were brougt out ,cuddled, kissed and " I like that one ,could you bring him back' I will go and home and consult with Dad This would be a great Christmas present for our little lad I will use my feminine wiles and ways you know And getting this kitty will be like the sunshine melting the snow The little fur ball came back the next day Not for just a visit but this time to stay Now the mystery deepens and we will never know why Come Monday morn the remaining have vanished like the night leaving the sky Though we know not why and it makes us sad One little kitty made it and for that we are glad For a wonderful thing happened on that Christmas morn And it was like peas in a pod or ears on corn I was meant to be with you since I was born I could have been a chicken, goat or ducky But destiny brought me to you Tyler and so aptly you named me,I am indeed LUCKY
BANE OF THE EARTH
A gun metal grey sky looms over a blackened Earth As I stare listlessly and wonder was it all worth The price we paid in blood and generations yet to be All in the name of democracy and wanting to be free My heart is pounding and my mind is in a whirl I think back to the time that you were my girl I guess there are a million stars in Heaven and they are all common place But you were mine alone and I can still see your face Your smile, that twinkle in your eye and that feeling of peace when I was with you All those fun and happy things we used to do You were my star know not I the reason or rhyme That kept me going through this perilous time As I lie down and my sun sets forever in the west I die happy because you were the one I loved best Wars come and go and we never learn Till to late the lover's discern The debt is too much to pay And the Earth never forgives a gunmetal day
THE VALLEY OF METAPHOR
Beneath a cragginess wall through a forest divine I dissolved and emerged and saw a sign A white wolf's siren song echoed in my mind As the winds of darkness sought out their find The gargoyle eagles stirred on their perch The garotte's melody resonated around the golden birch Behold a white steed with the face of Venus Separated the ice and fire between us On a winged mount into the river's divide A frozen goddess whose tears never dried The smile stil upon her face The sepulcher silently awaits her place But the fires of Hades never quell The stone cold heart where lovers dwell Seraphic breezes fill the air The winds of eternity lay the soul bare Recompense me oh my love and escape the fate the brave only dare Come fly away with me From this darkness flee Day is dark and night is light Our journey begins on that endless flight A page of Life's book as we close the door And look one last time upon the Valley of Methaphor
The Legend Of The Gull
God made the gull to fly over the sea And he took a little lonely and put it in him For all those sad times You would be away from me Now you have gone and I am all alone With only the sea for my grief to atone I am now the gull destined forever more To live in sorrow on these distant shores I don't know if this story of the gull is true But the next time you see one Maybe it's your lost love searching for you
Annie Doesn't Live Here Anymore
Here I stand in front of the old house with the broken down door A twinge of sadness fills the air as a long ago memory whispers "Annie doesn't live here anymore" I see the oak tree in the yard out back by the flower garden where the birds used to sing And try to remember how many times Annie and I rode that old tire swing The tree is almost dead now and the tire lies on the ground The silence is deafening as I make my way around To the little creek we used to swim in and the crayfish abound Where days were hours and the sun never went down The baby fawn we fed by dusk's closing light And the millions of stars we counted on a moonless night The time you ran away and I thought you would never come back home But you did and you promised me never again would you roam We climbed every rock and hill untill winter's fall But in a faraway land things were amiss and I answered my country's call Now after years of Hell I stand again under the old oak tree And think once again of Annie and me As I walk slowly away it all seems so sad For you see,Annie never existed, she was the love I never had
The Blue Eyed Cat And The Red Barn Owl
They were the best of friends They were the best of pals The blue eyed cat And the red barn owl One slept at day The other at night They both knew wrong They both knew right How this friendship came to be Is still a mystery to me But I will tell you what I know Perhaps some truth it will show When the blue eyed cat was just a lad The owl saved his life When he could have been had Attacked by a rat in the gloom of night To slow to run,to little to fight From out of nowhere a swish was heard The rat was dead, thanks to that bird His talons sank deep and off he flew He had saved his little friend, this he knew I will repay you someday said the cat Don't worry about it said the owl Friends are for things like that The cat would play while the owl would sleep When darkness fell An eye on his friend he would keep I don't remember the day Somewhere around the last of May When upon a trap the cat did chance Its jaws poised like a lance It was dark and the cat could not see Death lurking, but it was not to be From out of nowhere a swish again was heard The cat was saved but dead would be the bird He had set that trap of steel And in doing so did reveal How much he had loved his friend The one he had known since way back then As he lay dying The cat was crying Don't be sad my friend the cat Was the last words he uttered Friends are for things like that Nothing would be the same from that day on His one true pal,the owl was gone I've told the story and I hope I have told it right About the best of pals The blue eyed cat and the red barn owl
THE DEVIL'S TOWER
Out of the plains of northeastern Wyoming a sentinel stands A monument to a time long ago when the Indians roamed these lands Rising from the forest-patched hills and grassland flower Stands a testament to the ages,The Devil's Tower But before it was so named and the Indians were free This monolith was called Mateo Tepee Meaning Grizzly Bear Lodge which was just a stone And how it came to be is a story that is almost gone The Kiowas lived here many years ago Through searing summers and winters snow Seven little maidens in the spring climbed this rock without a care Little knowing their lives were to be changed forever by the great Grizzly Bear The Great Spirit grew this rock to be the mighty Devil's Tower And saved the maidens that day from the Grizzly's power Today in the fluted rock formations you can still see the marks left by the claw But what happened to the maidens after they escaped his paw They were borne into eternity these lovely Indian ladies And you see them now as the seven stars of the Pleiades So stand tall oh tower of strife And thank these maidens for giving you life When we see you and ask the question why The stars of the Pleiades twinkle in the sky
A Lover's Lament
Love is like the seasons, the rose and the cycles of the moon It has a beginning,it shines bright and ends oh so soon I first met you in the cold of winter's snow I loved you at first sight and thought it would always be so We wed in the springtime of our youth when the roses grow And like the rose you burst forth in all your glory Just like a princess in a picture book story The moon has waned, the rose has died and it is winter once again The lover laments " Oh why can't it be like it was then" But you and I know it is the nature of human kind We always love with the heart and not the mind So don't be so sad when love is gone away Like the rose it will bloom again another day Like the moon it will brighten another night The seasons come and go amidst the lover's plight Don't ever say you won't love again because you just might
THE DEMISE OF DEMOSTHENES
The descanting Desiree dreams no longer of me And the monamanic triangle deepens in mystery The master tends his grapes as on the vine they grow And the wine of Demosthenes reap the vintage they sow The Venetian sun shines on the Norse shore As the reptilian enters Desiree's door The nymph smiles as the harvest is near The voice of Demosthenes is just a whisper I fear The viking ship vanishes in the night As the winepress brings her fruit to light The sword of Damocles hangs over his head As Danaus's daughter slithers into bed The mast and timbers lie upon the reef The apocalyptic vision now bears his grief Now Danaid's poison is the daggar I knew Desiree makes this allegorical dream come true The sieve which once made the juices divine Cannot hold the water in Hades mine And though I still love you like the wine so dear The demise of Demosthenes looms near On a Sicilian Isle the Mediterranean breezes blow Across the vineyards we used to know I hear the voice of Demosthenes somewhere in time And though gone, Desiree will always be mine
a` perte de vue
The billowing clouds foretold our fate As homeward we sailed toward Heaven's gate The angry sea had changed its song And of the predator and the prey something was wrong The fish in the hold had nothing now to fear But the men on the Ardenelle knew the end was near Their voyage had plied bounty from the ocean deep The crashing waves now were the god of the lives to keep The captain was the first to go Screaming and thrashing into the depths below As the Ardenelle listed helplessly on her side A journey ended and a dream died In a fishing village by the Atlantic sea Little Nelle says "Daddy come home to me" "For it is so dark and stormy outside And the waves so big,can the Ardenelle ride" John Arden was born in Boston in eighteen-fifty two A third generation deck hand who dreamed of having his own crew And with his wife Elizabeth through the years did well Soon will come the time the fish will be mine to sell The day his beloved daughter Nelle was born He finally had his own boat though sails tattered and torn And in a joy he could not quell He named it the Ardenelle For our family name oh so proud And our daughter who Heaven allowed Nelle often went with her Dad on his fishing quest Those were the times she remembered and loved the best The red morning sky and the sea so peaceful and calm An inspiration to the soul these waters balm The night is done and the sea is quiet once more She scans the horizion from this distant shore And through the trough of a gentle swell Looms Daddy's boat, the Ardenelle But closer it never comes to me It is out there. far as the eye can see An old woman sits among the boats by the fishing bay "My good woman, why are you here every lonely day Through the cold and the gloom Through the wind and storms that loom" Sadly she spoke"as long as there is a me The Ardenelle will never be free She sails these seas every day And here I await to show her the way But I know that long ago she met her fate When I was just a little girl she sailed through Heaven's gate But I can't let go, no matter how hard I try to let it be Because she is out there on the horizion as far as the eye can see" Nelle died last week and as they laid her to rest The sun broke through the clouds ending her life long quest She is now on the Ardenelle and I know it just can't be Do these eyes deceive or fool me Seaward I gaze beyond the morning haze And now on the clearest of days The Ardenelle is at long last free She has sailed beyond far as the eye can see
MY RAINBOW
Once upon a time when the world was very young Every one had a purpose and a song to be sung In those days souls were divided by two One for me and one for you There was just so much love we needed a double For the good times.the bad times and times of trouble As the world grew old and people grew vain This flower lost its blossom and began to wane The essence of Love was to many just a game And one day in the book I saw my name I had become cold and cynical just like them Loving myself and pleasing my every whim The souls given once were twain Mine was dying for no Love's rain Then a strange and wonderful wind began to blow And for what reason I will never know The sky began to clear and the flowers began to grow And down in the valley where the rivers flow Beyond the crested hills lay a beautiful rainbow And it never seems to go away Even on the cloudy and rainy day Because you see we are joined once again by fate And the soul that drifted for a million years has finally found its mate The body once poisoned by the Devil's dart Now has a rainbow that resides in his heart No one knows what lies ahead A briars patch or lovely rosebed And oceans and miles may see us far away The rainbow you gave me is here to stay
SELADORA
My soliloquy with the sea swept the tide rushing in And it spoke to me with a roaring din Of the long ago time when this story I wrote Of the harpsichord maiden's golden note On yonder placid shore whose music dries all thine tears And the tune is the tide that killed my years With the fauna and the flora When first I eyed Seladora Mystic ile how long must I live These tides that once took you to me Are now the eddies of Seladora's spell Gone are the flowers of the bluebell And the gull's cry is forever no more Thus ends my story on that distant shore The tide ebbs and my journey is done Seladora smiles and love has lost her son On this solemn ilse in a land remote The life I lived Seladora wrote
LOTUS LAND
The withered whetstones lay silent testimony to the gems of my memory Efferently cast to the lodestone that was the demimondes democracy Inhabited on this pulchritudinous Isle The dust from yesterday's smile Falls silently through my hand As the golden orb welcomes me to lotus land The lilies sang and dance for me While the albatrosses fly the sea The nomadic stardust that once was mine Is now bottled and will no longer shine Given to greed by the rich man's heir Driven to lotus land where I no longer care The lilies are the alchemist of old And the lotus fill my mind with gold Manumit am I and alone to dream The reservoir you filled is but a stream And the golden mare's-nest which I so eagerly sought Are but grains of the whetstones which you bought And scattered into the cosmic world far away Banished to lotus land forever I will stay Until the lily and the narcissus are in emollient bloom Then the stars are my journey from the departed Earth's womb And once again we meet and stand hand in hand Destined to be part of the cosmos lotus land
KATHY'S STAR
When I was young my grandfather told me a story About the stars in Heaven and some of their glory He said when you die just to make things right God lights a candle in Heaven and this makes a star shine bright As I sit tonight with a tear in my eye A bright star appears in the late summer sky A voice from an angel whispers to me This is Kathy's star and it will shine for eternity We know you love and miss her so much And if only once again we could touch The ways of the world are strange and hard to understand But be of comfort ,Kathy is in a better land And the light you see tonight Is the love she holds so tight And the lamp of love will never dim It will shine forever Tonight she belongs to him
Kathy Lynn Schied departed this world August 14th,1987.She was born June 1st,1958.We will always miss her.
DOVER
The dormat branches yearn for cover As the lonely bird watches the lover Embrace his sweetheart under snow fields of clover The years return to long ago when First they met in England's Dover Ravaged by war and time it all seems so hollow What must he think, the swallow Why is he looking so sad Is it the cold or a mate he never had The wind blows and the branches move Paris is great in the springtime,so is the Louvre Some of her still lives there In city streets fair And hideaways rare Tree laden paths and morning air Snow falls and the bird flys away White hides the grave and gray hides the day The swept plains diminish my dream Fire dying to a fading gleam The sweetest voice I have heard Is it the grave or the bird Is it Paris or Dover Or just memories when green was the clover Go away swallow In pity I wallow Go find your mate Mine has met her fate Go and come back in the spring And with your love bring Memories of Dover Eternal spring, eternal clover
GORMAN,TEXAS
You must write about your hometown I'm told It must be expressive, sweeping and bold A place that changed your life and nutured your soul To put that little Texas hamlet in your mind is my goal A land of sky,sun and field where the peanuts grow A row that goes forever with me and my trusty hoe Cotton ball clouds that tease the starving grain With little tear drops that could have been rain Flour-sack shirts and feet without shoes Sometime a boy from Gorman had the blues Roaming the woods and creeks as a child We were like the deer that still run wild We had an outdoor pond in every wood And on a hot summer day it sure felt good Guys like Freddie Burns,CC Reeves and Ray Woodall Were always there and never had to call Fun was always around the corner anytime of day Whether you were hoeing peanuts or hauling hay Main street in Gorman would be something Norman Rockwell should paint Most of the town is boarded now and the memory is faint Then it had Bibby's,Shelly's,the King Theater and Jay's Grocery Store Pass Smith Bros,Chevrolet headed back to the school house door Back by the old Panter Grill Where a coke,a hamburger and the juke box was a thrill At the school where the Cubs and Panthers still play And some of my favorite teachers whom I remember today Ms Buchanan,Ms Gibbs and Ms Wilson back in the younger years Got me off to good start and quelled my fears Ms Green, our English teacher who gave us a ride in her new Buick the very first day And Mr.Hamrick who used to whip me a lot and show me the way Coach Byrd must have had some redeeming qualities and you will be the first to tell But I haven't come up with any in my little brain cell Mr.Worsham taught music or so I think I would still like to knock him on his ... and throw him in the drink Baze,Baird,Davenport and Ms Crenshaw Are some of memory's draw Mr.David Goodwin, girl's basketball coach I despised you then more than a roach Mr.Bramlett,God bless your soul I apologize here and now for the misery untold I wish I had listened to your wise counsel and the knowledge you imparted I would be so much closr to my destiny if only then had I started Thanks to Mrs.Reeves who somehow saw a ray of light And encouraged me for knowledge to fight And though I let you down then You will be happy someday when I tell you I went back to school And now I'm nobody's fool To all those teacher's on whom I've ragged and raved Thank you all for a soul you've saved You weren't there to be a friend But as I look down the row and see the end A new one starts and another one begins Far away in the field I can see Daddy on the tractor pulling the plow Mama's down by the barn milking the cow Thunder clouds in the distance storm'n Just beyond the horizon,my home town,Gorman!
THE ALABASTER CITY
Behold an alabaster city beyond the crimson shore The wretched disciples of agrarian lore Toiling mud dying spirits in the devil's bowl A cauldron menagerie of animal souls Thy symbolled crest is not thy own Bouffant adder thy sins are sown The dagger dies another wrong As the wind cries in mournful song "Oh alabaster city beyond crimson shore Why didst thou not open thy golden door" In torment are we the horsemen of defeat The Reaper sounds the trumpet of retreat In the city a light shines bright tonight Good has triumphed over the serpent's light For its illumination was just a darkness you see And only the golden door could make us free The shackles of hell no longer chain Thou life of misery is yesteday's refrain The fields grow fertile in men's souls divine And the alabaster city will forever shine
A POET
No honors ever given to man Mean anything to me They are like the windblown And shifting sands Hollow and without meaning Like the bones of yesterday's gleaning The title I hold dear to my heart Flows from from the one who gave me my start A poet,ah a poet ,no love,no life,a suffering wretch,a soul destined through out the years To see the happiness through the tears Pin my medal on me From some other levity Soon I am gone No one cares The silence hears It alone allays my fears You have meet the test I hold you in my breast As you die, GOD and I know it You were a poet!
And It Shall Blow No More
The wind of life blows silent and serene Midst my childhood dream I little note or revere The whispering melody of the bygone year The stormy crescendo in my heart would never still Though the wind murmured peace through those rocks and rill The war in my soul I could never kill Till I fall silent at Death's lonely door The wind of life shall blow again, nevermore
HMS HOOD
THE HOOD
In May of 1941 HMS Hood sailed through the channels of Plymouth Sound From Devonport Dockyard to a rendezvous with destiny nevermore to be found On the 24th of May in that fateful year The pride of the British Fleet died and all of England shed a tear 1400 and more met a watery grave By the grace of GOD the sea left 3 to save At 0552 AM HMS Hood opened fire on the German battleship Bismarck Two minutes later the battle of Denmark Strrait began and the World went dark At 0600 the Hood exploded and split in two Only three survived out of the entire crew On May 26th the carrier Ark Royal launched its Swordfish plane With torpedoes from the sky they did reign The mosquito stung the giant and without her rudder lost its way Adrift and helpless the Bismarck had become the prey May 27th saw the Royal ships, King George V Norfolk,Dorsetshire, and the Rodney very much alive Prepare to meet your Maker today The 1400 sailors seemed to say 2876 shells were fired at Bismarck and 400 found their way But the mighty ship refused to die on that fateful day The cruiser Dorsetshire stood ready after Admiral Tovey ordered cease fire Then came the command and with the firing of 2 torpedoes the Bismarck joined the Hood In the ocean's liar Some were rescued and live on today Germany and England are friends now And I think the men on the Bismarck and Hood would want it that way Home is the sailor
DUST
Stillness abounds as reality surrounds I come back to you one more time As the clock sounds the echoing chime Measured in thoughts of words that ryhme Not in hours or years that have marked my mind They live on forever for others to find Your destiny was my tomorrow And your yesterday was my sorrow Words full of love and grace Silent in the stillness of space And the stars on Earth that today shine Are just the remnants of the life that was mine
TIME PENNIES
If pennies were minutes and dimes were hours I'd spend them all on a bouquet of flowers But time can't buy roses And the question money poses It cannot give me the days for my garden to grow For time can be neither bought or sold The sand in the hour glass is really our gold And the dollars in our coffers are dead weeds in the cold I was born rich with years galore I have money now but I am poor Make my pennies minutes and my dimes hours Give me back the time to grow my flowers My money lives on when I depart the Earth And the gold in the hourglass turns to the dust I was worth
Come
Come and go with me Beyond the sea To a land I've seen Where you were Queen Our own little Brigadoon Every month is June The meadows are full of butterflies And the roses on the hill kiss the clear blue skies There you will reign forever and a day Come and I'll show you the way Just close your eyes real tight And wish with all your might You will smell the salty air A butterfly will caress your hair The roses will wave in the wind I'll be waiting around the bend Come and go with me To a land across the sea
HANDS
As you pass by for that last farewell Hold back the tears for I have a story to tell It is not of great deeds or farawy lands Snowcapped mountains or desert sands But clasped upon my lifeless breast Jewels from God's treasure chest Touch them one more time before I go The music is playing I want you to know I hope you and everyone understands The journey would have been different without these hands Oh these hands that I once held you with These hands that created fantasy and myth That embraced our baby girl That brightened our boy's world At the end of a long long day On my knees to Heaven I would pray Of all the senses that mean so much None are sweeter than hands that touch A kiss may burn with flames of passion But the gentle glow of entwined hands is eternity's fashion I thank you for all those joys rare And for all those hands that care Wiping a tear from a child's eye Or soothing a baby's cry A million uses for loving and giving To make a life worth living I can't wait to play in those faraway lands Touch me one more time with your loving hands
On The Banks Of Galway Bay
Oh take me back to Connaught Where dreams are sold and bought In Western Ireland where the wind has its way And a moon like you have never seen on Galway Bay I go to this place searching for seeds of my birth And I never returned for what it is worth The sadness that surrounded my girth Is somehow replaced with laughter and mirth And the reason why Is neither sun or sky But they were all part of that day When I first met you on the banks of Galway Bay It's hard to put into words but I'm going to try It's like your life is destined until you die And you know you are never going to be famous or rich The years go by and it matters not which They are all about the same In a predestined game You struggle and you try Babies are born and old people die Cynicism was my brand Get what you take and take what you can I'm really at a loss as what to say My life was changed that night on the banks of Galway Bay I guess I could blame it on the moon or how you looked that night I was always out to get everything I could If you got hurt well then maybe you should But somehow I didn't feel that way about you I looked at your eyes as the wind blew through This fool lost his heart what more can I say When I kissed you 'neath the moon on the banks of Galway Bay It's not about money, prestige, power or worth Those things are just folly for the lonely on Earth Until you can hold love in your hands and feel it in your heart Those material things are like a dart A poison arrow in a body that will never grow It happened to me and why I'll never know Maybe it was just luck of the Irish or a four leaf clover A leprechaun, that little Irish elf, that mischievous rover Whatever the reason I don't question it I'm proud to say I found my Heaven on Earth On the Emerald Isle on the banks of Galway Bay
THE RAVEN BY EDGAR ALLEN POE
Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary, Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore, While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping, As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door. "'Tis some visitor," I muttered, "tapping at my chamber door- Only this, and nothing more." Ah, distinctly I remember it was in the bleak December, And each separate dying ember wrought its ghost upon the floor. Eagerly I wished the morrow;- vainly I had sought to borrow From my books surcease of sorrow- sorrow for the lost Lenore- For the rare and radiant maiden whom the angels name Lenore- Nameless here for evermore. And the silken sad uncertain rustling of each purple curtain Thrilled me- filled me with fantastic terrors never felt before; So that now, to still the beating of my heart, I stood repeating, "'Tis some visitor entreating entrance at my chamber door- Some late visitor entreating entrance at my chamber door;- This it is, and nothing more." Presently my soul grew stronger; hesitating then no longer, "Sir," said I, "or Madam, truly your forgiveness I implore; But the fact is I was napping, and so gently you came rapping, And so faintly you came tapping, tapping at my chamber door, That I scarce was sure I heard you"- here I opened wide the door;- Darkness there, and nothing more. Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there wondering, fearing, Doubting, dreaming dreams no mortals ever dared to dream before; But the silence was unbroken, and the stillness gave no token, And the only word there spoken was the whispered word, "Lenore!" This I whispered, and an echo murmured back the word, "Lenore!"- Merely this, and nothing more. Back into the chamber turning, all my soul within me burning, Soon again I heard a tapping somewhat louder than before. "Surely," said I, "surely that is something at my window lattice: Let me see, then, what thereat is, and this mystery explore- Let my heart be still a moment and this mystery explore;- 'Tis the wind and nothing more." Open here I flung the shutter, when, with many a flirt and flutter, In there stepped a stately raven of the saintly days of yore; Not the least obeisance made he; not a minute stopped or stayed he; But, with mien of lord or lady, perched above my chamber door- Perched upon a bust of Pallas just above my chamber door- Perched, and sat, and nothing more. Then this ebony bird beguiling my sad fancy into smiling, By the grave and stern decorum of the countenance it wore. "Though thy crest be shorn and shaven, thou," I said, "art sure no craven, Ghastly grim and ancient raven wandering from the Nightly shore- Tell me what thy lordly name is on the Night's Plutonian shore!" Quoth the Raven, "Nevermore." Much I marvelled this ungainly fowl to hear discourse so plainly, Though its answer little meaning- little relevancy bore; For we cannot help agreeing that no living human being Ever yet was blest with seeing bird above his chamber door- Bird or beast upon the sculptured bust above his chamber door, With such name as "Nevermore." But the raven, sitting lonely on the placid bust, spoke only That one word, as if his soul in that one word he did outpour. Nothing further then he uttered- not a feather then he fluttered- Till I scarcely more than muttered, "other friends have flown before- On the morrow he will leave me, as my hopes have flown before." Then the bird said, "Nevermore." Startled at the stillness broken by reply so aptly spoken, "Doubtless," said I, "what it utters is its only stock and store, Caught from some unhappy master whom unmerciful Disaster Followed fast and followed faster till his songs one burden bore- Till the dirges of his Hope that melancholy burden bore Of 'Never- nevermore'." But the Raven still beguiling all my fancy into smiling, Straight I wheeled a cushioned seat in front of bird, and bust and door; Then upon the velvet sinking, I betook myself to linking Fancy unto fancy, thinking what this ominous bird of yore- What this grim, ungainly, ghastly, gaunt and ominous bird of yore Meant in croaking "Nevermore." This I sat engaged in guessing, but no syllable expressing To the fowl whose fiery eyes now burned into my bosom's core; This and more I sat divining, with my head at ease reclining On the cushion's velvet lining that the lamplight gloated o'er, But whose velvet violet lining with the lamplight gloating o'er, She shall press, ah, nevermore! Then methought the air grew denser, perfumed from an unseen censer Swung by Seraphim whose footfalls tinkled on the tufted floor. "Wretch," I cried, "thy God hath lent thee- by these angels he hath sent thee Respite- respite and nepenthe, from thy memories of Lenore! Quaff, oh quaff this kind nepenthe and forget this lost Lenore!" Quoth the Raven, "Nevermore." "Prophet!" said I, "thing of evil!- prophet still, if bird or devil!- Whether Tempter sent, or whether tempest tossed thee here ashore, Desolate yet all undaunted, on this desert land enchanted- On this home by horror haunted- tell me truly, I implore- Is there- is there balm in Gilead?- tell me- tell me, I implore!" Quoth the Raven, "Nevermore." "Prophet!" said I, "thing of evil- prophet still, if bird or devil! By that Heaven that bends above us- by that God we both adore- Tell this soul with sorrow laden if, within the distant Aidenn, It shall clasp a sainted maiden whom the angels name Lenore- Clasp a rare and radiant maiden whom the angels name Lenore." Quoth the Raven, "Nevermore." "Be that word our sign in parting, bird or fiend," I shrieked, upstarting- "Get thee back into the tempest and the Night's Plutonian shore! Leave no black plume as a token of that lie thy soul hath spoken! Leave my loneliness unbroken!- quit the bust above my door! Take thy beak from out my heart, and take thy form from off my door!" Quoth the Raven, "Nevermore." And the Raven, never flitting, still is sitting, still is sitting On the pallid bust of Pallas just above my chamber door; And his eyes have all the seeming of a demon's that is dreaming, And the lamplight o'er him streaming throws his shadow on the floor; And my soul from out that shadow that lies floating on the floor Shall be lifted- nevermore! by Edgar Allen Poe
Incorporeal
Can you imagine the absence of life on Earth Where there is no dying or birth Of any creature or thing to bring forth living No plants, annimals,or trees for giving No lichen or moss,no water or streams No sky or beautiful sunbeams No anything,no existence at all No good to strive for or evil to fall It was once this way eons ago Though it is hard to understand and know Then the most wonderful thing occurred Earth was born and life was heard A great dichotomy came into being On this world we were seeing Such beauty and goodness we couldn't understand So much Love seemed to fill the land But from the moment of creation I think We were not satisfied just out of the cup to drink Thus was born Evil and Good And for thousands of years it has stood We know not where it ends Maybe on each of us it depends Perhaps a million acts of collective kindess Will equal a evildoers blindess The scales are lilting On our shoulders rest the tilting In that final tug of war For whom will you be for The only thing easier than doing nothing is being nothing now That is so easy like before the world came into being It was all dark and there was no seeing Now the blind with pure hearts can see But is it enough, will we ever be free We are so fortunate to be one grain of sand in the hourglass To have existed, lived, loved, and cried And leave something to our children before we died Someday it will all be gone and I can tell The Earth is no more, incorporeal
You Can Do Much Better Than That
I was just snot nose kid in the second grade I never felt like I had it made I was scared of the teacher though I tried my best Every day seemed like some kind of test I always wondered why I had so many problems and it was so hard to get by Everyone else was laughing and inside I would cry One day the teacher asked us to draw a picture, that was her command I drew a dog, thinking"this is the best I can" She went by each student praising their talent galore Then she looked at mine and said "Oh,you can do so much more" "Your dog looks more like a cat" "You can do much better than that" Needless to say what little ego I had left me then Failure was my twin I was scared to death of girls Though I did like their curls And somehow I knew they were sweet Like candy you might eat I first fell in love with a girl of ill repute I was singing but the world was mute No one seemed to care I was in love They didn't know this girl was a gentle dove "Oh you can do so much more" "She is just a hoar" " You don't know where you are at" "You can do much better than that' I knew she was a diamond just waiting for the polish But it is so much easier to admonish Listen to the chorus sing Listen to the words they bring Are you listening, can you hear The hell with them, another beer I guess some one is always judging you "Are you USDA prime my dear" "Don't answer, the reply I fear" "I'll marry you anyway,I guess I love you" " I can't draw a stick man or dog" " But I love you like the night loves the fog" " I know we will make it though the lean times and there will be fat "God, gone at last was my life's mantra" "You can do so much better than that" "I died last night and everybody cried" "At the funeral they said how hard I'd tried" " I had a good a farewell and everyone went on living" "It was done for me,no more taking or giving" I had always heard about the Pearly Gates up in Heaven If yeast was leaven God,help this crumb of bread to rise I know I don't belong here, to my surprise He looked at me and said " As long as your fellow man suffer Never lie in bed And have a peaceful sleep Let it trouble you for you have a promise to keep" I cried because I'd never heard love like this It was like the scarlet love I used to kiss She was nobody and I loved her I was no body and God loved me For the first time in my life I was free I couldn't see God but upon his knee I had a feeling I sat Like a little snot nose kid in the second grade hiting a home run at bat He said Love will let you sleep here like the desert wanderer slept here in an imagined bed of mat I go back to my to my dog drawing And I see a donkey hee-hawing All the leaders.parents, and teachers on Earth So much is asked of your worth Most of you do the best you can And no more should be asked than That which you do trapping the rat Never again will I hear " You can do much better than that"

MOM
She is gone and I feel so sad Our beloved Mother,oh what a family she had But I'll not cry,she wouldn't want me to For her world was not dark Her sky was always blue And she had more than enough love to see us through Ever good deed I've ever done Ever good thought I've ever had Came from the one that called me son Surely she came from God above Not even an Angel gave this much love I could search the world over and never find another One so gentle, sweet and kind as our Mother
ONE ROSE
My flowers grow in the garden or wild on Nature's hills I see them in the springtime from my window sills All to soon they are gone like the seasons that bore them Fickle and fleeting like the Lover's whim But there is one flower that knows no time or season It grows in the soil of love and you are the reason Unitil death do us part You will always be the one Rose of my heart MOM

I first met Rachel when she was twenty two It was love at first sight,I guess we both knew We would walk by the river and I would hold her hand Music was always playing and nowhere was a band The song of love was in our heart and we knew we could not tarry Before the first rose of spring I asked her to marry A girl sweeter than honeysuckle perfume in the wind She was now mine and mine alone,Rachel Bend The gods of love have surely smiled on me I thought But nothing had prepared me for the heartache I had bought Our daughter Leigh was born that winter when it was oh so cold When I first held her in my arms I knew I had my gold She looked like her mother and it made me so proud Thank you God,I said with head bowed I could never ask for anything more Two beautiful ladies I will always adore The times were tough back in those days And it was hard to get by but we found the ways Leigh started walking before she was two She would follow her Mom down to the creek wearing one shoe They would work in the little garden plot I had made That's one of my favorite memories of them as I sit here in the shade "Daddy,Daddy! Look at all the squash and corn The tomatoes are ripe and we will pick the peas in the morn" "That's my baby, daughter of Rachel Bend Sweeter than honey and softer than the wind" That's the song I would sing to her as I put her to bed each night I'd watch her drift off to sleep clutching her dolly tight Leigh grew into a beautiful child The image of her mother sweet and mild And I never had no regret, not one I couldn't defend For falling in love with Rachel Bend Then one day the sun stopped shining and it began to rain I never knew my heart could have so much pain I came home one day and Rachel and Leigh were no longer there I looked and looked and finally at a note I did stare " It breaks my heart to do this to you But I have found another I love more true He means the world to me,goodbye from Rachel and Leigh" My hands started shaking real bad and I bit my lip so hard it bled I took a solemn oath that night when I said "Woman, woman I'll hunt you to the ends of the world I can live with you betraying my trust but you shouldn't have took my baby girl" I hunted her for years and one day I found A little girl that looked like Leigh playing in the park playground And she was singing a song I used to sing long ago A song from a daddy to a daughter he loved so "That's my mommy, daughter of Rachel Bend Sweeter than honey and softer than the wind" I asked her where her mommy was and she started to tremble and cry "She's up in Heaven with her Daddy is what Grandma says" she said with a tear in her eye Are you happy sweetheart I said "Yes,me and Nana have a garden full of squash and corn The tomatoes are ripe and we will pick the peas in the morn" I kissed her goodbye and walked away All the hatred and bitterness left me that day I am no longer going to kill Rachel Bend Who was once sweeter than the honeysuckle wind We do what we do and I guess on Destiny it depends I know Leigh is waiting and I can feel the love she sends In this life I loved Rachel Bend enough to marry But that is over,I'll not tarry Someone else waits for me Tonight I'll tuck you in bed,my darling Leigh
Innocence
Eden's Rose
There is a place in Texas where the wind blows A land of Mesquite trees and mistletoe A place I once knew well Half way between Heaven and Hell A shanty town called Eden where a flower grows Lived Maria,Eden's Rose Big brown eyes and teeth white as a cotton cloud Jet black hair and laughter oh so loud A lass so sweet and fair The angels paused to stare And just why I will never know God let me be Maria's beau We married in the spring of sixty nine My life fulfilled,Maria was mine As the years went by our family grew First two boys and finally Sue Who was the image of her mother We were complete.no need for another My fame and fortune grew with oil The years rewarded me for my toil My love for Maria was never so strong Then one day I came home and something seemed wrong The house was empty and on the mantle a note From Maria,to my darling husband she wrote Forgive me for what I do You see it is not your money I love but only you It kills me that we must part But the gold in the bank used to be in your heart And though you buy me flowers and fancy clothes I was richest when I was Eden's Rose The wind blew through the window sill As I stared listlessly at the wild flowers on the hill God waters them and they grow Unlike Maria too late I know I gave her everything but me Too late now at long last I see And without love my flower died The cotton clouds kissed the ground when they cried And watered the flowers that lie there with those Who are now in Heaven with Eden's Rose Good Bye Maria
Does It Make Any Sense
Does it make any sense To be on the fence Does the middle of the road Ever lighten the load Is the light in your eye From the tear in your cry Does the passion in your life Come from joy or strife Why do the church bells chime To the thunder clouds mime The wind blows the page As the rivers rage The book of dreams Torn by the streams Oceans of saline Bare the soul clean Mankind swept Vanquished tears wept The road crumbles The world tumbles Penance on a fence Does it make any sense t
The Sea
Dusk has claimed the day And the blue becomes pink The sea shifts and murmurs And it is of you I think Though you are gone and a memory When I am here, you are with me
Together we stand,I on the left, you on the right, Battered by Life's storms, together we fight, My branches are gone, thus am I, Soon you are alone under moonlit sky, Two trees that were as one together, The Earth is no more my tether, But solace can be found in this, Just because you are alone, nothing is amiss I have always been with you through calm and stormy weather And though I am gone,in my heart we will always be together

Clouds
Faces in the clouds, rain in the sky Is that you I see or a tear in my eye Steeds racing in the wind forever Searching for the spirit of my lover I'll find you someday beyond the horizon far away Above the clouds where there is no day Where our spirits meet to light the way Faces in the clouds,.rain in the sky That rain drop was a tear from your eye For a lost love a spirit even cries And the clouds roll on as Heaven sighs Spirit of the Winds Love never ends
YOSEMITE
Yosemite is a favorite spot of mine With azure skies that angels sign Clouds so high and far away Touching the peaks on a sun-kissed day Yosemite Falls is a fascinating sight When the water cascades from its towering height El Capitan is oh so grand God made a rock like this in no other land Camp Curry in the mist is so sublime Its rustic cabins amid the pine With Glacier Point like a fortress in time And in the distance looms Half-Dome Calling me as a Mother to home And the Merced,Angel of Mercy smiles at me If only all the world could see This beautiful creation called Yosemite Maybe war would end And your enemy would be your friend For if you love something it makes life worth living And if you are happy, taking isn't near the joy of giving That is why God gave us Yosemite to soothe our soul A piece of Heaven on Earth until he calls the roll So thank you Father for letting me Spend a little time in Heaven, here at Yosemite
Tomorrow The mystic chants his mantra and it reminds me of you and I A voice going nowhere and it make me sigh The dead dreams of yesterday collide with my tomorrow An it feels me with regret of sadness and sorrow My life has always been full of good intentions I have to say But lets not start today Give me tomorrow to learn the dance You know I want to succeed given the chance What's the hurry another day I may borrow I can't wait to start tomorrow We are both old and gray now And it all seems kind of silly somehow The kings jester only played a fool Because he knew he did not rule The mimicry he created was not real A fat king's laugh he could steal But I am left with the sinking sun of today Kowing that tomorrow has its own way And all those things that were so much fun Got in the way of things that needed to be done Alas,be it sacrifice or sin I won't get the chance to do it again That's all right,I have no regrets or sorrow My fortune is read in the tarot For I have no more tomorrows
Threnody Lane
Sometimes late at night my sleepless spirit may roam And often times it takes me back to my old mountain home Where the wild blueberry vines climbed the cottonwood trees And the clouds smiled as they flew by on the summer breeze The river far below as it makes its winding bend Past the aspen grove and the meadow's end 'Twas there neath the golden sunset's wane First I saw you coming down Threnody's Lane "Where are you from" I asked.quite taken back She just smiled and took some fruit from her sack " Have some" she said."partake of the apple sweet and red" As I ate the bounty from the tree "May I inquire what your name might be" Her lips moved as she said with a gentle sigh "No name, brand,or title have I" 'I am yours to love and yours to give" "Only through you may I live" "So you can have me now and for many a year" "But the day you stop loving me I disappear" "The fruit I gave you came from the tree and the vine" 'But the love you give me must be of another kind" 'It must come from your soul and your mind" "The choice is yours and yours alone" "I pass this way only once and then I'm gone" I awoke restless from my dream With my pillowed covered face uttered a muffled scream "Oh no,Lady Love visited me last night and she was you" "Now you both are gone, what am I to do" Look closely down the meadow as the summer sunsets wane A sad and lonely man searches Threnody's Lane
River of Regret
The river of regret runs through a forest of trees As the spirit of my mind wanders with the breeze Harken back to times of olden When we were young and golden The river was wild and so were we And I thought it would always be The river is dying and our days are ending The leaves are falling and winter is descending You are gone like the golden sunset And the tears of sorrow fill the river of regret
Solitude
In the still of this place with my thoughts I reconcile
And vow my love for you is all erstwhile
The sadness in my heart is a price for the toll
On the road I travelled with you that scarred my soul
Alone I am on this day
But I feel no loneliness,only a ray
Of hope and peace, not the heart you wooed
Oh glorious blessing,solitude
The Wolf And The Angel
I had this dream and it never went away And It haunted me night and day Of a wolf and an angel on a mountain high And wispy clouds shimmering in a orange burnt sky The wolf is howling as she sits by his side And gazes into the horizons wide Why does the wolf cry every night And what is she looking for just out of sight I had this dream for many a year And then I dreamt it became clear I was the wolf and I was crying for my love true I was crying for you You were the Angel and you were looking for me After all these years you again I see Sometimes on a cold dark night You may hear a wolf cry beneath the pale moonlight And the wind you feel on your face May be from a faraway place A residue of memories stirred by an Angel's flight I have climbed to the stairsteps of Heaven's height And the dream I dreamed so often has suddenly died The day the wolf no longer cried
A Butterfly And The Rose
A butterfly had a rendezvous with the rose Now she is wearing its clothes A bud blossomed into a flower The catepillar had its hour Now it has sprouted its wings To enjoy the beauty that life brings All of us are a little part of something I suppose A butterfly is a little part of a rose Colors don't have to be static and that is why God made the beautiful butterfly You will always be a part of me and I suppose That's why God made you a rose And now I've sprouted wings To enjoy the beauty that life brings And happiness is the color of my clothes Since the butterfly rendezvoused with the rose
One Of Our Men Is Missing
The day is coming and it won't be long When he will be singing a different song Now he has always ridiculed aliens and little green men And laughed at others at others when They said that there is a slim possibility they may exist Well I've checked with my sources and here's a new twist My little buddies are coming real soon And they are not flying by to get some cheese off the moon Their mission is very important but boy it sure made me laugh Tears ran down my eyes and I almost had a calf What could be so funny you may ask And why do you say it will be a daunting task Well you know how he doesn't believe in the tooth fairy, elves or Santa Claus He's going to have a hard time dealing with what's going to happen, cause They have come to take him today From travelling many light years away It is a joyous occasion for all of us and especially me For I know at long last he will be free I will bid him a happy goodbye and try to keep a straight face When he finds the true orgins of his race They will probably have to bind him up real tight And getting him aboard ship will really be a sight He will be screaming, crying, and looking so sad But the punch line of the ages wil give me the best laugh I ever had When they smile and say " relax,we are going home Dad".
They Came From The Sea
They came from the sea The riderless horses of the Cherokee You have killed our brethren along with your fears But their spirit did not die on the Trail of Tears You can never kill it no matter how you try Some things are eternal Like the wolf howl and the eagle cry We come to return you to your rightful place To the skyward land where the Great Spirit shows his face To a land where the prairie grass still grows tall And the wagon trains never call Where the buffaloes are so many you can't count them And the river flows on forever beneath the canyon rim Where it will take all your sorrow and tears to the sea And cleanse you and make you free The prairie grass is dead and the buffalo is gone No more graze the deer and her fawn The Indian brave and his love never again will roam This beautiful land they called home As my future meets my past My goodbye is my last As the thundering hoofbeats of history come for me Oh riderless horses of the Cherokee Take me to the sea
Seasons
In my dream quest I often fly To other times and seasons When the wolf was young And Love needed no reasons It was free like an eagle on the fly Never to be stolen or lost To be with us till we die The wolf is gone and love has died The dew on the mountain high Are just tears where the eagle cried And the seasons we knew Are gone like the wolf And the sky so blue I will find you once again in my dream Once again to hear the eagle scream And the lone wolf cry To find the Love that was free Together you and me I know God has his reasons And we will always have our seasons
Miscellaneous
When I was a little girl they took me away for something I did bad I was young and it made me very sad They took me to a home and opened my file Though you are young and only a child We have to put you in a category and we know you are not dangerous We will put you in the column, miscellaneous I lived there for many years Hiding the sorrows and tears Today in the world's eyes I am adored and idolized But for all my power and glory I'll always remember when I was placed in a category With a problem that had no name And black and white made grey the game Don't ever, ever,no matter what my sin Call me miscellaneous again
A Poem For Denise
Why does she like rainbows and pictures she draws Well it's just, well it's just because Why does she want to live in a land where fairies make the laws Well it's just, well it's just because Why is her favorite movie still The Wizard of Oz Well it's just, well it's just because And why do I think she is the best and always was Well it's just,it's just because
I Believe
I believe that fairies can dance on the head of a pin And all things are possible when You believe nothing can stop you or get in your way To see your dream someday It is with resolve and steely will That all can dance and feel the thrill It is never having tried why I grieve For those lost souls that never did believe
And So It Goes
And so it goes Yesterday's seeds are tomorrow's rose Nothing ever really dies Except hate and lies Love lives forever Like an eternal river Winding its way to the sea Carrying a bit of you and me We arrive when our life ends We are the water the river sends We evaporate into the sky And become a teardrop in someone's eye Or maybe a raindrop in God's loving soil To bring new life in a garden of toil And the flower once again becomes a rose So it goes
I Was Ten And You Were Eight
I am lying here and they tell me I am going to die My life is over and here is the reason why I don't listen to their blather,it is just a waste I am drinking from another cup, with a different taste I am no longer going forward,I am going back To my childhood where memories never lack And I am at peace no matter the hour be late Because once again I am ten and you are eight I never thought of you as a girl Though you always had that curl You were someone I could talk to About frogs, butterflies, and the sky so blue About what we would be when we grew up Between kissing our cats and chasing our pup I thought the whole world would be honest and good like you But when I grew up I found that was not true The flowers you had planted I had taken for granted And I was oh so wrong I heard your song But I chose another path Now I face Life's wrath " Catch me,catch me if you can" I'd go like the wind ,how fast I ran I would tackle you in a pile of leaves and dust And make you say "uncle' or "In God We Trust" You would get real mad and then you would smile Punch me in my belly and run for a mile The days seemed like they would never end Kind of like the river beyond the bend Something that flowed gentle and kind Like your heart and mind "kids, come home",your mom would yell We could hear it a mile away echo through the dell I would pretend to say goobye and playfully shake her hand Then I would pinch her on the nose and say "catch me,catch me if you can" "What were you saying Doctor,I'm dying when" Don't bother me with your words I have already moved on To another place When you were eight and I was ten
Cathedral of Illusion
The Princess of Delusion Waits at the door To the Cathedral of Illusion A voice softly echoes off the wall Enter my dear I am at your beck and call I will be your Prince and you will be my bride So come on in Upon my steed we will ride To faraway lands where kingdoms I claim The world will be yours And renown will be your name You will reside on the golden throne In a castle in the sky Where only love is known Not too long my Love can you wait Time is of the essence Fate will close the gate The cold wind blows through the night And the moon disappears behind the clouds Love has lost its light As the Princess of Delusion Sadly walks away From the Cathedral of Illusion
Little Bear River
There is a river in northeastern Arizona
Beyond where the mountains kiss the snow
In this setting flows a gentle stream called Little Bear
Where a papoose was born near the cubs lair
He grew up and became their friend
And they cared one for another like the eagle loves the wind
They loved to swim and fish in the river all throughout the year
This was a land of paradise where they had no fear
Little Bear knew only his family and tribe
His people told stories so there was no need for a scribe
I heard this story many years ago
And for its truthfulness I will never know
Little Bear belonged to the Hopi
A group as serene as the twilight sky
The name means " the peaceful little ones or the peaceful people
They have no church but nature is their spire and steeple
They are very spiritual and religion dominates their life
A woman is respected as a mother and a wife
Little Bear on the day he was born
As was the custom of his time
Received a special blanket and a perfect ear of corn
On the 20th day they took him to the mesa cliff and held him toward the rising sun
As it struck him they gave him his name,a thing of beauty had been done
He grew into a man and many prophecies and warnings were passed on to him
Signs from ancient rock pictographs and tablets of old
Of the Hopi Blue Star instead of the white man's gold
This prophecy says "When the Blue Star Kachina makes its appearance in the heavens, the Fifth World will emerge".
Then a new era is on the verge
This will be the Day of Purification,a long awaited day
And it has to do with space far away
The Hopi name for the star Sirius is Blue Star Kachina if you are willing to ask
It will come when the Saquasohuh (Blue Star) Kachina dances in the plaza and removes his mask. Little Bear gave this to me in a dream
He knew I was a kindred sprit, not part of the white man's scheme
This is the First Sign: We were told of the coming of the white-skinned men, like Pahana, but not living like Pahana -- men who took the land that was not theirs and who struck their enemies with thunder. (Guns)
When I heard this one I was saddened at what we had wrought on our Native sons
This is the Second Sign: Our lands will see the coming of spinning wheels filled with voices. (Covered wagons going west)
I thought of Manifest Destiny being put to the test
Little Bear said 'Need I tell you more"
" Yes" I replied "its hard to bear but truth will open the door"
This is the Third Sign: A strange beast like a buffalo but with great long horns, will overrun the land in large numbers. (Longhorn cattle)
They have killed the sacred ones who could do no battle
This is the Fourth Sign: The land will be crossed by snakes of iron. (Railroad track)
Once this happens you will never go back
This is the Fifth Sign: The land shall be criss-crossed by a giant spider's web. (Power and telephone lines)
"Little Bear" I said "how many more signs"
I was growing weary
He continued to speak of a future bleak and dreary
This is the Sixth Sign: The land shall be criss-crossed with rivers of stone that make pictures in the sun. (Concrete roads and their mirage-producing effect)
They have built their altars with shimmering cities to material gods they elect
This is the Seventh Sign: You will hear of the sea turning black, and many living things dying because of it. (Oil spills)
When I thought of the death it had brought it gave me the chills
This is the Eighth Sign: You will see many youth, who wear their hair long like our people, come and join the tribal nations, to learn our ways and wisdom. (Hippies, known were they)
I realized he was speaking of my day
And this is the Ninth and Last Sign: You will hear of a dwelling-place in the heavens, above the earth, that shall fall with a great crash. It will appear as a blue star. Very soon after this, the ceremonies of the Hopi people will cease.
The life you have lived is on a tenuous leash
"Little Bear" I cried " Is it better that I be dead"
Then these were the last words he said
"These are the Signs that great destruction is here: The world shall rock to and fro. The white man will battle people in other lands - those who possessed the first light of wisdom. There will be many columns of smoke and fire such as the white man has made in the deserts not far from here. Those who stay and live in the places of the Hopi shall be safe. Then there will be much to rebuild. And soon, very soon afterward, Pahana will return. He shall bring with him the dawn of the Fifth World. He shall plant the seeds of his wisdom in our hearts. Even now the seeds are being planted. These shall smooth the way to the Emergence into the Fifth World".
These things have long past
How much longer can man be,how much longer can he last
Little Bear is just a memory who lived on the mesas beyond the plain
But the eagle still flies above the River that bears his name
In the land where the dust devils grow and the howling winds whirl
Will Little Bear ever see the dawning of his Fifth World
A thousand snow flakes make a drop of water
To make the river flow for food and fodder
A million thoughts are seeds for words to grow
And I think Little Bear would want you to know
We are all part of that tree of life
We can chop it down with an axe or cut it with a knife
Take what we need, maybe a sliver
Then we will see a reflection of goodness as seen through the eye of an eagle
And there will be hope for all of us
A message from the land of the Little Bear River
Lady WaterFall
I have journeyed far and wide over continents galore Seen all the seven seas and knocked on Heaven's door Traveled the world and thought I'd seen it all Until that day in the jungle I saw Lady Waterfall I was lost on a path of many a turn and twist When I came upon a clearing and saw the mist Rising from the jungle floor and flowing from a mountain tall Was a sight I'd never seen or could ever recall I have seen most of these cascading wonders from all over the world But this one took my breath for out of this one flowed a girl She just stood there with a serene look on her face She was part of the water and part of this place I was dying from thirst but I knew I had long last found my love true "Come back with me to civilization" I said. "We will go to Paris and be wed The world will be our oyster and you will be its pearl Leave this strange place with me and come and be my girl" At long last she spoke and her voice was music to my ears "I'll go with you kind sir " she said with eyes full of tears "But first you must drink of this pool at my feet And when you do the truth you will meet This liquid that flows through me is not water at all But tears from lovers who lost and never heard the call Of Love true, penitent I for you.Lady Waterfall". I started to drink of the pool oh so blue Then I saw a reflection of you "Come dear sir if you love only me so grand Redeem your soul and we will leave this land". I turned and ran and wandered aimlessly for days Until one day I found myself out of the maze I am back with you now and I'm happy I guess I look back to that time for its true meaning and I must confess Did it really even happen and if so why Sometimes I give you a rose and it makes you cry Sometimes I kiss you at a dance or ball In the reflection of that tear I see, Lady Waterfall
Sometimes
Sometimes the world seems to stop, and things get still I don't feel like living anymore,I've lost the will To go on pretending that things are great Alas,it must end sooner or late. The wind blows through the willow trees The birds fly in the meadows and the honey awaits the bees God is in Heaven and I am on my knees Trying to understand what I am about to do Somewhere in the distance, I hear a voice and it is you. Between you and God what am I to do I lay on the floor and fall asleep Of thy biitter wine thou can keep The fruit of thy harvest is a but a heap Of memories buired deep I go there with them When the last rose of autumn dies And the hills are covered with snow When your heart no longer crys And life is devoid of reason and rhymes Think of me sometimes
The Mountains
My one and only true love that has always been there for me Are the mountains where I am free No matter the peaks I may roam In the mountains I am home Just me and God and nature's best Here I have ended my quest I have no questions or answers to ponder I have no need or urge to wonder If youth could come from fountains I know peace could come from mountains And though old as the ages, forever young For generations songs that are unsung When my journey in the valleys come to an end My spirit will be in the mountains like the wind Watching from the heights above Home at last with my own true love
A Better Way Of Living
There is a better way of living and I have found it There is a road of peace and I've been down it So often we struggle and fight And dwell in the valleys where there is no light And stumble because the path is not clear Our lives filled with anxiety and fear We are not the Master of the universe or the Captain of our soul As a mighty mountain to a little knoll There is something bigger than us I know Until we find it we will never grow It is so easy to do your part Look to Heaven and open your heart There is a better way of living and I have found it There is a road of peace and I've been down it
Be Yourself
How often we look at others and say I want to be like them someday Such poise, beauty and art Oh, to be like them fills my heart Adulation and praise will come to me Don't you see If I can be like you Oh God make it come true The Angel smiles and says oh you foolish child God loves you tender and mild He made you to be you out of one special mold He then destroyed it, for silver can never be gold And you wanting to be like another says to him he made a mistake I don't think he cries but it makes my heart ache We can take the knowledge of others and emulate We can choose love and do away with hate I have my heroes and those I admire Reading from a list I would never tire But the truth of the matter was determined by fate And no other in the world like you would rate Relish your uniqueness and celebrate If others want to be like you open the gate But don't ever sell yourself short A ship may stop in any far flung port But someday it comes back where it belongs Just like you,you can sing only your songs The worth of another opens many a door The soul of another goes to the core The Earth spins around the Sun away out in space God smiles because he knows we all have our place
The Old Corn Picker
I went back to the old home place yesterday In the back of the field where we used to play The stalks of the corn couldn't have been any thicker Stands a scrap heap of memories, the old corn picker Before Daddy bought it we had to pick it by hand Ear by ear,so weary by day's end we could hardly stand You and your family moved nearby and were the best neighbor's we ever had You started helping pick the corn and I didn't feel near as bad The days got shorter and time seemed to fly We shared many a story, sometimes we'd laugh, sometimes I'd watch you cry We used to wonder if Heaven was a big corn patch in the sky Row upon row that went on forever Where they had a machine to do the work with the touch of a lever One day it did come true Daddy bought a corn picker like we'd talked about,me and you God had been good about giving us rain from above It made the corn grow tall and something made us fall in love We got married that spring and something besides corn started to grow The first of three girls, wouldn't you know Who's going to drive the corn picker I said When I tucked the girls in at night all snug in their bed Daddy's starting to get old and doesn't have the fire he once had He will have to quit soon and it will be me and you alone We found him one day on the corn picker and realized he was gone We buried him there at the family plot on the farm Gone was a man who never did anyone harm Come harvest time every year it was like he was sitting there with me Diving the picker, talking about the weather and our daughters three They had loved him so much And it broke their hearts when he was no longer there to touch My girls carried a part of his spirit and it served them well Their Mom and them worked so hard all those years and I owe them so much I can never tell We not only grew corn,we grew love And I know Daddy is smiling down from up above The girls are all grown up now and in the city they live I have six grandsons now and I couldn't ask God for anymore to give But as I stand here looking at that old heap of memories with the tears getting thicker and thicker I'd trade all my tomorrow's for just one yesterday to be back with Daddy on that old corn picker Pick by hand he laughed,no never Gone Like Yesterday Still In My Memory
Lady Beware
Your past and future are intertwined and the ghosts of the past haunt you like the dead The spirits fill your soul with terror and it is life you dread The Devil has a grip on you like the hair on your head You can run but you can't hide for he is always there Flee my lovely, lady beware Into my arms where you will have not a care Your friend is not the grave The Devil has no right to your soul You should be so bold Come my sweet into my arms Kiss me and thrill me with your charms I watch from a distance and I know it is too late The Devil has sealed her fate Snared by pretending to love and care My call unheeded,Lady beware
I Wish I Was A Puppy
I wish I was puppy and had not a care in the world I wish I was a puppy and you were my pearl We 'd play by the pond and chase frogs And laugh at the folks who said the world was going to the dogs All in all maybe that wouldn't be too bad Cause you guys have made a mess of the world you've had And it will take more than a scoop to clean it up Let us start with the kind of love a child has for a pup And keep it in our hearts our whole life through Don't say it's "a dog eat dog world" for that's just not true For the love of man starts and ends with you And whether you choose good or evil from your cup Look at the puppy when he takes a sup Of kindness,he returns it tenfold May you be so loving and bold The honeycombs are awaiting in the forest logs The butterflies fill the meadows down by the bogs I wish I was a puppy and the world went to the dogs
My Knight
With this sword I dub thee oh my knight First in battle and first to fight You have proven yourself beyond reproach A warrior worthy to guard my coach And to protect me from the enemies of my land Bow no longer, face me and stand Many heeded the call but few were chosen The spring sun melts the snow land that was frozen And you have melted my heart that was once so cold I take your hand and give you my heart oh knight so bold You have taken my life and given me light I dub you lord of my love,my sweet knight
The Lady In Red
Why is the lady in red so blue Is it something I said or didn't do Is her sardonic stare For me or another not there She could be so lovely you know But somehow it just doesn't show I think I'll let her sulk and pout I really rather take you out She could change her clothes and that wouldn't matter to me Her disposition is the key The lady in red can stay blue I want to be with you Get ready to answer the phone You can color her gone
Blue Lady
Blue is the color of your eyes Though they change with your moods Blue is the color of the skies And they change when Nature deems Blue is the color of your life Except when you are in my dreams There you are radiant in all your gold From your hair to your soul Someday my dream will come true And your life will have no more blue Except in your sparkling eyes And springtime skies We will sail the oceans blue Together me and you On a lifetime happiness cruise With the color of love in all its hues And forget the times when Life was dark and shady When you were known as my blue lady
Table For One
The waiter smiles and says "table for two"
He sees in the pain in my eyes and says"oh it's only you"
I sit here alone drinking the wine
And remembering when you were mine
All those hideaways we used to go
The ocean walks and the dinner show
Lazy summer days in the park
Midnight swims in the dark
I'd laugh at some joke you said
While autumn leaves fell on my head
The snowman you built that year
That had an apple for a ear
The first time we tried to ski
And I almost hit that tree
The memories flow easy now
As I drink the wine I vow
To keep them close to my heart
For my book is closer to the end than the start
Those pages I'll always revere
When I held you near
What's past is past and what's done is done
I am sitting here thinking about you
At a table for one
Poems
Ocean Dance
The sea wind blows your love through the air I stand above the waves knowing you are there My arms reach out for your loving care I hear your voice as the spray embraces the pier And though faraway you seem so near I should go back to the ball where there is festivity galore But I am through with all that,I don't care anymore I'll dance with your spirit from the music of the ocean roar Rather than hold another on some ballroom floor The arms I hold outstretched tonight Will soon again hold you tight Oh blow wild and windy sea In my memory you will always be a part of me
My Friends And I
My friends and I chanced to go To a mystic land you would like to know No ticket, fare or admission needed there The flight you will take has no wings All you need is your imagination and those kind of things Two unicorns flying over a rainbow may be quite a sight But they are just a start of years with light I am poor but I am richer than I know I am old but the seeds of youth I still sow So I throw some to you foolish as it may seem You will always be young riding on a dream My friends and I sitting by the stream
Lighthouse On The Hill
There is a lighthouse upon the hill
Staring at the sea looking so still
It once guided ships when they were lost in the storm It is a lonely monument now sad and forlorn
We would climb to the top,oh we were so brave
Looking at miles of ocean wave after wave
Guiding the ships on journeys unknown
A beckon of light from days that are gone
I am old now just like you
We have outlived our usefullness I know it's true
You have lost your ships at sea
And my one and only love,I have lost thee
If you don't mind I will stay here with you for awhile
I still find solace in her smile That I remember like yesterday The wind blows and her voice seems to say Come down from your perch on high From the house in the sky That has saved many a rouge and knave From a watery grave I leave the house in the dead of night Searching for the love of my light Tossed and tortured by tempest storm beyond my will A light shines from the lighthouse on the hill A light stilled for many a year Now lit by one I hold dear As I take my last breath and surrender to the sea We are together again, you and me There are lights of many kinds The lighthouse on the hill only for us shines
The Wolf
You have killed my love, killed my brave I only have dreams now, that part I save Running Wolf was my heart,my being My reason for living,my eyes for seeing Without him it is dark and I am lost The wolf cries and I pay the cost He once told me he was part of them That memory I must dim Our love will no longer grow Death is like the eternal snow The seed can never come back Life moves on,a newborn joins the pack In my dreams I see Running Wolf so fair He is born again, full of boldness and dare Somehow he must find me again to be a man And leave the tracks in the snow where he once ran I cry out to him and pray he hears my calling I hear nothing but silent snow falling Th Great Spirit speaks to me " For Running Wolf to be free He must pass this test To prove he is worthy of your love He must shine as the stars above I will send you a thousand wolves to view If you know him,he will know you The light of Love shines bright And lights the darkest night" Running Wolf came first I had no doubt,he quenched my thirst It started to rain Gone was my pain Each drop was a drop of love Sent from above Running Wolf and I walked away Into another day Was it real or what it might seem I have a dream
The Gun And The Pen
I had lost it all From the top to the bottom I did fall It is not worth living I said I'd rather be dead To face this pain My loss was your gain Into the room I went to get my gun My sun has set,I've had my run Into the drawer I reached for the weapon of death Soon I would draw my last breath What I saw had to be from God and the person I had been My pistol and one lonely pen It was the one I used to write my poems to you I looked at those two objects and knew what I had to do I took the gun and threw it as far as I could And cursed the day I never understood With this pen I can change the world Though you are gone and will never be my girl This ink will flow like a river And make it all worthwhile People come and go But words last forever I love you
The Reflection
The reflection I see Is not of me But you Like the sky so blue And the mountains so white Your beauty is a sight Frozen in the timeless night And drenched in the sunlight of eternity A million miles away, yet a heartbeat from me

Tortured Soul
You were so pretty and so young The taste of honey was on your tongue Life was so beautiful and so sweet What happened when reality and dreams meet You never seemed to find your way Between the twilight of night and the dawn of day And the love you could have had you so carelessly gave away The fairytale life that once was your goal Is a faded and tarnished memory of a tortured soul The face you see in the mirror as you sadly gaze Is the portrait you have drawn and the price you pay Once a road is traveled its secrets are revealed Once a seed is planted it grows in the field The journey of your harvest manifests itself with thistles untold As I look beyond an endless chasm to a tortured soul I think of you when you were young And regret that your song was never sung
I"m Wearing White Pants For The Last Time On Sunday
It's been a good summer and most every day has been a fun day I've grown in mind and body and wisdom has come my way The seasons are the bench marks of time I've often heard you say The autumn time is a favorite of yours and mine The leaves turn yellow and the grapes ripen on the vine The days grow shorter and the nights are so fine When I think of you, autumn comes to mind In the winter the seeds lie frozen under Earth and snow Spring is like Hope,it may lie dormat for awhile but life just has to grow We love it in all its flowering glory And when it shakes hands with summer Many a girl and boy relive the story Of the golden days of yesteryear when life was sublime And for some magic reason experience once again Those wonderful moments that can only happen in the good old summer time I bid adieu to each wonderful season in a different way But the one you shared with me has so much poignancy I have to say It moved me to write this poem without thought of pay When you penned that wonderful line to tell summer it's ok To kiss him farewell and thank him for the sun and every warm ray To tell him goodbye in your own special way "I'm wearing white pants for the last time on Sunday"
So Are The Flowers To You
As water is to rain As blood is to pain As the sky is to blue So are the flowers to you A part and piece that makes You whole, though the years it takes No matter the length of the race The flowers bloom at their pace And the blood that man will foolishly shed Leaves the flowers blooming over their bed The lilies in their glory down in the valley and the roses on the hill Makes me weep because death is still Why couldn't our sky always be blue And our blood be as one with love forever true Destiny's tears kiss like the rose to the dew A sweet and gentle goodbye I go happy and I'll not cry I'll be waiting for you somewhere, someplace No matter the length of the race We will start life anew Like when the sky was blue You will envelope me as the bud holds the rose Until that special time it will unfold and Heaven knows My heart beats again like the blossoms of spring Your flowers once again make me sing As to love forever true So are the flowers to you
A DAY IN DECEMBER
Over looking the lake from a tree lined knoll The solitude and stillness fill my soul The boys in the distance throwing rocks Away from the world with its noise and clocks Time seems to stop here and it takes me back To days that will never lack Of memories,of days that went so fast Of days that have long past I sit here and look at he pale blue sky And smile at the sun trying to show his eye He,like me will sometimes sigh For it is winter for him too And his sky is not so blue We go back to the summer days When there was no winter haze Of days so long, the nights didn't have a chance The moon just smiled and the stars did their dance We would be skiing in the early morn On water so calm like it was just born Eggs and potatoes for breakfast tasted so good And for lunch hot dogs on a bun was understood We drank so much beer And had so much cheer We thought that was the way it would always be And it was for a long time I guess Until its gone you will never miss The twilights golden kiss And a dawn made just for you With the lake sparkling like dew The kids are all grown up now Most of them are doing good somehow I'm alot older than I think But I still like to visit the lake and have a drink If I look far enough out there I see my brother skiing From memories I am fleeing As the cold wind starts to blow And the ripples on the lake start to grow My grandkids down below sitting on the rocks Away from the world with its noise and clocks Feeding the gulls without a care in the world I realize now you don't need oysters to have a pearl Or nuggets to have gold No matter what you have been told And diamonds aren't the most precious gems It is the love of one another and Nature's hymns That I treasure most and with me I take Just me and the kids throwing rocks in the lake A day I will remember A day in December
WORDS
It comes to me like manna from Heaven Words mltiplied by seven And many score more They come to me gently through the door Of my mind and I welcome them with embraces sweet I think of them of a way with God I meet ' Cause you know there are only two forces I think And each of us must choose out of the cup we will drink Some say our actions mean much more than our words And the sounds from our mouth is like the wayward flight of birds Going somewhere for reasons we don't understand I disagree no matter the logic grand Surely my cup runneth over.God didn't give me just a sip when I drank from that life source vessel that emanates love, joy, and wonderment.Nay,it immerses me like a gentle flowing stream.Enveloped like a water droplet in a summer cloud.Like the mist in the evening fog.I know you will always be there like the gentle wind that moves the fog.The breeze that kisses the clouds. The raindrops that make the stream.Part of that great life source that has blessed my soul.... The summer rose may fade Like the stream too shallow to wade But your spirit and love will endure forever A bond too strong to sever
I Wish
We were at the park one day Just me and my sister I saw a drunken old man crying " What's wrong sir, what's wrong mister" The wind was blowing and it was so cold His shaking hands took the letter from his billfold " I just got out of prison and I'm dying" As he handed me the papers, softly crying " I have never been married or had a wife I have been in prison all my life I used to dream there in my cell That I would find an Angel when I got out of that Hell It's too late now, they are opening the gate I guess dreams were trumped by Fate Here is a little poem I just wrote To nobody in particular I guess When I depart this world there is no one I will miss At long last I am free" His last words were ' Oh,I wish I had someone to love me" The wind was starting to blow real hard 'You read it Sis,read the letter from the old bard" So here it is,best as I could make it out in the dark A letter from an old man addressed to nobody An old man who died in the park "Oh I wish I had someone to love me Someone to call my very own I wish that the seeds that I had planted Could have grown Oh I wish I had someone to love me Someone to call my very own Fate says it was not meant to be The flower in anothers garden Is like a prisoner's pardon It is not really free And neither are we Oh I wish I had someone to love Someone to call my very own Someone to love me Before my heart turns to stone The seeds of love need truth and light I see those nowhere in sight Oh I wish I had someone to love me Together turn the you and I into we But it is a million miles across the sea And together you and I will never be Oh I wish I had someone to love me Fly my Angel, fly Goodbye my love, goodbye"
Thank You Thank you so much for taking the time to read a few of these poems and visiting this site.If you would like to see some more go to http://community-2.webtv.net/wallywinky/WALLYWORLD/ for Words of Wally
Goodbye
The vast endless reaches beckon and I hear their call Bound no more by earthly restraints I give my all And return to the realms of my birth Where time nor distance measure the cosmos girth Where light is not seen by the eye And darkness reigns low and high The consciousness of my soul do not require Those antiquated trappings that mirrored my life in the mire But the reflections of my life shines in a world without bars In a glorious reunion beyond the stars I go now with no fear or regret And leave this one thought for your mind to whet Could you give it all up today and go with me The journey is long and the passage is free Eternity awaits but time does not stand still The galaxies have their rhythm and rhyme Perhaps I will see you again in another life time
Delight yourself also in the LORD, and He shall give you the desires of your heart. : Psalms 37:4
The road of Life is long and weary we always knew But as long as I am singing I'll always be in love with you Winding through the canyons of the long forgotten past I see your face in memories that forever last And the tears that I cried yesterday was for the song we knew But as long as I am singing I'll always be in love with you They can never take that away for it is laid in the cobble stones of my mind And the melody was you and there you will find The love we once knew As long as I am singing I'll always be in love with you
Just
you & me
Probably Never Will
I was born in Ireland way o'er the sea A land of green that was home to me When I think of her,it gives my heart a thrill Will I ever return,I probably never will The fishing village over the dale When first I saw you at sunset's sail You waved at me and smiled through the windblown chill Will I ever see you again,I probably never will Yet you were back the very next day Though the words came hard,I just had to say Oh lassie,oh lassie, never have I seen someone so fine In the vineyard of Life will you share my wine And as the sun kissed the top of the hill I won't tell you what she told me and I probably never will A hundred years have past And the legacy holds fast A newborn came into the world today And the flowers smile on a grave down Killarny's way Sometimes the sea is peaceful and still And on living I've had my fill But on dying I probably never will
Ocean Eyes
Somewhere between time and eternity I feel you looking and longing for me I search the seas and the skies Unaware of ocean eyes We met that day where the waves kiss the sand 'Neath the cliff where the gulls land My heart was pounding like the surf when I first saw your eyes Silence befell me and my face belies My emotions which I hide Till I kissed you in the crashing tide You lay there in my arms that night When I awoke you were nowhere in sight A sense of despair swept over me As I searched the shore and the sea I knew the one love of my life had been taken I walk these shores sad and forsaken Never to know she is out there waiting My torment hating As she calls me above the waves in the skies With those lovely ocean eyes
Its A Small World
From far on high I see The good Earth in all her glory The Arabian Peninsula veiled in her mystery The Suez Canal and the gateway to the Mediteranean Sea The great continent of Africa with its diverging race Looks beatiful from the eyes of space And Afghanistan is to the far upper right To many out of mind and out of sight I pray the war will soon end there Our soldiers get to come home by Christmas' chime And the kids in Afghanistan make it through the winter time And someday we will all hold hands be it summer, winter,or fall And be one together for it's a small world after all
CAMELOT
Come with me to a magic land Where there is gold in the rivers And diamonds in the sand With sapphire sky And snow mountains high There in the distance a village gleams Waiting for us A place of dreams Whether we find it really matters not For it resides in our heart And there it will stay Our own Camelot
I Have A Dream
As the day bids farwell to the golden sunbeams My thoughts turn to you and enchanted dreams To the land of rainbows and peaceful streams I have a dream With all my heart I deem I walk and love with another Just as much as my brother And life is not worth living If the taking exceeds the giving And I know my journey through this world may take many shapes and forms But I have a lasting belief that there has to be more rainbows than storms And you will always be with me till the twilight's last gleam I have a dream
THE LAST MILE
And now my love we must say goodby, For the road I take you need wings to fly, My sojourn took me to mountains high and valleys wide Now I look forward to seeing the other side But before I do,this I say to you Thanks for walking with me when the sky was not always blue, . Maybe the road we took was less traveled and hardships lay ahead that we never knew But I would walk a million more miles of it if I could walk it with you We have come to where one road turns to two I now must take one without you Your road leads to roses and sunshine So does mine As I kiss you for the last time and go my way Knowing the sun has set on my day Peace and contentment enter my soul as I see your loving smile. Thanks for going with me the last mile A ROSE WALKED WITH ME
Carousel In The Sky
I have always loved the sound Of the music on the merry-go-round The many colorful horses that go up and down You can have your night on the town Just give us a merry-go-round That's where I met you many long years ago On a playland steed at a carnival show I caught you when you almost fell Propped you back up on the moving carousel Around and round we went laughing without a care Months went by and I took a dare Will you marry me I said Trying to see your reaction over the horse's head As long as we can go round and round And the sound will always stay Promise me this and I'm yours today Were the words to me she did tell On that magic night on the carousel I sit here tonight missing her so And there is just one thing I want her to know And no one should have to ask me why I can't wait till we are together again, In that great Carousel in the sky
Coming Home
Sweetheart, this is my last cattle drive I hope never again to see Abilene,Kansas While I am alive I write this letter while on the trail Somewhere in Oklahoma Territory We are stopped now because of the rain and hail We lost old Jim today when the herd stampeded I cry silently because he was like a Dad to me He was always there when he was needed We tried to give him a decent burial and said a few words As we laid him down for his final rest I put some wildflowers on his grave And said "Jim this ain't Texas And I know you deserve the best You won't be here long That coyote singing that mournful song Tells me Jim,you are coming home Honey,I'm starting on my letter again It has been a week since we lost Jim The wind blew so hard today And the sky was full of dust I don't know how we made our way I sure miss you and the kids I have lost track of the days But I know this month Lily has her birthday Tell her Daddy loves her and everything is going to be OK I'll try to get her that doll in Abilene It will be the prettiest thing she has ever seen Tell Bobby I miss him a lot And we will go fishing soon as this drive ends To you all my love I send A lonely cowboy on his last cattle drive Never sent this letter and his sweetheart never knew what happened to him He is out there on the lone prairie with his buddy Jim Where the coyotes howl and the buffalo roam Lily and Bobby cry at night And his sweetheart weeps under the moon He won't be coming back home
Red River Valley
Forgive me dear for all my transgressions and sins I've wronged you but my love has no ends They are hanging me tomorrow in Fargo I've heard I'll never see another sunrise or hear the songbird Like we used to when we first met On the banks of the Red River, how could I ever forget Time tarnished me and made me bad I guess I forgot the love we once had I wish so much I could turn back the hands of time I wish so much I could read you those words of rhyme When I penned I love you and thought it would always be But I burnt our bridge of love and I will never be free I hope someday you will find someone better than me The river of love flows eternally to the sea It has many a twist and turn And too late the lesson I learn I let you go and now I'm drowning The sorrow of regret I'm downing Unlike the sweet wine of our love As I go I can only look above And hope you and God forgives me I'll always remember the springtime and the honey bee The face of a beautiful woman that set me free Bluebirds so many I could never tally And the girl I loved by the Red River Valley Good Bye Sweetheart
Columbia; A Fallen Star
January 16th,2003,they blasted off into space February 1st 2003,in history they have earned a place Rick Husband,Willie McCool,,Kalpana Chawla,Michael Anderson,Laurel Clark,Ilan Ramon, and David Brown Lost their lives as Columbia crashed to the ground A fallen star of many great missions it is gone for good Not so the brave astronauts who flew on board When Columbia became a fallen star they rose to new heights They are part of the Eternal Heaven that knows neither days or nights There they will shine for eons untold For the weary and the bold As beacons of inspiration, courage, and hope Giving us the will to carry on and cope Reminding us to reach for the stars no matter what the cost For a life really worth living is never lost They live on forever in our hearts and mind Thank you, brave astronauts for forwarding human kind
Now They Are The Stars
Gone,Is That Too
I look back on the passions and pleasures of my life The memories are still sharp and cut like a knife The good things slipped through my hands like grains of sand And were blown like the wind by forces I didn't understand My first love happened when I was ten When the world was innocent and there was no sin She was brown skinned with a smile that lit up her face I didn't know what people meant when they said she was of another race That it wouldn't look good me holding her hand Better if alone I would stand So to fools I listened and lost my first love true And the refrain was born that has haunted me my whole life through " Gone,is that too" God came into my life when I was flying on the wings of youth He invited me to come and soar with him where I would know peace and truth I did not want to follow into his sky But chose to partake of the lie That leads many astray Into decadence and decay I have found you once again And realize my sin He led me to you Someone good and true Now you lead me to him When I stood on the periphery of the rim I want to thank you with all my heart For giving me a wonderful new start And the lifelong refrain has died, thanks to you "Gone,Is That Too'
This poem is dedicated to Bob McMillen who passed away in June,2003.He never got to enjoy his retirement that he so dreamed of.He always spoke of Montana, the Big Sky Country. That was where he longed to be.Now he is truly in the land of the Big Sky
Sometimes you wonder why God made certain people Why a mountain has a spire or a church has a steeple Maybe He made some of us just to take up space or be a fill in Not so my friend,Bob McMillen Bob loved life with enthusiasm and he let it show He would always greet you with a smile and let you know That he was happy to see you;he had that glow He loved the great outdoors with a passion A desire to travel and explore that never went out of fashion The great state of Montana was where he longed to be And I can still see Bob describing it with glee He would talk about Glacier in the wild Like he was seeing it through the eyes of a child Or the land above Great Falls where the mighty Missouri is just a sliver Or fly fishing on the Flathead river The Big Sky country to the east A land of superlatives to say the least Bob dreamed of going there and he talked about it almost every day Now suddenly he is gone and it seems like such an injustice,I have to say He left us so quickly but I can't believe this is his final goodbye I know if there is a God,he is in the land of the Big Sky He is making people happy and he doesn't even have to try That's just the way Bob was A kind and gentle soul A good man with a heart of gold And I am richer for having known him,I am proud to say I hope someday I will be by his side In that great Sky Country on that eternal ride
Stanley,Idaho
There is a place you need to see,a place you need to go Where the Salmon River flows and the Sawtooth's glow.Stanley,Idaho Drop your cares for a week or a day Come out west, you might want to stay The people are friendly and the weather is divine And in Stanley I saw a sign Not by the roads that often wind But a message of a different kind It just came to me from my heart Now I think I want to make a new start Stanley,a land of extremes Stanley,a land of dreams A life I have spent on the roam At long last In Stanley I have found a home
Forever In Love
The seasons come and go and the stars keep their shine Summer turns into autumn and the grapes yield their wine As I sip their bounty and stare into the great above One thing strikes me I have always been in love With you and with life and its glory And the rose embodies my story It may go away for a day But in my heart it always stays Like you, and that makes everything right A life full of sunshine and starry nights Hold this rose, letting go never We will be together forever Like the starry skies above Me and you Forever in Love
Immortality
Some of us live four score Some of less, some of us more But the years are finite, they do end A baby dies at birth An evil man never seems to leave the Earth At some point we all go The Whites, the Indians, the Blacks, the Eskimo The Christians,Jews,Buddhist,Muslims and the Hindu Their days are all numbered like me and you Some of us believe we don't really live until we die Others see the dichotomy and cry Did my religion leave me behind Or was I born blind Is there equal justice for all Or do many take the fall I have found my way and I hope you have too Love is God,and God loves you All faiths, creeds, and religions with that theme Will see immortality and it will not be a dream My years are almost over I hope soon to walk with all my brothers and sisters In Eternal Fields of Clover
I Am Going To See My Mother When The Works All Done This Fall
I remember when I was kid growing up in Texas long ago The only music you heard was the song bird's melody or someone humming a tune you might know We finally got this radio and it played all those sad old country songs About how guys cheated on their wives and a millon other wrongs Most of it didn't make much sense being eight years old and four and a half foot tall But one poignant song did something to me; " I Am Going To See My Mother When The Works All Done This Fall" It spoke of a young man who left his home to work faraway And longed to see his Mother everyday The work was hard and the hours were long And I think he must have wrote that song He loved her so and he would heed no other call "I'm going to see my Mother when the works all done this fall" That cowboy died herding cattle on the range And the coyotes mournful music never will change To me that song was so sad and I couldn't imagine life without my Mother A thosand years away and then another Now she is gone and she is the lucky one it seems I only have her in my dreams She is up there in Heaven just waiting for my call " I'm Going To See My Boy When The Works All Done This Fall".
To Old To Dream
I look and as far as I can see Vanquished dreams I had for you and me It is all gone now and I feel so alone and cold And a storm is brewing I am told I am so battle weary fighting all these years I have run out of hope midst my fears Today I stand here in total solitude Resigned to this bittersweet mood Maybe the winter of my heart will someday see a spring And though I be old and withered maybe I can sing 'cause no matter how bad things may seem I hope I never get to old to dream
Hands Of Time
I can change my words around and make them rhyme But I can't undo the clock I can't change the hands of time I can only dream of having that power But if I could I would start right now, this very hour I'd go back to the day I first met you That summer day in sixty two I'd give you that first kiss again And say goodbye and follow the wind Back to the time when I was a lad And say hello one more time to my Dad Give my Mom a hug and be on my way Go back to World War Two And see horrors like I never knew Try to understand how that came to be 'Cause it seems like war is always part of our memory Turn the clock back to World War One over in France Where many a young man never had a chance And the only marking of their losses Is row upon row of white wooden crosses Go back to Kitty Hawk in Nineteen hundred four When men took to the sky And on their own did fly Stop and see the wagons heading west One people's lives ending,a nation on an endless quest The year was eighteen sixty four A country embroiled in a civil war I cried when Lincoln was shot A great leader killed, but in vain he died not His legacy lives on today Sometimes history does show the way In Eighteen thirty eight I observed the Trail of Tears When the Cherokee Nation realized their worst fears Torn from their homes and marched many a mile Gone forever was their laughter and smile To a land not their own The eternal seeds of despair forever sown At long last in my time travel I became weary The sun didn't shine very bright and the days were dreary I wanted to go back even though I would be old The past I had bought but it was not all gold Dreams can be bought but never sold For time is an illusion I have long last learned And the future is the only reality a fool ever discerned We can't undo the past but our dreams in the future lie Let the poets fiddle with their rhyme Lets not turn back the hands of time

Elixir
Life is an elixir consumed at a pace Cosmic medicine with a taste Devoured by some as in a race Drink it slow or drink it fast There is only one thing certain It will not last At least not here So have a beer or maybe a glass of wine Pat a kid on the head And watch the sunshine Help an old lady across the street Smile at the cop on the beat Tell your wife or best friend you love them If you are a lady say the same thing to him It is only when we drink from the cup of kindness We lose our blindness It is only when we give our all We answer the call Someone is waiting to hear from you It is all so plain don't you see When we pass this cup to another will we be free We leave this life having tasted the elixir sweet Every day should be a treat No matter if you drink it fast or slow I just wanted you to know Thanks for drinking it with me Now I have to go But before I do I say this to you I hold my cup high and salute my love No words could be more true The real elixir in my life was you
The One I Always Loved So True
I see a picture and it no longer includes you The one I always loved so true I see a picture and it is kind of hazy Like the summer days on the beach when we were so lazy And we had a million dollars worth of dreams That came true only in other dreams it seems I see a picture and you are not in it Here alone with the sea I sit And watch the waves crash at my feet And remember how my heart used to beat When you were by my side I needed no wave to ride It was more of a thrill holding your hand And listening to that far off band That was sweet music to my mind Love's song could never have been so kind And I know never again will I find In the storybook we lived And all that you gave That missing page That picture of you The one I always loved so true Gone like the receding tide Only dreams now abide I don't know if it is the salt of the sea or my tears I taste But life without you is a waste And I know not what to do In a picture without you The one I always loved so true
Mary
What can I say
She has been my life for ever and a day
I never knew what destiny meant
But I know now from God she was sent
My life was was once with out meaning and dreary
Then I met Mary
The life we have had has not been without travail
But I would go down no other trail
Dying won't be so bad if I can be with her forever
They say true love you can not sever
We are old now and who knows the days that remain
But I can say she brought me more blue skies than rain
And I just wish her life had not seen so much pain
I'll always think of her for the love she had for others
For animals, all mankind, the world was her brothers
God Bless you Mary
My life was not dreary
Thank you for taking my hand
Soon we will be together a million years in the promised land
Dying won't be so bad
Coming Home
Sweetheart, this is my last cattle drive I hope never again to see Abilene,Kansas While I am alive I write this letter while on the trail Somewhere in Oklahoma Territory We are stopped now because of the rain and hail We lost old Jim today when the herd stampeded I cry silently because he was like a Dad to me He was always there when he was needed We tried to give him a decent burial and said a few words As we laid him down for his final rest I put some wildflowers on his grave And said "Jim this ain't Texas And I know you deserve the best You won't be here long That coyote singing that mournful song Tells me Jim,you are coming home Honey,I'm starting on my letter again It has been a week since we lost Jim The wind blew so hard today And the sky was full of dust I don't know how we made our way I sure miss you and the kids I have lost track of the days But I know this month Lily has her birthday Tell her Daddy loves her and everything is going to be OK I'll try to get her that doll in Abilene It will be the prettiest thing she has ever seen Tell Bobby I miss him a lot And we will go fishing soon as this drive ends To you all my love I send A lonely cowboy on his last cattle drive Never sent this letter and his sweetheart never knew what happened to him He is out there on the lone prairie with his buddy Jim Where the coyotes howl and the buffalo roam Lily and Bobby cry at night And his sweetheart weeps under the moon He won't be coming back home soon
Consider The Lilies
And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Matthew (ch. VII, v. 28-29)
The Earth spins through space Each of us seek our place Clothed in ambition and working to get ahead Striving for riches and an ego to be fed Off the crumbs of others dreams that are dead Trampling the flowers before they could ever grow You will get yours I want you to know Remember that time You could have gave a dime And made a child smile You forgot that It has been awhile Or that time you lied to your friend How long has that been How many times have you lied to yourself Ask a fairy or elf They are more likely to tell the truth Or little baby Ruth Who can not even talk She just lies in her bed with a coo Much more ahead of you She has much building to do But you have a lifetime to dismantle The fire is as bright as a candle And it flickers in the dying light You can't see the lilies because of the night The Rose you killed long ago I don't know if you will ever know What made the flowers grow He looks in the mirror and it sears Those must be someone's tears But your time is ending And I am sending you your clothes I hope you are happy wearing those To you Life was just a tease Your raiment is all that is left of these They will decay back into the Earth And give birth To the Lilies that please "Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these."
Loving You
To Marylou
I Love you in the springtime,in the month of May I love you when the cold winter winds blow I love you every day I love you when I am angry and when I am sad I love you when I am lost,I love you when I am bad Our love was meant to be,it is simple as that I know Destined by God,two seeds that grow Many miles and worlds apart One in a million That we would be one heart I love you when autumn leaves fall I love you when summer makes its call Each and every day through all the years Through the laughter and the tears It has been quite a journey And only Time will tell when it is through But it will never end I will always be loving you
The Grass Can't Grow Without The Rain
The grass can't grow without the rain It can only leave a desolate and barren plain And I seem to find only hardship midst this pain Why I am where I am A lake without a dam A river gone dry Under a cloudless sky Like yesterday's bones on some alkali flat Dreams covered by sand That is where I am at But I will keep holding on There is no place to go And if I can't find rain Maybe I can find snow To cover the sorrow Of yesterday's pain And be on my way to some new tomorrow Where I don't have to borrow Memories from the past My journey's end at last Where I revel in a new rainbow land Where there is much more water than sand And it is no mirage I see When I walk hand in hand with thee What is your station in Life Does happiness exceed strife Are you on a desolate and barren plain Remember The grass can't grow without the rain
You Would Do That For Me
The night was dark and cold with a hard wind blowing I was headed home when it started snowing On a deserted city sidewalk I hurriedly walked Trying to escape the memories that always talked And stalked and filled my head I stumbled over an old man who was cold as dead Just lying there under the street lamp's glow I started to keep walking but something made me stop What,I will never know "Mister, you are going to have to get out of this cold or you will die" He looked up at me with his sad old eyes and started to cry "I have no money,I have no place to go My dreams are as gone as this windswept snow Just leave me alone and let me do as I choose I prefer death to living, what do I have to lose" For some reason I started crying To see this sad old man whose only dream left was dying I tried to think of some encouraging word to say But my life had been so cold and cynical no thought came my way I was on my knees holding his hand And I heard music as if from a band A sweet melody from my childhood Suddenly I was a child again and above me my mother stood I was lying in bed,I had been sick for so long To me she was an angel as she sang this song "I love you my son and I always will Whether you are awake or whether you are still Time takes many things but it will never steal my love for you For time cannot kill truth And I will always love you true" "Moma,I love you" I said But am I ever going to get well Will I ever get out of this bed Will I ever walk again like other kids do Or will I be a cripple my whole life through" "Son I truly believe one day you will be like the others Like your sisters and brothers I pray that is God's will That can you can climb every mountain and hill That you grow up and have children of your own And plant some of these seeds that others have sown The seeds of goodness, love, and light To brighten someone's weary night And to show some lost soul the good light of day To help others find the way But son, I can promise you this much As long as you need me,my hand and heart you will touch I will never leave you until you can walk Until you can run in the meadows, until you can climb the tree Until you are free" "Gosh Mom"I said through tears"you would do that for me" "Yes,I would" she said with a smile "I will be with you until that last mile And be happy that I could Now,you get well,is that understood" Then suddenly the music and my mother was gone There was just the two of us,me and the old man alone "Let me be" he was saying in pain As the snow turned to rain "Leave me alone mister,I'm just a loser bum When I am gone there is just one less piece of scum And trash to pick off the street Now beat it,get on your feet Get the hell out of here Go get a meal or a beer What could my life possibly mean to you It's over,it's through" "No it is not" I said with a trembling voice "You still have a choice I am going to help you get on your feet You will no longer sleep on the street I know you are old but you still have some gold We all have some light to give and some seeds to grow I am going to take care of you mister That I want you to know" He looked up at me with tears in his eyes and said "why" I thought of my mother and choked back the will to cry For the first time in a long time my spirit was free "You would do that for me You would do that for me" "Yes I would"I said I pray that it is God's will That you can climb every mountain and hill That you can still grow and have dreams of your own And plant some of those seed that others have sown The seeds of love, goodness, and light To brighten someone's weary night And to show some lost soul the good light of day To help others find the way And mister,I promise you this much As long as you need me,my hand and heart you will touch I will never leave you until you can get back on your feet I promise you never again to sleep on the street So relax mister you are now free" He smiled as if he had just seen Heaven And said" you would do that for me" The next morning I awoke and he was dead And though I grieved for the old man I was thankful for the words I had said He is in a better land running through the meadows and climbing the tree As I see my mother smiling down on a little boy "You would do that for me"
I Had A Dream Last Night
I had the most wonderful dream last night We were all young again Marylou was really a sight Those brown eyes and that cute come on smile If I had to jump,it would have been a mile She was such a treasure to me A sprit loving and free With her I wish the sun would have never rose With her time could have froze I would have cared not If the hours stayed forever ought And my baby Marissa came into view The sweetest girl I ever knew So pretty and sweet Life offered no better treat Fill my treasure chest with love And make my heart as the dove Then Paul entered my life,my first son His journey is over, his walk on Earth is done But he was there last night And I got to hug him once more before he took flight Then there was baby Josh Oh my gosh Who looks like Paul He said I am here for a season And a reason You won't understand it until the end A message I send It is just over the mountain and beyond the hill And then I saw Bill And my heart was filled with pride I knew I had a dream to ride This boy is really special with a mind of his own He will till his own garden Never mind the seeds you have sown Just wait until he is grown And then Brandon did appear I couldn't hold back a tear He reminded me so much of Josh and Paul When he called me Papa I was rich,I had it all I was starting to get sad Then I saw Brad A talented and unique lad I just laughed with joy God,one more boy He will claim his rightful place Just give him space I saw Mom and Dad They were so young and happy And I was so glad To see them once more They both waved as they closed the door I saw Morylou's father and mother I said thank you,for no other Could have given me their daughter for a wife To be happy the rest of our life I saw all my brothers and their brides to be Then I saw something that was perplexing to me A chain of people holding hands as far as I could see The young, the old, people of every race A look of peace and contentment on their face I pulled one aside and said" what does this mean Such a sight I have never seen" He spoke in a deep clear voice "In this journey we call Life We all have a choice This chain of people represents everyone that has ever helped you As to its actual length I don't have a clue Most of us take it all for granted you see But if only one link in that chain had been broken There would be no me Or you,or hundreds of others today who are free No one can imagine the importance of one good deed The planting of one good seed The creation of one good thought Depletes the storehouse of lies the Devil has bought I am glad you had a chance to see me in your dreams Sometimes Life is not all it seems Drop by again sometimes to see the happy days of old And remember, turn your copper into gold Greet each day with a resolute face If you desire this place And someday you can be a link In that permanent chain of happiness Where you know longer drink From the cup of dreams in your mind But a lasting and happy place you will find For thousands like me and you Where the dreams of Life Really do come true"
