West Long Branch is a largely suburban community near the Atlantic shore of Central New Jersey.  Its normal population of 8282 is seasonally enhanced by both a summer influx of shore visitors and the fall through spring arrival of the student body of Monmouth University.  Where the heck-ah-wee?

Since its incorporation in 1908, the Borough of West Long Branch and its Police Department have grown in leaps and bounds.  With its humble beginnings of Marshals and later motorcycle mounted police officers, the WLBPD has become a complete and modern law enforcement agency.  Its vehicle fleet now includes over 16 patrol cars, unmarked cars, SUV's and a special transport van.  Call boxes and typewriters have given way to cell phones, multi-channel transceivers and computer networks.  The old service revolvers have stepped aside for high capacity semi-automatic pistols, tactical shotguns and assault rifles.

The Police Department is currently staffed by 21 full time sworn officers and 3 part time (1 sworn and two "Class One") Special Officers.  Full and part time civilian dispatchers run the communications/dispatch center and a full time Records Bureau secretary comprise essential Department support personnel.

Arthur N. Cosentino serves as Chief of Police.  Chief Cosentino and his family are popular and active in the community.  He commands a diverse and talented group of police officers whose profession is ever-evolving.

The largest and most significant project for the West Long Branch Police Department and the community as a whole is the construction of the new Police Building behind Borough Hall at 965 Broadway.  Years in the making, ground was broken in 2008 and the facility has progressed toward its anticipated late Fall/early Winter 2009 opening.  Unprecedented teamwork and cooperation at every level is producing a facility and investment in the future of West Long Branch.

Community relations and an interactive connection with the people characterize the spirit of the Department.  The many bureaus and units of the West Long Branch Police Department are responsive to the needs and concerns of this progressive Borough. The Department is comprised of the:
