CodeRED messages are recorded by West Long Branch Police, usually Captain Larry Mihlon. They are transmitted to the national calling center and usually take place instantly. As you can see by the statistics posted here, 2000 calls are connected during as little as five minutes, notifying residents of emergencies and providing advice on how to respond to those emergencies.
If the message asks you not to call Headquarters unless you have an emergency, please ONLY call if you have an EMERGENCY. Events such as power outages often mean that traffic lights will stop functioning, making driving particularly hazardous. Even though our officers address these issues by placing portable stop signs, reflective cones, barricades and/or flares, roadways become dangerous and your decision to travel should be carefully weighed.

Residents of West Long Branch:
In an effort to improve and expand our community’s emergency communications, the Borough has purchased Code RED, a telephone based emergency warning system. Using this system, the Emergency Services Organizations of our community can instantly send a customized, pre-recorded message to residents in a designated area or the entire community. Within minutes, residents can be notified of emergencies which affect the community.
Listed phone numbers can and will be called in an emergency. However, the system is customizable so as to include unlisted numbers, cell phones or work numbers at the residents’ request. This information is confidential, ONLY for this system and is not available to anyone else.
Updating your phone number list is easy. Clicking on the CodeRED logo above will take you to a secure website where you can fill out an on-line form to enter your telephone numbers. Alternatively, residents can also fill out and return a printed form, available at the West Long Branch Police Department, 95 Poplar Avenue or Borough Hall, 965 Broadway, West Long Branch.
If you have any questions regarding this program, please call project coordinator, Captain Lawrence Mihlon at 732-571-5959.
