It takes a few minutes to load but is well worth the wait.  We have gone back to the basics of the performance issue.  We used to be a club of 200 or more members, but with internal disagreements, some people left.  There are two crowds, car show guys and performance/Drag race guys.  A lot of the membership went to the Motor City Rockets.  They are more of a family/ car show kind of club and they are affiliated with OCA.  As for the OSR club, we are more guy hanging out with performance and cruises.  We are now a club of 70.  That's ok, it is back to grass roots of having fun and not having too many members.  So the cars in the next several web pages are cruisers / racers and car show quality.  Enjoy the web site and don't hesitate to email the OSR for info on performance or any other Oldsmobile questions.

One of the events we go to during the summer is the Dick Miller Oldsmobile Open which was held on August 21, 1999 with Car Craft magazine reporting on the event.  This picture was taken at the end of the day of all the Street Rocket members that brought their cars. Matt King from Car Craft was impressed of the cars and was surprise not to find trailer queens.. He was astonished that we drove 2 1/2 hours to Norwalk, raced then would be driving home.  The Street Rockets had a total of 22 cars show up for the race and car show event.

Then there is the short stories in Car Craft and Muscle Car Review magazines that the Olds Street Rockets have had the privilege to be in.  In the Oct 99, Nov 99, Dec 99, Jan 00 and June 00 issues, the street rockets have been featured at different summer events.  The events were Dick Miller Olds Open and the Woodward Dream Cruise and finally the Muscle Car Review factory stock shoot-out.  Two cars have been  featured in Car Craft and that was Rob Thomas and his 69 442 W-32 and Mark Prince and his 72 442 W-30.

This 1970 442 W-30 is owned by Mark Cornea. He is known as Dr. Decal of Oldsmobile's. He did an exceptional job of restoring this car short of painting. He added headers and a full stainless steel exhaust. He did painstaking detailing and tuning to the car to bring it up to an immaculate W-30. His awards are many from summer cruises and car shows. He took a first place best of show at the 1996 Mondello Oldsmobile Nationals.   Visit Dr. Decals web pages to buy your Oldsmobile restoration decals at DocDecal or email him at Dr. Decal (Mark Cornea)

How many times have you heard people say they wish they’d have kept a particular car? Dave Heilala drove this gem off the Lansing assembly line while a young engineer in May,1968.  It’s one of the ultra rare 1968 Ramrod 350 W31’s, and probably the most original one anywhere.  It racked up 50,000 quick (some were very quick) miles on the streets of Lansing in its first 5 summers and has been pampered since 1973.  Regularly shown and cruised, it’s now got 60,000 on the odometer.  Other than a drive train refresh this year, it has never been restored or modified.  The original Ocean Turquoise paint still shines, but is getting thin.  First visit ever to the strip was in the 1999 Pure Stock Muscle Car Drag Race after being spotted at Woodward by the Pure Stock gurus, Dan Jensen and Bob Boden.  It qualified 14.52 @ 96 mph on its original 30 year old untouched drive train before retiring with a broken drive shaft and bell housing.  A full mechanical restoration was done over the winter and this year won its meet with a 13.90 at 101.  It was the 23rd fastest car of 100+ at the meet.  It has since run a 13.30 at 104+ with a deeper gear.  Fellow club member, Gary Rubrich blueprinted the engine and Dave turned over the serious driving chores to fellow club member Rob Thomas.  Dave concentrates his efforts at the track on cooking hot dogs.  Dave also is preparing his 40,000 mile 66 442 hardtop for the street this summer with a sweet 403 and a 200R4 overdrive.  The original 400 with tri-power and 4 speed will be back in place for Pure Stock and Factory Stock meets the following year.  dehw31@msn.com (Dave Heilala)

This 1972 442 was built by Gary Rubrich the cars owner. This car was a two time national record holder in NMCA's Top Stock Eliminator, running 12.80's @105+ in (G/TS). Since retiring from top stock and fully porting the heads and intake, the best e.t.'s to date are 11.27 @ 118 mph with mufflers and DOT street tires at Norwalk Raceway;  Norwalk, OH.   The spec's are: Olds DX Block with 11:5 cr., mild cam, Th400 with a 3800 stall and 4.56 gears.  gar442@comcast.net (Gary Rubrich)

This 1972 Hurst Olds belongs to Rick Roberts. He is the second owner of this car. His car currently has 86,000 original miles on it. Rick occasionally races his H/O. He is also running an Edelbrock intake and Holley 850 cfm carb. This car was in December 1999 Car Craft Magazine's coverage of the Dick Miller Nationals.    The cool thing about this car is that the motor is 14 years old and has held up beautyfully.  Its had nitros for two years and 10 years of pure motor.  He plans to freshen her up in the near future.

There were 7197 SX's built in 1970 with the code of W-32 on the order form.  It was considered the Turnpike Cruiser back in the day.  They came from the factory with a 455, Th400, cut out bumper and rear swaybar.  The Ram Air hood was optonal.  When he bought  the car, it was only a shell.   He stuffed another 455 Olds block into it.  The enging has  11.73 to 1 compression and TH400 transmission and added 2 inch primary Hooker headers, alum intake and holley carb and a 3500 stall converter. He also took a 12 bolt Chevy posi rear end with the gear ratio of 4:10 and modified it to put under the Supreme.  He has done everything to the car himself including the paint, undercarriage, engine and interior.   He showed his car at the 2002 Detroit Autorama and sparked alot of interest with a car that had low production numbers. Best e.t. with this combo was a 11.72 @ 116.3 mph at Milan Raceway, Milan Michigan.   Email him at Supreme1970@msn.com (Michael Prince)

The 71 W30 Convertible was found while browsing traderonline.com while looking for a late 80's Cutlass to be used for racing. So much for the race car, as rare (110 produced in 1971) W30 convertibles don't show up for sale less than 30 miles from your home to often. This car had the special honor of representing the model year 1971 at the Oldsmobile Centennial Celebration August, 1997.  He is also the web master for the Motor City Rockets.  Its an OCA affiliated club in Southeast Michigan.
