Here are shown the early renderings of the sculptures. The creative process was meticulous as each went through minor revisions as discussed between Bud Clark and Harry Weber.

Note the changes to the sculptures as they progressed. The picture on the left shows Clark getting a "nose job", as well as changes to his hair to make him appear more rugged and trail-worn. Lewis underwent revisions to the size of his chest, and the appearance of his uniform. The end result is a combination of Harry's incredible talent and Bud's eye for historical accuracy, truly capturing both captains as they would have appeared during their historic journey.
