Club History and Founding Members

The IROC Snowmobile Club was founded in 1998 when the Pete, Bill and Jeff cracked open their wallets and went out to purchase identical 1999 Artic Cat ZL-500s. We ended up with identical sleds for two reasons. First, with identically prepared sleds, there would be no needless bickering about who had the biggest, baddest, meanest machine. With the same sled it would be easy, whoever was at the front of the pack, would be the king salami. Secondly, Pete did all the shopping and arranged us a good deal in a group buy (thereby causing Bill & Jeff to make the purchase sight unseen).

Pete, aka Trail Boss
Pete is our informal leader and all around snowmobiling hero. He picked the sled. He used to have an Indy 500. That's why we call him "boss." Three years later we still call him boss!
Bill, aka Flip
Bill is the brains of the outfit. He used to have a '70 Ski Doo Nordique. We call him Flip because he learned the hard way that the brakes on a '99 CAT are alot more sensitive than on a '70 Ski Doo.
Jeff, aka Snowed In
Jeff is the third guy. He gets last billing because it took him two years to get a tow vehicle of his own. He inherited the '70 Ski Doo when Bill was through with it. We call him Snowed In because he missed our best outing of 1998 due to too much snow!

As he was the only one of the founding members to have actively ridden in the current decade, Pete was unanimously named "Trail Boss Pete." Thus far, most of his trail bossing has been superb in nature, however, he has made a few wrong turns which have been graciously overlooked by the other club members.

Club Overview

Our primary riding areas are now Woodford, VT, Lake George and Old Forge in New York and Pittsburg, NH. And when there is snow, we've even had a few rides in Western Massachusetts! We used to like hitting the Tug Hill Plateau on the major holidays but the long drive and the reckless abandon on the hill have gotten to be a little too much! We've also been to Conway, Lincoln and Pittsburg in New Hampshire. We're always open to traveling to where the snow is deep and the riding is best!

Membership in the club is open to all Artic Cat ZL-500 owners. Membership is also open to owners of other sleds if the founding fathers believe they will make suitable riding partners. For additional details on club membership, see our newsletters or fill out a membership application.

In 2004 Pete made the first new machine acquisition in the club when he bought Stephanie a brand new Z-570 which she promptly named Zoey-Catherine. Zoey has since seen a lot of action with many people taking her for a ride. 2004 also saw the first couples ride when Bill & Pete took their Darja and Stephanie to Woodford.

At the end of 2004, Pete made another major acquisition and purchased a brand new ZR-900 for himself. Now he can hold the title of club menance all by himself.

Since our humble beginings back in 1998, the club has grown to over two hundred members world-wide. Who knows what the future will bring. Rumor has it Bob will be buying Pete's ZL-500 and joining the club but only time will tell how this one turns out....
