Marriage

Woman… is said not to have been taken out of man's head to be lorded over by him, nor from his feet to be trampled on by him, but from his side to be equal with him, from under his arm to be protected by him, and from near his heart to be loved by him.

Genesis 2:24

Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

Hebrews 13:4  Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.

(honourable) timios, Greek 5093, Strong’s  including the comparative timioteros, tim-ee-o'-ter-os; and the superlative timiotatos, tim-ee-o'-tat-os; from Greek 5092 (time); valuable, i.e. (object) costly, or (subject) honored, esteemed, or (figurative) beloved :- dear, honourable, (more, most) precious, had in reputation.

(all) pas, Greek 3956, Strong’s  including all the forms of declension; apparently a primary word; all, any, every, the whole :- all (manner of, means), alway (-s), any (one), × daily, + ever, every (one, way), as many as, + no (-thing), × thoroughly, whatsoever, whole, whosoever.

(bed) koite, Greek 2845, Strong’s  from Greek 2749 (keimai); a couch; by extension cohabitation; by implication the male sperm :- bed, chambering, × conceive.

(undefiled) amiantos, Greek 283, Strong’s  from Greek 1 (a) (as a negative particle) and a derivative of Greek 3392 (miaino); unsoiled, i.e. (figurative) pure :- undefiled.

1 Cor. 7:1-5

Now concerning the things whereof ye wrote unto me: It is good for a man not to touch a woman. 2Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband. 3Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence: and likewise also the wife unto the husband.

a[due benevolence] Greek: opheile (GSN-3782).  Only here and Ephes. 6:7.

Ephes. 6:7  With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men:

eunoia, Greek 2133, Strong’s  from the same as Greek 2132 (eunoeo); kindness; euphemism conjugal duty :- benevolence, good will.

It means that the wife and husband must respect each other regarding lawful sexual
needs, mutually satisfying each other.  If they do not obey this injunction one may be
responsible for the other's infidelity.

4The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband: and likewise also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife.

a  [The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband:  and likewise also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife] The husband and wife belong to each other.  Neither of them has any authority to refuse what the other needs or demands in normal temperate, relationship.  All acts of perversion or unnatural affection must absolutely be rejected.

5Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency.

a  [Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency] What you thus owe to each other, do not refuse to pay, unless by mutual consent for a time agreed upon for fasting and prayer.  Then, regardless of the spiritual blessing either one has received, come together again to defeat Satan.

Matthew 5:27-30  Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:

28But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.

29And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.

30And if thy right hand offend thee, cut if off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.

Job 31:1  I made a covenant with mine eyes; why then should I think upon a maid?

b  [covenant with mine eyes] Job made a covenant vowing he would not lust after women or take advantage of a virgin (cp.  Proverbs 6:25).

Proverbs 6:25  Lust not after her beauty in thine heart; neither let her take thee with her eyelids.
