Logan experiences fatherhood |
|
| The baby slept
peacefully in Danielle's arms. Logan sat next to Danielle in the
hospital bed still amazed at what a little angel of a child had come to
grace his life. He had never imagined his life would be going the
way it was - that he would have abandoned the solitary life, taken a
bride, and have a gorgeous little girl born to them. Every time
he thought of these things, his chest would tighten up with emotion.
Danielle marvelled at his current sensitive state. She had
seen him emotional before, although he always tried to hide it behind
his macho and gruff attitude. Logan's transponder rang. Sniffing away the tears, he finally answered it. "Yeah, I think we are ready," he said. Disconnecting, he looked to Danielle. "That was Jean. She's ready whenever you are." "I'm ready," Danielle said with a smile. She grasped Logan's hand giving it a gentle squeeze. "I love ya, darlin'," he said as he nuzzled her with his bristly chin. "Love ya, too," Danielle replied. "Well, now. I hear you three are ready to go home," the nurse said coming in with a wheel chair. "Yup. Ready to go," Danielle said as she hopped out of bed. "Whoa, there darlin'. I don't think it is wise for you to be running the New York Marathon just yet," the nurse said. "Wha? I feel fine," Danielle said. "Honey, it's hospital policy to wheel you down to the lobby," the nurse said. "I think you should listen to the nice lady, Danielle," Logan said. Danielle sighed and reluctantly sat down. The nurse was quite aware of her being a mutant but didn't know of Danielle's healing factor. Danielle looked at Logan as he picked up the bassinet gently and looked upon his daughter. A sweet smile curled up on his lips. Jean met Logan, Danielle, and their new infant daughter in the lobby of the hospital right in front of where she parked the van. "I just want to warn you, all the kids are very excited. I think they all feel they are going to have a new baby sister," Jean said. She and Logan helped Danielle get into the van with the baby. The drive home was quiet - the baby slept the whole way. Logan would look back from the front seat checking on Danielle and his new daughter - that sweet smile always on his face. As Jean pulled into the driveway, the front door swung open and cries of happiness were heard. "Get ready for the welcoming committee," Jean said. As Logan escorted Danielle and child up the walkway, the teenagers ran out to greet them. "Come on now. Let them get inside so the baby doesn't catch a chill," Jean gently ordered. In the hallway, Logan stood behind Danielle with his hands on her shoulders and his eyes focused on the baby. He smiled again as the child began to stir with all the activity and noise and laughter. Charles rolled up along with Scott, Storm, and Kurt. The rest of the teenagers and young adults flanked them. "I suppose I should allow you to meet your youngest resident," Danielle said as she placed the baby into Xavier's arms. "Oh, my word. She's just beautiful. You both should be very proud," Xavier said softly. Marie and Bobby leaned over Xavier's shoulder and Marie purred about how cute the baby was while Bobby touched the infant's face gently. Logan was grinning from ear to ear - his heart aflight with joy. He amazed himself that he could feel so totally happy. "Logan, stop gloating," Scott joked. "Wha? Can't a man be happy?" Logan sarcastically asked. "If you keep smiling, Logan, everyone is going to wonder what happened to the wild and angry Wolverine," Storm said. "Oh, yeah. I forgot I have a reputation to protect," Logan said. "Wha reputation? That yer a big softie inside?" Marie asked snidely. "She's just beautiful. Has she a name?" Charles asked. "Her name is Jean Marie. Danielle thought of it," Logan replied. "It's in honor of the two women who were Logan's first real friends," Danielle said. "You named the baby after Jean and I? Oh, my gawd, that's so cool," Marie said with enthusiasm. The baby looked into Xavier's eyes and smiled the biggest smile. Her delightful look brought such a light feeling to the professor. He looked upon her and talked softly to her on what a special little girl she was. The residents witnessed the effect the infant had on even Charles - he put aside his very proper British demeanor and opted to chat in baby talk with Jean Marie. Some of the younger residents found it entertaining to watch Xavier hold conversation with the child. Scott walked over to Logan and put his hand on his shoulder. "I gotta hand it to you, Logan. You made a beautiful little girl," Scott said. Logan turned to him and shook hands. Logan reached into his pocket and offered Scott a cigar. "Isn't this like tradition or something?" Logan asked. "Let's save these for later on," Scott said. As Xavier handed Jean Marie back to Danielle, he said, "well now, why don't we let Logan and Danielle go to their room and settle in. We all will have plenty of time to go visit." The children all followed the happy couple as they carried their daughter down the hall to their room at the far end of the mansion. |
