| A week had passed
since the incident in the gymnasium and Marie was planning a trip to
the movie. She asked Danielle, Kitty and Jubilee to join
her. While Marie made plans with the girls, Bobby was hitting up
Logan and Scott to go - all a big plan to get Logan and Danielle out
together. "Who else is goin'?" Logan asked. "Oh, just me and Scott," Bobby innocently said. Logan looked at Bobby unsure if he was telling the truth or not. He smelled fear, but then again, Bobby was always nervous around Logan. "Somehow, I don't believe ya. Maybe I should just stay here and watch the rest of the rugrats," Logan said. "Hey, you almost ready?" Scott said passing by Logan's open door. "Logan doesn't want to go, Scott," Bobby said. "Not surprised. You never want to go anywhere unless it is to the most local watering hole," Scott snidely said. Logan waited a long moment before saying anything. "OK, fine. But, you pay for my ticket, One Eye," Logan said with a smirk. "I think I can manage that. At least, I can say I won the bet in dragging Hairball out someplace besides the bar," Scott said. Meanwhile, the girls arrived early to the theater and got popcorn and drinks. They sat down on one of the benches waiting for the theater to empty out for the next showing of the movie. They laughed and chatted until Marie noticed the boys entering the theater hall. “Bobby! I am glad you made it,” Marie said running over to him. Danielle quickly turned away seeing Logan and Scott walking up. She jumped up and walked to the ladies’ room. “Hey, look who decided to join us,” Marie said. She nervously looked at the girls sitting on the bench. “Where did she go?” Marie asked. “There,” Kitty said and pointed to the ladies room. Logan had already shied away. He knew she left because of him. “I should leave,” Logan said. Marie grabbed his arm. “No, yer not. Both of you are gonna have to stop avoiding each other. Yer gonna go get yer tickets and come inside and have a bit of fun,” Marie scolded. Logan nodded in agreement. Really, he had no choice. Marie went into the ladies’ room. Danielle was staring at herself in the mirror. “Danielle, come on. The movie is about to start,” Marie said gently. “Why, Marie? Why is he here? Why did you do this?” Danielle asked. “Danielle, you guys have to stop this. It isn’t good to be so childish,” Marie replied. "Childish? Who's being childish?" Danielle balked. "Sugar, I think you two are being really silly. Honestly, I know you both like each other - actually, the entire school knows," Marie said. "Hah! You set me up!" Danielle said loudly. Marie cocked her head innocently. "Who, me? Never! Ok, maybe I did. I just want you to be friends. OK? If it makes ya feel better, I'll sit next to ya, kay?" Marie said. "OK. But, don't expect anything more but my being civil," Danielle said. “Come on. Let’s go have some fun and enjoy the movie, ok?” Marie said. “OK,” Danielle replied as a few tears fell. Marie wiped them away and smiled softly at Danielle. She took Danielle’s hand and walked out. In the hall outside the theater, the clan waited for Marie and Danielle. Then, they entered the room all together. Walking down the center aisle, Kitty found just the right spot to sit and started down the row of seats picking hers, followed by Jubilee, Scott, and Bobby. Danielle started in and finally Marie and Logan sat down. “Danielle, would you switch with me?” Marie asked. It was a perfect opportunity to get Danielle to sit by Logan’s side. Danielle hesitated. "Marie, you promised," Danielle whispered. "Sorry, I didn't realize Bobby would be over there," Marie said and giggled. “I’ll sit somewhere else,” Logan said trying to ease Danielle’s nervousness. “No,” Danielle said softly while switching with Marie. Danielle sat down slowly and with a great deal of tension. She sank down into the seat feeling so small and scared and angry - and if she were not in the presence of the rest of her friends, she would jump his bones right now. The movie ended and Logan waited in the aisle for Danielle to pass before he started up the ramp behind her. As everyone walked towards the doors, Logan pulled Danielle to wait. “I just wanted to say I’m sorry for what I did to ya. I had no right,” Logan said shyly. “Forget it. I shouldn’t have been such a bitch. I made ya mad,” Danielle apologized. Logan inhaled deeply. “Are we friends at least?” Logan asked. “I guess so,” Danielle said. "Can we still go joggin' or work out together?" Logan took a chance in asking. His sweet look was killing her. Why did he have to look so unbelievably gorgeous and still wanting to spend time with her? "I suppose we can," she replied. Logan smiled. She couldn't help but wonder how it was she could affect him so strongly. He hardly ever smiled, so she knew it was something special to him. "So, how are things going?" Marie asked. "To what are ya referring to?" Danielle asked back. "Ya know damn well what I am referring to - you and Logan?" Marie replied. "I told ya, we're bein' civil - nothin' more," Danielle said. "Ya know Logan's tryin'..." Marie trailed off. "Tryin' to what, Marie?" Danielle asked sternly. "Nothin'. Forget it," Marie said. "Hey, let's go do something." "Yeah, I need to get some new clothes. Shopping sound good with ya?" Danielle asked. "I'll be right back. Gotta get my purse," Marie said. |
