Peek A Boo

Summary:  After 'When Love and Hate Collide', Wolverine and Panther need some time away and leave their child in Kurt's hands.

"I think you need some time together," Jean said.

"It would be nice," Danielle responded.  "I feel so stupid that I didn't talk with Logan."

"Logan understands.  But, he had a really hard time with you being away.  He was so lost without you."

The look on Jean's face was sad and relieved at one time.  Danielle cocked her head curiously.

"It was the first time in a long time I saw him drunk.  I knew he was hurting pretty badly."

Danielle sat quietly.  She pondered on how Logan hadn't done that in a long time and especially after Jean Marie was born.

"So, where do you think you will go?" Jean asked.

"I don't really know.  Probably somewhere with lots of woods I guess," Danielle said before giggling.

"We can babysit for JM if you like," Jean said.

"Actually, Kurt had already offered.  I met with him earlier today and of course he was so happy Logan and I worked things out.  He really has taken a liking to JM and his calm and sensible demeanor is really priceless.  You know, he is just the sweetest guy."

"Yes, Kurt is really special."

Friday arrived and Danielle was anxious to finish her classes and get on the road with Logan.  Storm decided to intervene.  She entered Danielle's classroom and motioned for her to come outside.  Danielle excused herself from the children and followed Storm outside.

"Danielle, why don't you let me finish conducting class," Storm said.

"I couldn't shirk my responsibilities," Danielle replied.

"Nonsense.  I know you want to get going.  Logan is stalking around waiting for you to finish up," Storm said.

"He's never been terribly patient when he wants something."

"I don't mind.  Really."

"Storm,  ya are a goddess," Danielle said before giving her a hug and running off to find Kurt.

Danielle and Logan packed lightly.  After having dinner and spending some time with their daughter, Danielle met up with Kurt and escorted him into their room.

"I really hope you don't mind watching her.  We'll only be gone the weekend," Danielle said.

"Piece of cake, as you say," Kurt said in his thick German accent.

Danielle handed the baby over to Kurt and he craddled her in his arms and smiled softly at the child.  Jean Marie smiled back and reached up to touch Kurt's face.  She coo-ed softly and sweetly and Kurt's heart was full of joy.

"You are a lucky little girl," he whispered.

Danielle kissed Kurt's cheek.

"You have no idea how wonderful you are," she said.

"<Vitasane> <German for thank you>," he replied back.  "You go have good time."

Logan peered at Kurt with his daughter and stood there wondering.  Danielle walked over to him and they kissed each other.

"Ya really sure he can handle her?" Logan asked.

"I trust his abilities completely," Danielle responded.

Friday night was fairly quiet.  Jean Marie was nearly ready for bed and Kurt took her to her bedroom and put her into her crib.  He pulled down the side guard and sat on the bed by her side.

"You know I was part of the Munich Circus many years ago.  I was called the Amazing Nightcrawler in those days," Kurt began.  Just as he started to tell his story, Jean Marie fell asleep.  He smiled softly replacing the side guard of the bed and took himself outside to the couch.  There, he turned on the TV and watched the local religious channel where he took his rosary in hand and began saying prayers.

*****************************

The weekend was uneventful.  Jean Marie was an angel and on her best behavior.  However, Sunday afternoon was a little different.

Jean Marie was still sitting on the floor amid a myriad of toys suitable for a child of her age.  She was just over a year and a half old and very smart.

Kurt laid down on the floor near her and smiled.  Jean Marie smiled back and tossed him a stuffed animal.

"Meow," Kurt said as he picked up the stuffed cat.

Jean Marie mimicked him meowing back.

Jean ventured upstairs to the room the feral couple called home and found Kurt playing with Jean Marie.

"Oh, hallo'," Kurt said noticing Jean standing in the doorway.

"I just wanted to see if you needed anything."

"No.  We are playing."

Jean was surprised with the child's advanced mental skills at this tender age.

"You are really enjoying this."

"She is smart girl - repeats everything I say."

"What surprises me is that she really understands everything."

JM began to crawl away and Kurt, with his prehensile tail, grasped her around her tummy and returned her to the blanket and her toys.  Of course, as she was in the air, Jean Marie giggled loudly enjoying the flight.

"She liked that," Jean said then giggled.

Jean walked into the room.  Kurt stood up under the assumption JM's attention was back on her toys.  She appeared to be playing with them again.  As soon as Kurt began to talk to Jean, the youngster looked up at the adults.  She was now in the mood to test Kurt's abilities to keep up with her.  Her own animal instincts to toy with Kurt were now sprouting and she started to run out of the room and down the hall.

BAMF!!  Kurt appeared in front of her quickly grasping her in his hands and lifting her up.

"Now, where do you think you are going?" he asked.

Jean Marie giggled.  He walked back into the room and set her down.

"Play nice, little one," Kurt said.

Of course, the child wouldn't listen and got up and ran out again.  BAMF!!!  Kurt was right there to retrieve her again. And she giggled strongly.

"This is like a game to her," Jean said.

And a game is what it became.  JM would run and BAMF!!  Kurt was right there to catch her.  Over and over, Jean watched them play this game.  Then, the game evolved.  Jean Marie hid and Kurt would have to find her, and when he found her, he would say "Peekaboo."  Jean Marie would laugh so hard each time she was found.

Jean decided to get into the game.  It was JM's turn to find Kurt.  BAMF!!  He disappeared.

"Where is he?" Jean asked the child.

Jean watched the youngster sniff the air and listen carefully.  She headed towards her bedroom and there she found Kurt hiding behind her crib.  "Peek-boo" she tried to say.

"You found me, child," Kurt said.

BAMF!!!  He disappeared again.

"Come on, Jean Marie.  Where did Kurt go?" Jean asked.

Again, the doctor watched the child use her senses to locate Kurt.

"Just amazing," Jean muttered to herself.

After a while, the child had finally tired out and Kurt picked her up and sat down on the couch.  He put on the TV and the youngster curled up next to him falling fast asleep.

"Jean?" Scott called from down the hall.

He had their son Patrick with him.

"In here, Scott," Jean responded.

Scott walked in and saw how cute Kurt looked with Jean Marie.  His tail wrapped around her protectively and the diamond shaped end gently stroked the child's hair.

"Logan and Danielle will be home shortly," Scott said.

The feral couple returned and without any delay headed up to their room to check on Jean Marie.  They found Kurt with the child still asleep.

"Look's like everything is ok," Logan said.

"She behaved herself?" Danielle asked.

"She is beautiful child.  I enjoy much," Kurt replied.

"I'm just glad she wasn't fresh with you," Danielle said.

"She is an angel - an angel from God," Kurt replied.  "I stay until you want me to leave."

Danielle and Logan settled in and unpacked from their vacation.  Logan eyed Kurt suspiciously as he did any other male in his room.

"She didn't kill ya?" Logan asked.

Kurt shook his head 'no'.

"Hum."

"She tired me out.  We play games all weekend."

"Kurt, I don't know how to repay you for watching her," Danielle said before kissing Kurt on the cheek.

"I hope you will let me babysit again," Kurt said before giving Danielle a smile and turning to leave.
