For those who are curious... this is what I look like. The photo on the left was recently taken on my 48th Birthday. The photo on the right is one my mom took of me in July, 2001.
It will be four years on July 26, 2003, since I left my home state and moved two states away. It has been an adjustment, but I have made new friends. I have a son, almost 26, who "left the nest", three years ago February. He stayed behind in his home state. My oldest, the soon-to-be 26 year old, works at a grocery store. He likes anime and does some of his own anime drawings. My kids do not get their artistic talents from me. I'm lucky to do stick figures.
The first zucchini of the season... from my first vegetable garden here, July,
2000.
I didn't plant any zucchini last year. I probably won't this year either since I have a problem with squash bugs (nasty little things.) This is a great zucchini recipe, though:
Last year I planted Spaghetti squash. I had a massive problem with squash bugs the year before, and they reeked havoc with the spaghetti squash as well. They also did a number on the watermelon I planted. Still, I was able to get a few before the squash bugs "won", so I did get something out of it. Last year I had cucumbers, spaghetti squash, broccoli, oregano, basil, tomatoes, asparagus (year 3, but a late freeze ruined any harvest), onions, sunflowers, pole beans, and watermelon. It sounds like a lot... but sometimes the bugs, birds, weeds and other pests seem to have the upper hand.
The photo below includes my oldest daughter, aka the middle child. She was in gymnastics from the time she was 11, but quit about a year after the move. She was pretty good, too. I really enjoyed trying to catch her in the air on film...and sometimes I succeeded. This one of her doing an aerial was taken at a practice a quite a while ago (seems like yesterday; and I love this picture... so I have to put it somewhere.) She has been out of gymnastics for a while, but she misses it. She was recently married in May, 2002 -- still a newlywed. My daughter and her husband are both into hockey.
My "gymnast" is also a natural in creative endeavors. Her clay sculptures earned her two third place ribbons at the California State Fair in 1997 and she likes quilting. One year she made adorable angel ornaments for Christmas presents from polymer clay. She has done everything from entire scenes to people she knows. She started doing gymnastics figures and pyramids and progressed to angels, animals and special requests. She really loves claymation and was very excited about the movie "Chicken Run" when it was first announced. She is a big fan of Wallace and Grommit.
My youngest is quieter. She wants to go to college, become educated on running a business and operate as a cosmetologist. Her big dream is to own a shop that does piercing, tatoos and wild hair colors. She is now attending cosmetology school and has completed all of her hours. She just has to finish up a few classes. When she gets bored she goes to the movies or the mall or dyes her hair. As it turns out, she is also quite an artist. Some of her free hand drawings are awesome. She only began some art training year before last through public high school classes. Her instructor told me he thought she had talent. I knew that! In addition to art, she has taken interior design classes, and I think she is pretty talented there as well. She had signed up to take Advanced Interior design and they cancelled the class.
We also own quite a few critters, namely: two dwarf hamsters, a mouse, a fat hamster, a leopard gecko, an aquarium, bettas and rats.
There are samples of artwork from both of my talented ladies at:
My husband and I have been married almost 27 years, more than a quarter of a century! We were married on the bicentennial (aka July 4, 1976.) He is into electronics and that is the field in which he is employed.
On July 17 & 18, 1998, I had the pleasure of attending my 25 year high school reunion. Wow, it's been almost 5 years already! This year it will be a 30 year reunion, and I may try to go if it comes together. It should be interesting.
Here I am dressed up and ready to go....

"So many women see abortion as an act of desperation, and the 'prochoice' position only tells them to experience their despair in a sterile surrounding instead of a filthy one. Abortion, resulting from injustice, perpetuates injustice. It tells women not to be so uppity as to counter the injustice, but to accomodate it."
