FrankenPony is a full-frame 35 mm stereo camera built by merging two Kodak Pony 135 Model C cameras into one.

I was spurred to build this when a good friend (well-known as a Realist fan) bought an RBT S-1 and began to enthuse over the virtues of shooting full-frame.

Full-frame 35 mm stereo does have its attractions, among them ease of processing, ability to shoot print pairs that any lab can print and a great degree of cropping flexibility whether shooting prints or slides. However, my budget would not support two or three thousand dollars for any camera, so the RBT was out. What to do?

After seeing some of the creative work demonstrated on other people's websites, such as Alan Lewis' Stereo Projects Page and Sam's Stereoscopic Page from Sam Smith I decided to attempt my own Siamesed 35mm stereo camera.

I chose the Kodak Pony 135 Model C for several reasons, including the price (less than $20 each), availability (4 or 5 always available on eBay), simple yet functional design and its Bakelite body, which would be relatively easy to cut with hand tools.

The f/3.5 Kodak Anaston lenses are equivalent to the ones on the Kodak Stereo, and are capable of excellent results. This camera also allows full manual control of shutter speed and f-stop.

Continue to the Construction Page, now with a Pony Model C Parts Manual!
