which lasted only three
weeks (they replaced me with a sixteen year old that was better.) I didn’t
let that stop me I started my own band with some school chums called
"Us" that lasted 6 months. I joined another band at 14 called
"The Forgotten Delta", we never made it out of the garage we had
a good time though, plus I learned a great deal. I got interested in
playing the piano and started getting up at 5A.M to go to the high school
and practice in the lunch room (we had an arrangement with the custodian)
till class started. I managed to fake my way through 4 years of accordion
without learning how to read a note; I learned to play by ear. Many of my
fellow students had heard me play over the years so they asked me to play
in the senior mixer. I did and have been playing since. In 1973, I joined
a jazz band and played with them for five years and in all that time we
never came up with a name but we did win a battle of the bands contest in
1977. Picked up my first synthesizer in 78 and started to learn how to
read music. Formed a group called "Crazy Horse" in 80 played
around town with them till 83. Auditioned with John Grant in 1984 to make
the "Back in America" album which sold over 1,000 copies and
started work on a second that didn’t get completed. Being part of the
recording project got me into original material and I started to write. I
joined another band called the "Earthmen’ in 86 doing mostly
originals, but I’ve always wanted to be able to play both of my
instruments in the same band. I joined "Fifth Avenue" in 1994
and honed my skills on the drums for another 5 years. I took some drum and
piano classes while earning my science degree. April and I played together
in the band "Nasty Habits" for a year, that’s how I met these
guys and the rest is history
