Author James S. Wright

The first question you probably asked when you picked this book is "Why the title American Apartheid?" Contrary to popular belief, books, as well as people, are judged by their first impressions or covers. A perfect example of this theory is the fact that you are about to read this book. The explanation for the title of the book will be made very clear as you continue to read it.

Let me give just a few facts about the author of this book. I am a forty-nine-year old African-American male. I was born in Dorsey, Maryland, a small rural community just outside of Baltimore. I was reared by my grandparents, who instilled in me a strong moral background, the foundation of which was religion and the church. I was educated in the local public schools. I did attend college, but I did not graduate. I am married and have three daughters and a son. I also have five grandchildren. I now live with my wife in Woodlawn, Maryland, a suburb of Baltimore. I believe in God. I love my family, and I think the United States of America is the best country in the world.

The next question you might ask is "Why did I write a book?" When asked why the man climbed the mountain, his response was because it was there. My answer to why I wrote this book is because it needed to be written. I joined the Marine Corps because I thought I could make a difference for my country. I became a police officer because I thought I could make a difference in my community. I wrote this book because I think it will make a difference in how Americans look at the topic of racism.

Yes, this book is about racism in America. I am quite sure you already figured that out when you read the title. The red, white and black colors on the book cover represent the three races of people that make up the history of this country. This book does not contain any unknown facts or discoveries. Most of the information in this book is common knowledge. What this book does contain is a very fresh and very opinionated perspective on the subject of American racial equality.

My purpose in writing this book is to jump-start the stalled vehicles that drove Americans to the battleground where the war for racial equality was fought in this country. For the past 15 years or so, the Civil Rights Movement, which was very aggressive in the 1960's and 1970's, has slowed to a crawl. The fight for racial equality is far from over. Hopefully, this book will inspire a rebirth of the Civil Rights Movement.

The opinions in this book are supported by my Constitutional rights under the First Amendment, which guarantees freedom of speech and freedom of press. What makes this book unique is that my opinions are very close to, and may even be, the actual facts. This book also presents a different account of American history. My opinions of U.S. history may not be the same as the lessons you learned in grade school, but they will be just as interesting.

This is not a textbook. The historical events described in this book did actually happened. My account of what may or may not have happened before and after these recorded events in history is my opinion. If you are looking for accurate dates and times when these historical events actually occurred, I suggest you check some reference books in your local library. There will be no footnotes that give the reference material used to make some of the statements you read. This is not a term paper or a thesis. This book is a wakeup call for those of us who have gone to sleep on the problem of racism in America.

I hope you will enjoy reading my book as much as I have enjoyed writing it.
