The Jews in Ethiopia are trapped there, waiting for the time where they will be accepted into Israel. They are the members of the Feles Mura community, who are descendents of Jews converted to Christianity under huge pressure. The Feles Mura are not viewed as Jews by the Israeli government, and until the time that they are, they are unable to move there. The compound in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia is run by the North American Conference of Ethiopian Jewry, or NACOEJ. They have been supporting this compound for over 20 years. Previous to the NACOEJ involvement, there were no jobs available to the 18,000 Jews there. Now, they embroider stunning pillowcases, matzah covers, and tallit bags, which they sell all over the world. It take approximately one month per person to make a single incredible work. | ![]() A Purim Story-16"x14.5" |
