"And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, so that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life." For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so he who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life. - Jn. 3:14-16

A Family Perspective: The Law of Christianity in today’s Gospel is the Law of Gravity in reverse. “No one goes up… except the one who has gone down.  Today Jesus teaches us to lay “down our self interests so we, and those we love, might have life more abundantly. Self-interests can be obstacles to our happiness and the happiness of others.

On behalf of the entire student body of St. Gabriel School, the eighth grade would like to say “hello” and we’re off to a great start for the 2008-2009 school year. This year, we have new classes and activities offered; for example, a “Math Lab” and Drama Club.

With the new year, many changes also occurred. The entire Middle School is all on one level, which will bring us closer together. In November, we will start preparing for our entrance exams for high school. Being the “pioneers” that we are, we are going to be paired up with Kindergarten for Mass and various activities; this concept is new this year. We will also begin working on our yearbook, including the entire school.

We have the great opportunity to become technologically advanced with the partnership program from Boston University and the University of Richmond. This will challenge us to do research papers that include professional quality bar graphs, timelines, pie charts, etc.

In addition to the spiritual guidance and solid education we are receiving from SGS, we are receiving the self-confidence to succeed in high school and beyond.
