The Pirates drafted Reddinger for his defensive skills, which are very good. He didn't hit much in college and didn't become a regular until his senior year. He signed shortly after the draft and split catching duties at Williamsport with Milver Reyes, until Neil Walker and Steve Lerud were promoted late in the season. He hit about the way his college numbers indicated he would, although he at least drew a walk now and then. Where he ends up in 2005 will probably depend on what the team decides to do with Walker and Lerud. If they're both at Hickory, he could end up back at Williamsport. Otherwise, he may back up for one of the class A teams.
