The Braves drafted Rios as a HS senior in 2003 in the 35th round and as a JC freshman
in 2004 in the 44th round. He moved up some this year. His power picked up a lot
from his first year and he walked a lot more, but he hit for a much lower average.
He continued to show very good plate discipline. He signed shortly after the draft
and could end up at either Williamsport or Bradenton.

The MLB Scouting Bureau report describes Otero as a prototypical middle IF with a

DiNatale is a good prospect who's regarded as having solid all-around tools. He
played CF in HS and has slightly above average speed, but the Pirates announced
him as a LF. He won a wood-bat HR contest, but BA states that his power may be a
little short for an OF corner. He's committed to the University of Central Florida.
The Pirates may have a difficult time signing him or persuading him to attend JC.

Mesa is the son of Pirates' closer Jose Mesa. He worked out at PNC in August 2004
in front of Dave Littlefield, Lloyd McClendon and other front office officials. The
Pirates wanted to sign him then, but he'd enrolled at a JC, making him eligible for
the draft. As a native of the Dominican Republic, he would not have been otherwise.
He didn't stay in school and the Pirates went ahead and drafted him. This is almost
certainly a favor to the team's closerthe GM, manager and the rest of the front
office don't normally watch amateur free agent tryouts. If young Mesa had talent,
some team would have signed him out of the Dominican long before now. He signed
shortly after the draft and will likely start off at Bradenton.

Wanamaker throws a 90-mph fastball, curve and change, and fanned about two batters
an inning in HS. He's expected to attend Boston College. The Pirates may want to
follow him, especially since he's from a northern state where he won't have gotten
as much experience as prep players from warmer climates. They'll have to persuade
him to go to a JC in that case. They weren't able to do so with another pitcher
they drafted from New York in 2004, Pat McAnaney.

Another college senior/probable organizational player. Robertson transferred to
UC Irvine from JC, pitched only one inning as a junior, and didn't pitch that well
as a senior. He signed quickly. College pitchers generally start off at Williamsport,
but the Pirates sometimes will send a late-round selection to Bradenton.

Sebastian was expected to be a top HS pitcher, but had an inconsistent senior year
in which his velocity varied, ranging from 92-94 to 87-88. His slider and change
are considered solid. The problem is thought to stem from erratic mechanics. He
has a commitment to Georgia where he's expected to be a two-way player. He has some
power as a hitter, but is considered a prospect only as a pitcher. The Pirates will
either have to pay him a significant bonus to sign him or persuade him to attend
a JC.

The Pirates may have noticed Povich while they were following his teammate, 2004

probably follow him in his second JC season.

Klindt looks like a power hitter. He's signed with Middle Georgia JC, so he figures

A number of teams lost interest in Bucuren when he tore up his knee playing football
in fall 2004. He's signed a letter of intent with the University of Kentucky. In
an interview with a local paper, he indicated that he would sign with the Pirates or
go to Kentucky. The Pirates most likely view him as a DFE, so they'll have to talk
him into attending a JC.

Riley wasn't listed in the Tennessee JC conference stats for 2005, which means he
