Kingsbury was the only two-time Atlantic 10 Conference player of the year. He hit
380/491/749 in his final year. As a pro he's struggled to hit consistently. He
significantly increased his walk rate in 2003 and showed good power at times, but
his hitting mostly came in a few brief spurts. He went long periods in which he
didn't hit at all. Back at Hickory in 2004, he hit better overall, especially for
power. He decreased his K rate a good bit, but still hit for a low average as he
remained prone to long slumps. He missed part of the season in order to play for
Greece in the Olympics. Kingsbury runs well and is a good athlete, but the Pirates
apparently regard him strictly as a corner OF. He'll be at Lynchburg next year,
although he'll be old for the level at 24. He started the season playing CF, due
to Nyjer Morgan being out after shoulder surgery.
