Meath has been a useful utility OF for the Pirates, filling in at whatever level needed somebody. He's mainly a guy with decent speed who just tries to get on base by whatever means possible. Unlike most of the hitters in the lower levels of the system, he draws a lot of walks. His big moment came when Lynchburg had a string of injuries in late 2002 and he joined them for the playoffs. He ended up as the unlikely playoff MVP when he won the title game with a HR. He started off in the backup role again at Lynchburg, but began to get regular playing time, mainly as a DH, due to injuries and the weak hitting of many of the team's players. He started hitting for much more power than he'd shown in the past and continued drawing walks, although he also fanned a lot. He was sent down to Hickory when Bobby Kingsbury left for the Olympics, but he got hurt before he'd played very much. With Altoona short a couple of players at the start of the season, he opened there, but he'll almost certainly move around as openings arise.
