The Pirates signed Crespo to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training. Although his primary position is 2B, he's played practically everywhere, including CF. He runs well, but isn't great defensively. He reached the majors surprisingly quickly for a player drafted out of HS, as he started his pro career in full-season ball. He never hit well in the minors, although he has a little power. He drew a lot of walks for most of his career, but he started drawing fewer in 2003-04, maybe because he was trying to hit for more power. His hitting during his stay with Boston in 2004 was abysmal. He didn't make Pirates, but he could get called up during the season if there's a need.
