Asprilla seems to have graduated to organizational UT guy at an unusually early stage of his career. It probably didn't help that he turned out to be a year older than the Pirates thought. After being Williamsport's regular SS in 2001, he served as the UT IF for Hickory in 2002, as well as filling in at two other levels. He started 2003 in the same role at Lynchburg, but got sidetracked by injuries. In 2004 he finally got a break, as the Pirates' void at 3B left him as the only viable choice to start for Lynchburg. He played well, hitting for average with decent power and very good, sometimes spectacular, defense. He was considered the best defensive 3B in the league. Asprilla earlier in his career ran very well, but he seems to have slowed down as he's filled out. His terrible plate discipline and his age rule him out as a prospect. He seemed like a good candidate to serve as a UT player at Altoona, but he was on the inactive list to start the 2005 season. He could surface somewhere eventually.
