Cho didn't get drafted after a strong junior season, possibly due to his size. He served as a fill-in for the Mariners for a year and a half. The Pirates signed him after Seattle cut him loose from their short-season affiliate, perhaps because they had no space after signing some of their draftees. He started of as a SS, but the Pirates assigned him to Hickory and will probably use him at 3B. Given the lack of prospects at Hickory and Lynchburg this year, they're going to have an increasing need for guys like this, unless and until their 2005 draftees move up.
