Goal / Mission Statement

M

The GOAL of the Woodward Township Police Department is to provide professional police services to the citizens of Woodward Township. This is accomplished by placing a strong emphasis on interaction between the Police Department and the Community.

M

The MISSION of the Police Department is to reduce crime and its effects, provide efficient services and safeguard the general welfare of the Citizens of Woodward Township.

M

Each member of our department has received specialized training in various aspects of policing. Below are just a few of the specialized services that our department provides to make our community safer.

M

Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program

M

Due to an increase of commercial vehicle traffic through the township as a result of the recently discovered Marcellus Shale formation in the area each officer of the Woodward Township Police Department has received specialized training relating to various laws pertaining to commercial vehicles. The officers routinely enforce violations to commercial vehicles for operating with unsafe conditions.

M

One officer is certified as an “M.C.S.A.P.” commercial vehicle inspector and can conduct in-depth, specialized inspections including examining log books and braking systems. He has the authority to place unsafe commercial vehicles and commercial drivers “out of service” until the unsafe conditions are corrected, including for being overweight. Each inspection is logged and reported to a national database which enables other commercial vehicle inspectors across the nation to view the safety record of commercial vehicle carriers.

 Drug Task Force

M

The Woodward Township Police participate with the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Drug Task Force. The Task Force has statewide jurisdiction for the pursuit of drug traffickers which destroy our communities. Members of our department have participated in local & state investigations which have led to the seizure of Marijuana, Heroin, Cocaine, Methamphetamine, various other dangerous drugs and the seizure of assets and money. Each officer has received specialized training in drug identification and field testing of suspected narcotics.

 Pennsylvania “Buckle Up PA” Program

M

The Woodward Township Police are also involved with the “Buckle Up PA” program. The project is funded through PennDOT and is dedicated to raising the seat belt usage level in Pennsylvania through increased enforcement, public awareness and education. During the “Click It or Ticket” mobilizations officers conduct safety checkpoints and roadside checks to enforce and promote seatbelt use. This year the “Buckle Up PA” program was please to announce a decrease in traffic fatalities in 2011 due to seatbelt usage.
