About the Wyman School!

Diversity, Scholarship, and Creativity...

We are fortunate to have 200 wonderful students at Wyman Elementary School. Our students begin instruction in kindergarten and continue on at Wyman to fifth grade. Each student brings special talents, background, and interests to make the Wyman an outstanding school. We enjoy learning from each other.

Our student population is made up of a diverse combination of children representing many backgrounds and cultures. The majority of our families are of Irish or Italian descent with smaller numbers representing other Asian and  European countries.  It is the purpose of Wyman Elementary School to help all students learn in a caring, motivating environment with a commitment to excellence through school/parent/community partnerships.

Classroom teachers promote learning through their support of an inclusion model utilizing on-going assessment, individualized lesson plans, modified materials and class arrangements, grade level collaboration and teaming, and continuous parent communication. The support staff (counselor, diagnostician, speech therapist, special education personnel, reading teacher, custodial staff, community volunteers, physical therapist, occupational therapist, nurse, and office staff) work together to create a positive environment that ensures every student the opportunity to experience success.

Our school is working through the School Council to develop a school improvement plan - with  major goals in the areas of curriculum, technology, and parent involvement.

We will implement strategies to increase the success of Wyman students on the MCAS and other standardized tests. Writing will be a priority, especially in the content areas where our students need practice, but our new math curriculum will also be carefully implemented and used to help students learn the fundamentals of mathematical concepts.

Our emphasis in technology for the 2001-2002 school year will be on learning applications of our latest equipment and developing a scope and sequence chart for each grade level. Our goal is for teachers to develop skills in incorporating technology as an integral part of their teaching lessons. We also hope to become better users of the internet and the world wide web to supplement the knowledge base of our students.

We will make sure that the entire Wyman community is informed and involved in school activities and enlist their support in all of our efforts through parent nights, communication, and participation and involvement.

In addition we will continue our efforts to help students develop social skills to appropriately interact with adults and peers.
