CATEGORIES
Books: Almost anything you’d consider a book and not a short story, but for simplicity’s sake,              more than 50,000 words, it’s a book.

Stories: In short… short stories… not books. Less than 50,000 words. Use your best judgment or               we’ll use ours.

Poetry: Does this really need a definition? If so, try dictionary.com.

Songs: Yeah, this could almost be put into poetry, but the distinction is nice.

Miscellaneous: This category is for just about anything else. If you’re not sure you’re submitting a                            book, story, poetry or song then consider it miscellaneous. This may include                            jokes, anecdotes, etc.

Guidelines for submitting
1. All submissions should be your original work. Meaning: Your wrote it. Plagiarism is not only     underhanded, it’s very illegal*. If you didn’t write it, please be sure to gain permission from the     author first. If not, things could get ugly… and we don’t like ugly.
2. A synopsis would be nice. You know, it’s that quick summarization you read on the back of a     novel. It lets people know what your story/book is about so make it a good one so people will     want to read it.
3. Rate your work – all categories – like the movies and include it in your submission e-mail:
G - general readers, safe for children and people of all ages.
PG - okay, so parental guidance is a sketchy definition for this type of thing, but if there’s              anything
R - If there’s any explicit content in your submission (descriptive sex of any kind, explicit           language, drug use, extreme violence, etc.) please make sure to use this category. If your           work falls into this category, please list the reason why (example: contains explicit sex,           contains drug use, contains extreme violence)
X - The strikethrough means "No". Short and simple, this isn’t a place for “pornographic”           material. Try writing to Penthouse.
4. Choose a genre for your stories and books. If you're not sure, maybe we can figure it out from
    your synopsis.
5. This space is reserved for future rules as they’re dreamt up. Remember, this site is a continuous     work in progress. (Changes to existing guidelines will be made in red).

How to make a submission:

1. We can currently only work with:
    .RTF (Rich Text Format),
    .DOC (Microsoft Word Document), or
.PDF (Portable Document File created using a program such as Acrobat)
Please be sure your submission is one of the three. Text files tend to lose the nice spaces and     formatting we work into our writing. Stories more than ten 5,000 words should be split and     submitted into multiple files. This means for every 5,000 words you should create a new file.     Okay, if its only 6,000 we’ll make an exception, but not for 6,001.
2. Multiple file submissions of a single piece or of work need to be numbered. We’re not going to     be responsible for making sure things are in the right order if they’re not numbered, so be sure to     number your work.
3. Books more than 50,000 words should be submitted as single file PDF’s and be expected to be     made available only as single file PDF’s. (If you don’t know how or don’t have the ability to     create a PDF, send a copy of your Word document and we’ll take care of the rest.) Also, if     you’re submitting a sequel to a book, please specify it in your e-mail, that way we can keep     interested people informed and not confused.
4. When you e-mail your submission, make sure to include your name and a current e-mail address     in the body of the e-mail. If you’d rather your work remain anonymous that’s fine, but send the     information to us just in case someone decides they’d like to contact you. If you request your     information not be made public, please specify it in your e-mail. BUT, you never know if     someone in the publishing industry peruses through and finds your work… you’ll want them to     know who you are!
5. Okay, you’re ready to make a submission? Send it here: Submissions. You’ll be notified when     your work is submitted to the site so be sure to check it out to make sure nothing went all weird     with the file transfer and the uploading. If something looks out of sorts, contact us and we’ll get it     fixed as soon as we can.
6. If at any time you decide you’d like your work removed from this site, please contact us and     we’ll try to remove the content as quickly as possible. But remember, we have lives, so it may     not happen right away.
7. Once again, this space is reserved for future submission guidelines. (Changes to existing     guidelines will be made in red).

*Now for the icky legal crap:
The ‘of pen & ink’ web site is for original works of writing only and assumes absolutely no     responsibility for anything submitted without express permission of the original author or     owner of the material. If you can substantiate that anything on this site is not an original     work of the person listed, please contact us and we’ll work things out peacefully.
