...Microsoft Office Alternatives.

OpenOffice.org - This is the website for the OpenOffice freeware office suite. It is a completely free open source alternative to Microsoft Office, and it is the best I have ever seen. It has great replacements for Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, FrontPage, and more, as well as several other features. These replacements can open/save Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files. It is available for Windows, Mac, Linux, and more. It's a large download, (50+MB) but is well worth it, and is a lot better than spending $300+ on MS Office if you don't need all the extra features of MS Office (OpenOffice can do nearly everything MS Office can). These are the downloads for the English version. Be sure to check out their website for more information and other downloads, such as versions for different languages and/or operating systems, along with several other mirrors, if you should have trouble with these.

Windows version 1.1 will run on 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP/2003, however, it is no longer supported on Windows 95. It'll still function properly, but if you want support from OpenOffice.Org, you'll need to use version 1.0.3.1. If you are using Windows 95 and support is not a problem for you, then go for 1.1.

For other languages and platforms, check here: http://download.openoffice.org/2.1.0/

AbiWord - This is a freeware word processor, similar to Microsoft Word, and it can edit/view/save Word (doc) and RTF files, as well as several other formats. It has many great features, and it is free open source. There are versions for Windows, Mac, Linux, and more. Be sure to check out the homepage for more info and downloads, including downloads for Linux/Unix operating systems.

For various Linux and other system downloads, check the official download page.

602Pro PC Suite - This is a smaller alternative to MS Office, with replacements for Word, Excel, and Photo Editor. It doesn't have as many features as OpenOffice, and it is only available for Windows, but the freeware version is still pretty good. You can also buy an add-on to add some more features to it. As I said, I prefer OpenOffice, but if all you need is Word and/or Excel, this is a much smaller download. It can also open/save Word and Excel files. Be sure to check out their website for more information.
