...2004 updates.

12/25/04 - Wee. Merry Christmas, and stuffs. Hope you all enjoy it.

12/23/04 - Updated the Internet Tools page with downloads for Opera 7.54u1 (security fix upgrade) and the recently released Opera 8 beta, in case anyone wants to check it out. Also added the links for Winamp 5.08 to the Windows 95/98/ME page (just released yesterday, heh). Oh and by the way, code exploiting a couple new Windows flaws has been released just in time for the holidays. =D Wonderful. More info here.

12/22/04 - Wow. Haven't updated in a while. Anyway, I added or updated links for Winamp 5.07 to the Windows 95/98/ME page, for Mozilla 1.7.5, Mozilla Thunderbird 0.9 and 1.0, Nvu 0.5 and 0.6, the FileZilla FTP transfer and server programs to the Internet Tools page, for Old-PC.tk to the DOS/Windows 3.1 pages, and for ComPro Software to the Misc. Computer page (thought I'd already put that one there a while ago).

12/02/04 - For those of you who didn't know, a prototype of the new Netscape web browser, based on Mozilla Firefox was released a couple days ago. (details) I've been playing with it for a little while now, and wrote somewhat of a review (with screenshots) of it in the forums. Click here to read it.

11/18/04 -
I decided to change the operating system on the server for the main website's backup mirror (http://freaked.sytes.net) from Windows 2000 Pro SP4 to Windows NT Server 4.0. I'm definitely pleased with the switch, because Windows NT 4.0 flies on that system, much better than any other Windows version I've used or tested on it previously (95, 98, 2000, XP, 2003). The systems page has been updated to reflect this.

11/16/04 - Removed one link from the forums part of the random crap section and added another new one (OldOS forums).

11/12/04 - I changed the server software for the main website's backup mirror (http://freaked.sytes.net). I was previously using the Xitami web server... (continued)

11/09/04 - Mozilla.org has finally released the offical Firefox 1.0 today, so the download links has been added to the Internet Tools page (link in Misc. Comp. and Win 95/98/ME sections). The link from Mozilla.org is extremely slow if it works at all though, because the Mozilla servers are gettings swamped. The second link seems to work fairly well, but I figured I might as well add it to my own server as well for a little while. Check the forums for the mirror links (no need to register).

11/06/04 - Most probably already know this by now, but the official trailer for Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith was released yesterday. There's a topic in the forums if you want to see it for yourself or discuss it.

10/12/04 - Even though I'm not really doing much with it anymore, I've updated a few little things on the homepage for the Calmira iWarp WebRing, mostly things like names, website addresses, and broken images. I also added the nav code for the Calmira iWarp WebRing to this site (below), which I forgot to do during the last redesign.

09/20/04 - Added downloads for Mozilla 1.7.3, Firefox 1.0PR, and Thunderbird 0.8 to the Internet Tools section. Also updated the systems section (different PC2, among other small changes) and the desktops section (wee, cars).

09/15/04 - There's a new potentially dangerous flaw that's been found in Windows XP, 2003, Internet Explorer, Office, and several other Microsoft products. I'd recommend you check out the details here.

09/02/04 - Added downloads for the new WinAMP 5.05 (for Win9x/ME/2000/XP/2003) and Windows Media Player 10 (for Windows XP) to the Windows 95/98/ME section. (heh, that makes a lot of sense, doesn't it?)

09/01/04 - Added the download link for Nvu 0.41 to the Internet Tools page.

08/28/04 - Been messing around with getting some of my older systems running again, so the systems section has been updated with a few changes to PC3, and the addition of PCs 4, 5, and 6.

08/27/04 - Added a link to Trev's guide on how to run Windows ME well to the Win95/98/ME section (should've done that sooner). Definitely a good resource if you run Windows ME.

08/21/04 - Much to my surprise, Netscape has recently seen a new release, version 7.2. This is based off of the Mozilla 1.7.2 internet suite, containing the same features from Mozilla, along with some extras, and of course, the Netscape branding. Pretty nice to see, considering that the last release (7.1, based on Mozilla 1.4) came over a year ago, and it was uncertain if Netscape would get another release. Check the Internet tools page (in either the Win 95/98/ME or misc computer sections) to find the updated download links.

Also forgot to mention that when I redesigned the website, I also updated the links for the Office Alternatives section, so it now contains download links for the newest version of OpenOffice. (for Windows, Mac, and Linux)

08/13/04 - Just added a pretty nice new feature to the forums. They now have an Arcade, where users (guests can play as well currently) can play classic games such as Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, Asteroids, and several others, right on the forums in your browser, without needing to download anything. (as long as you have Flash) All you have to do is click the link in the "gaming" category to launch the game list. Woo hoo!  :D

Another nice thing about this setup is that, besides the games already there, I can add just about any flash game I want to this list. Meaning if I come across decent games somewhere, I can easily add them to the arcade.

Have fun!

08/11/04 - New design! New layout! New organization! New color scheme! No useless images! Yay!! *flails eagerly*

...yeah. Everything has been completely redesigned and reorganized. Instead of downloads and links being thrown about in a random disorganized mess, everything is now organized into fully alphabetized sections, which should make it much easier to find things. Also, the new color scheme should be easier to read than those lousy bright red links and things. (and it's all gray and stuff! I like gray! whee!)

In the process of the redesign I've also gone through and removed/fixed broken links, and updates a few other things as well. If you find anything that isn't working correctly, please let me know.

The color scheme of things on the freaked forums has also been updated to match (mostly). I left some of the darker backgrounds in the forums to make things easier to read.

Anyway, I'm interested in your opinions on things. Click here to vote in a poll about the website's new design. If you don't want to register to vote, you can still just post your opinion as a guest.

08/09/04 - I almost forgot to mention that, due to a network reconfiguration, I've moved my server (web and email) to my secondary computer (PC2 on the systems page) running Windows XP (which made sense, since it's now the system with the cable modem). I've also updated the systems page with a few little things.

08/08/04 - Bleh. One of the things I dislike about this site is how it's kind of a random unorganized mess. I never know when I'll be able to do things for sure, but I'm hoping to make some attempt at doing something about that soon.

Anyway, I've updated the Internet Tools page with download links for Opera 7.54, Mozilla 1.7.2, Firefox 0.9.3, Thunderbird 0.7.3 and 0.6, and Nvu 0.3 and 0.2.

Hopefully I'll be able to get to more (and figure out what I want to do) with the site soon.

And if you've got some time, stop by the forums! They started to show a little spurt of life for a little bit recently... And I've just added a full set of new custom emotes.

07/18/04 - I'm planning to start having the larger updates posted in the forums instead of here, to try to keep it less cluttered.

Much to my disappointment, there will be no more updates to the "Weekly Computer News" section of the website. Dan Gookin has decided to remove the section of the newsletter from where those updates came from, in favor of his new tech news site, http://www.techtrip.com. I'll leave the current updates there for a little while, but I'll eventually just remove that section. You can still get plenty of news from the CNET links to the right, however, which are always updates.

Also, on this subject, Dan Gookin has recently unoffically relaunched the Wambooli Forums, this time using new forum software (instead of writing his own). The official launch won't be until August, but you're welcome to drop by now.

In unrelated news, I'm considering the possibility of some changes to this site. Whether or not those changes mean a new look or moving away from it completely, I haven't figured out yet. ...read more.

07/15/04 - BLAH. News updates are extremely late, but are finally here. If you've checked the forums, you already know why, but for those who haven't, the explanation on the lateness is here.

07/06/04 - Interested in checking out Windows XP's Service Pack 2, or just interested in more info about it? If so, I'd recommend reading this. Villain, from the Agetec forums, has written a review of the current release of SP2, with details about some of the features, and how it worked on his system. Definitely an interesting read, even if you're not thinking about trying the current release. It's pretty image heavy though, so keep that in mind if you're on dial-up.

07/05/04 - News updates! Dan Gookin is back from vacation, so the weekly news updates will resume.

06/15/04 - News is a day late because the newsletter came late yesterday. Also, Dan Gookin will be going on vacation, so there will be no news updates for the next two weeks.

06/07/04 - Updated the Office Alternatives page with the download links for OpenOffice 1.1.1, and updated the Internet Tools page with the download links for Opera 7.51.

05/31/04 - I picked up a new secondary computer to replace my old one, so the systems section has been updated with the info.

05/28/04 - The OldFiles Network is now located at the new address, http://oldfiles.shorturl.com, so the button below and the link of the forums has been updated. The address for the Powerload Resoruce Pages has changed as well, so the Misc. Computer Related section has also been updated.

05/25/04 - I found myself messing around with some video clips recently and wound up making a music video of Linkin Park's "Breaking the Habit" with clips of Zero's video scenes in MegaMan X4. This is the first time I've ever done anything like this, and I was just messing around for the heck of it, so it's nothing spectacular, but I figured I might as well post it here. Check the random crap section for the download.

05/24/04 - Added a page to the NT 3.51 section on how to use 32-bit AOL Instant Messenger with Windows NT 3.51 (by John K.), and updated the systems section due to a couple OS changes. I'll probably be adding a few new desktop screenshots soon as well. Also, since the news items on the right don't have descriptions anymore, I've increased the number of items to 20.

On an unrelated side note, I finally got around to picking up Linkin Park's "Meteora" CD today. Me likes. Should've gotten this thing a year ago.

05/18/04 - The weekly news is a day late because the newsletter arrived late yesterday, when I was in the middle of swicthing some hard drives around. Speaking of which, the systems page has been updated to reflect those changes to all three systems.

05/08/04 - Updated the WinWorld link in the Misc Computer section and updated the systems section (got rid of XP, added 2003, and made a couple hardware changes)

05/03/04 - This week's news was particularly short (2 items), so I also added the short "One Last Byte" section of the newsletter as a third item.

04/24/04 - Sorry, I completely forgot to mention that there were no new updates since the newsletter was only a Q&A issue this week. Also, I've updated the systems page. (DVD burner, w00t!)

04/17/04 - We've officially moved to a new free forum service, so I'd like to encourage you come check out the new and improved freaked forums! This move should benefit everyone, since the new service is faster, has many more features, and is completely ad-free. I'm also welcoming your suggestions and opinions for the forums, so be sure to come check it out!

Also, a side note, I've been slowly moving away from using the name "PC Freak", since I've never really liked it. I use the name "ZeroSky" at most of the places I go to now, so I've decided to start using it here as well. I'll still definitely be keeping the "freaked" site name, but I'll be posting under the new name at the forums, as well as using it in my email address.

04/12/04 - I'm currently considering the idea of switching to Forumer.com's message board services instead of ProBoards, which I currently use. I'd encourage you to check out this topic for the details, and to give your opinion. Don't forget that while guests can't vote in the poll, you can still post an opinion in the topic.

04/01/04 - Updated the Internet Tools page (in the Win9x & Misc sections) with downloads for Mozilla Firefox, Firebird, and Thunderbird, MSIE 6.0 SP1, and MSIE 5.5 SP2.

03/31/04 - I hate Web1000. I thought it was good for a while, but it's gotten increasingly unreliable lately, especially when I'm trying to upload things. So, while the site's primary server will still be the free space from my ISP (since it's a little faster), I am now running my own secondary server here. The backup server's address will be http://freaked.sytes.net, but it would be best to continue using http://freaked.2ya.com. That is the address that you can be sure will always send you to a working server, should one have any problems. As result, the systems page has been updated with "PC3", the old system I'm using as the server.

Also, since I have my own server, I'm also hosting my own email address, so the contect button has been updated for the new address, pcfreak@freaked.sytes.net.

03/30/04 - The "Weekly Wambooli Salad" newsletter was shorter this week, so there won't be an update for the Weekly Computer News section.

03/27/04 - Added links to VGMix, CompuForum, Computing.Net, and Beatdrop's website to the random crap section.

By the way, anyone a fan of the old NES games? If so, then this might interest you...

03/22/04 - Interesting update in the Weekly News this week. With Windows XP SP2, Microsoft is going to decide for us that we need to install updates on our system. Oh joy.

03/19/04 - A couple minor updates to the systems page. (added a hard drive and Windows 95C to PC2)

03/18/04 - Umm... yeah. I finally updated the Weekly Computer News. No real excuse, other than I'm a slacker and completely forgot.¬_¬

03/11/04 - A couple small updates to the systems page (now running Win ME instead of Win 98) and the desktops page (new screenshots for 2000 and ME).

03/09/04 - Added a link for the Mobius Forums (one of the forums I frequent most often) to the random crap page, and also added a SigX image to that same page, so anyone bored enough can see a few details about my system and what I'm listening to on WinAMP. Also added a link for SuperGreenX's website to that page and made a minor update to the systems page due to a RAM upgrade. (w00t!)

03/01/04 - Yet another wallpaper change. Found a better image of Voyager for my XP desktop.

02/22/04 - Updated the Windows 2000 and XP desktop pics. Again. Yes, I've been incredibly finicky with my desktops lately. Besides yet another wallpaper change, I just ran across sets of icons and such that go with the theme I was already using in XP, so I figured I'd update the pics.

02/18/04 - Updated the Windows 2000 desktop pics. (new theme)

02/17/04 - A couple more changes today. First, I changed the news setup on the right so it now has the ten most recent headlines from CNET News, with descriptions, instead of five. Also, I decided to decrease the size of the text on the home page, since things were starting to look a little crowded.

02/17/04 - Decided to make a change to the setup here. I find I'm not really using the dual update text sides very much, and it actually just gets more confusing than useful. So, I've condensed them into one single section, and instead turned the side on the right into a CNET Tech news feed. Just think, it might actually be useful to make this site your hompage now, since you'd be seeing constantly updated tech news!

...yeah. ¬_¬; Anyway, I'll still definitely be having the weekly news from Dan Gookin's newsletter too, since he often has an interesting take on things.

Also decided to decrease the text size, since things were looking a little crowded...

02/16/04 - Wow, an actual real update, instead of some little screenshots! ;) I've added the downloads for the Windows 98 VXD install fix and the Windows 98 Customer Service Pack (see the Win95/98 section or the forums for more details), added download for Windows Media Player 7.0 and instructions for installing WMP 7.1 in Win95 to the Win95/98 section, added link for WinAMP.com in the Win9x and Misc. sections, added a download for the rare NT 3.51 NewShell version 2, made a minor update in the systems section, and updated the Windows 98 and 2000 desktop screenshots. (yes, again. switched the wallpapers between the two. I'm picky. :p)

02/15/04 - Newsletter was early this week, so the Weekly News is a day early this time. (as opposed to a day late like I do sometimes :p)

02/11/04 - Wow. The forums are dead. Really dead. Problem is, not much is happening there, so no one posts. And because no one posts, not much happens. (catch-22, anyone?) And I'm not particularly good at making things happen. So anyway, if you get a chance, check out the forums if you can. If a few people post, it might get a few more to post, and who knows, maybe we might be able to get a small community going. Thanks...

02/10/04 - Hiya. No, I haven't forgotten about the site. Still with the same old busy excuse. Anyway, I've updated a few details on the systems page, updated the Windows 98SE and XP desktop screens, and added the desktop screenshot for Windows 2000 Pro. (woo! *kicks XP*) And the news is a day late. >_<

01/27/04 - An update! I can't believe it! *passes out*

Yeah, been really busy lately, and haven't had much time for the site. Anyway, download links for Opera 7.23 and Mozilla 1.6 are up in the Internet Tools sections.

By the way, if you haven't updated your anti-virus definitions lately, be sure to do so. That new "MyDoom" (a.k.a. "Novarg") virus is spreading pretty wildly. (I know someone who's gotten over a dozen copies in less than two days)

01/05/04 - Ran across an article about a laptop that literally exploded... Check the forums for details and screenshots...

01/04/04 - Updated the desktops section. How exciting. Also added a link to OverClocked Remix in my random crap section.
