...2006
updates.
12/30/06 - Added download links for Open Office 2.1.0 to the 95-XP>Office Tool Downloads>MS Office Alternatives section, Mozilla Seamonkey 1.0.7, Firefox 2.0.0.1 and 1.5.0.9, and Thunderbird 1.5.0.9 to the Win95-XP>32-bit internet tools section. Forgot about those last night. 12/29/06 - Hiya. Hope everyone had a good Christmas and stuff. Mine was pretty good, got to spend Christmas with the sister of my brother's fiancee and their family, which was pretty cool. Also got both Pirates of the Caribbean DVDs, which I've been wanting for a while. Yay. In other unrelated but equally pointless news, I've just recent acquired the GameCube version of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, and it's about 17 kinds of awesome. Extremely glad to have located the Cube version too, as I want nothing to do with the Wii's control scheme. Haven't played it a lot yet, but so far it's excellent, everything I wished Wind Waker would've been and more. (I'm not much of a Wind Waker fan) And it plays great with the GC controller. So yeah. Awesome stuff. Anyway, not much for an actual update. I've updated the desktop screenshots again (with Zelda:TP wallpaper, surprise surprise) and I've added Winamp 5.32 to the Win 95-XP>multimedia downloads section. Haven't gotten around to trying that one myself yet, been too lazy. 12/25/06 - Merry Christmas and stuffs! 12/18/06 - Added download links for Opera 9.10 to the Win95-XP>32-bit internet tools section. 12/16/06 - I really hate power outages. Up until a few hours ago, the power had been out where around here for the last 42 hours, thanks to a nasty windstorm. That's just loads of fun. ...except, not. at all. It's not good for a computer nerd to be deprived of electricity for this long... much longer and they probably would've found me curled up in the corner shivering uncontrollably and muttering incoherently to myself. The only things I had to keep me from snapping were my laptop and a portable CD player hooked up to an old pair of PC speakers I stumbled across in a box. It's slightly tolerable during the day when it's light out, since you can at least see what you're doing (despite what little there is to do). But when it's dark. and there's nothing to do... although weak, the phrase, "bored out of one's skull" comes to mind. It was nice to have the short amount of time with the laptop to help hold off the full on computer withdrawl symptoms, but that doesn't last long. Enough time to play a few little games the first night and do a couple things with dial-up internet the second night, and not much more. Fortunately it's back now though. Electricity is awesome. *hugs a computer* So yeah. That's all. No real update, just felt like rambling and complaining a bit. Heh. 11/29/06 - Updated the desktop screenshots and some details in the systems page (like the addition of the system I acquired last month, now listed as PC3). Nothing major. Oh, apparently it snowed around here recently. Yay. 11/22/06 - I just recently read that apparently Paul McGillion's character, "Dr. Carson Beckett", is being written out of Stargate Atlantis in season 3. crap, he's one of the best characters in the show. Next thing you know they'll get rid of McKay... (ha, fortunately for me the writers couldn't be that crazy) I seem to have horrible luck with these things, almost any time I decide I like a TV show, actor, musician, etc., something like this happens. blarg. On a completely unrelated note, for any fans of the Halo books, if you haven't gotten Ghosts of Onyx yet, get it. NOW. It's awesome. And that's about it. No real updates, just rambling for a second. Happy Thanksgiving tomorrow for those of you in the US. 11/08/06 - Updated download links for Mozilla Firefox & Thunderbird 1.5.0.8, and Seamonkey 1.0.6 in the 32-bit internet tools section. 11/01/06 - Added download for Windows Media Player 11 for XP to the Win 95-XP>multimedia downloads section. 10/26/06 - Hi. Although you wouldn't know it by viewing this site lately, yes, I'm still alive. I've just been pretty busy lately. I didn't do anything at all online for about two months starting late in July, and although I've been online a decent amount since then, I haven't really had time to do anything with the site. For those couple months I wasn't really in the mood to do anything online, but I'm out of that now. Since then I've just been pretty busy with things, including getting some personal stuff taken care of. Most notably finally getting a driver's license. To make a long story short, I've been without one far longer than I ever would've preferred, due in part to events out of my control as far as not having the option to even practice for it. Due to family issues and time constraints, there was a pretty long period where it just wasn't able to happen. But fortunately that's all irrelevant now that I have the license. Yay. Quite a relief too, since at my age it was getting embarrassingly pathetic not having the darn thing. So yeah, things like that in addition to stuff I already do regularly (like running the sound system at my church) have kept me busy lately. And when I have had free time I haven't felt much like messing with the site. Now that the license thing is out of the way, I'm looking into getting a normal job, so that'll probably take up some time as well. But I hope to be able to mess with the site at least a little more regularly now. So, as for the actual update itself. Nothing major happening with this update either actually, but I figured I'd at least update/fix a few things and let my 3-5 regular viewers know what's up. (har har har) First off, I've finally gotten around to fixing the CNET new feed on the right side there, which has been dead for quite a while now. I've also got the backup server (http://freaked.sytes.net) up and running again, which has also been dead for quite a while. As for the rest, best to divide this into categories. 32-bit internet tools, 95-XP section: Added or updated download links for Internet Explorer 7, Mozilla Seamonkey 1.0.5, Firefox 2.0 & 1.5.0.7, Thunderbird 1.5.0.7, Netscape 8.1.2, and Opera 9.02. Multimedia downloads, 95-XP section: Added download links for Winamp 5.3. Office Tool downloads, 95-XP section: Added/updated download links for the 2003 versions of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word viewers, all 2003. MS Office Alternatives, Office Tool Downloads, 95-XP section: Added download links for OpenOffice 2.0.4 for Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X (Intel and PPC versions). Other Utility downloads, 95-XP section: Added download links for Microsoft Virtual PC 2004 and the Royale theme for Windows XP and 2003. I didn't realize it until recently, but Virtual PC is now completely free! Nice, as it's an excellent program. Wasn't quite sure where I wanted to put it, so I just stuck it here for now. Desktops section: Updated with the current desktops for my main system and laptop. Yay Dodge Viper GTS wallpaper. Random crap section: Updated the old SuperGreenX.com link to point to the newer SGXmusic.com. Have I mentioned how awesome SGX's music is? Cause it is. Awesome, that is. Go check it out. And I guess that's everything. Can't guarantee a lot, but I hope to keep an eye on the site a little more often now. And I still definitely frequent the forums regularly. Things have actually been picking up there a bit lately, so if you have the chance drop by some time! Whether you're looking for tech support or just general discussion, it's a pretty nice place to hang out. 07/14/06 - Took longer to confim than I intended to, but it looks like the hit counter was the cause of the pop-ups. I certainly won't be using them again, and I'd recommend to anyone else using Webstats4u (formerly NedStat) to try something else if you don't want pop-up ads on your site. As for this site, I may add another counter again sometime, but it's not a big deal at the moment. Also, the backup server for this site is down currently, and probably will be indefinitely due to some network changes. I intend to have it back eventually though. 06/25/06 - Well, looks like the pop-ups are still present (which is good in one way I guess, because I was hoping it wasn't the news feed). So the news feed is back, and the hit counter has been removed as the next test. 06/23/06 - Wow, been a while since I've made any updates... Probably due in part to my recent acqusition of an Xbox 360, which I am pretty thrilled with. But anyway, I've added download links for the new Opera 9.0, Mozilla Seamonkey 1.0.2, Firefox 1.5.0.4, and Thunderbird 1.5.0.4 to the 32-bit internet tools page, along with Winamp 5.24 to the Windows 95-XP>multimedia downloads section. I've also added a link in the NT 3.51 section to Martin's guide to running Seamonkey and Firefox in Windows NT 3.51, which should be useful to any NT 3.51 users wanting a more modern browser. I've also made one other temporary change. I've realized recently that visiting my site causes pop-up ads to appear. That's the last thing I want happening, but I'm not totally sure what's causing it. I'm guessing it may be related to either the CNET news feed on the right or the hit counter at the bottom. So I'm temporarily removing the CNET news feed for a while to see if that has any affect. 05/02/06 - Added download links for Mozilla Firefox 1.5.0.3, Thunderbird 1.5.0.2 and 1.0.8, and Mozilla 1.7.13. Also, the backup mirror is down currently due to some network changes and the acquisition of a new router. Didn't have time to get it up right away, but it should be back by tonight or tomorrow. 04/19/06 - Added download links for Mozilla Firefox 1.08, 1.5.0.2 and SeaMonkey 1.0.1 to the 32-bit internet tools page. 04/06/06 - Added download link for Opera 8.54 to the 32-bit internet tools page. 03/27/06 - Updated screenshots in the desktops section. Yay cleanliness. 03/22/06 - Added a link for Doctor DOS Betamax's website, "The DOS Operating System" to the DOS section. Best new DOS site I've seen in a long time, definitely worth checking out. 03/16/06 - Should've gotten this up a long time ago, just added a link to Bear Windows in the NT 3.51 section. Among other things, the creator of that site is working on a universal VESA video driver for Windows NT 3.51. Definitely worth checking out. 03/08/06 - Added download link for Opera 8.53 to the 32-bit internet tools page. 02/26/06 - Added download links and info for Mozilla Seamonkey 1.0 to the 32-bit internet tools page, download links for Winamp 5.2 to the Windows 95-XP>multimedia downloads section, and added a link for the MS PowerPoint Viewer 2003 to the Office Tool downloads section (again, don't know why I never thought of that before). Also update the systems page with the details for my new recently acquired laptop. (yay!) 02/24/06 - Added download link for Firefox 1.5.0.1 to the 32-bit internet tools page. 02/20/06 - Added download link for Opera 8.52 to the 32-bit internet tools page. 02/05/06 - Wooooooo! No head explodey! Feel a little bad for Seattle, especially since they'll be back to getting no respect whatsoever in the NFL, but that was awesome. I can't possibly think of a better way for Bettis to be able to end his career. Also quite nice that I've now earned gloating rights, whereas I was most definitely going to be hearing about it all year if the Steelers had lost (all because I had been seen wearing a Steelers shirt once). I'll probably still get it for being a traitor to the Seahawks, but meh. If it comes down to the Seahawks and Steelers again next year, I'd root for the Seahawks for sure. I just wanted the Steelers to get it this year. Now I just hope the Seahawks can build on this year and come back even stronger next year... *does a happy freakin Steelers dance* As for the website, just a few minor changes to the systems page (PC3 is set up for use now). 02/03/06 - Added download links for Winamp 5.13, which fixes a major security flaw. In unrelated news, two days until my head explodes. Heh. I've decided to definitely root for the Steelers, but I expect my head will still explode. And while I wouldn't be too disappointed if the Seahawks win, I'll probably never hear the end of it from various people if the Steelers lose to them. >_< 01/21/06 - Final playoff games tomorrow. Yikes. I'm a big Steelers fan, so I'm definitely rooting for them, but I'm also a pretty big Seahawks fan, in part because they're my home team. I think if they both make it to the Super Bowl my head is going to explode. I'd really like the Steelers to win, but the Seahawks have never even been to the Super Bowl before, to say nothing of actually winning one. With the year they've had, it'd just be wrong for them not to make it. (not to mention that it might finally get the team a little respect in the NFL) But at the same time, it's sounding like there's a decent chance of Jerome Bettis of the Steelers retiring after this year, and with the kind of career he's had, it'd be wrong for him to never get a Super Bowl ring. ARGH. Head. Explode. Of course, my luck, it'll end up being a Broncos/Panthers Super Bowl. Heh. Anyway, as for the actual site here, just minor updates, added Thunderbird 1.5 (finally) to the 32-bit internet tools page, and updated for systems page for changes to PC1 and 2 (DVD burner, RAM, etc). 01/01/06 - Happy new year and stuffs! That'll take a while to remember to type 06 now... Anyway, I've updated the systems page to reflect several changes, such as the removal of Windows 2000 from my main system (heh), and the addition of an older system I picked up recently (now listed as PC2). |
